great, any chance of some of your ' action shots' ( like the one crossing that big ditch in the desert) also some photos of the rear layout for travelling etc, maybe in the 'my vehicle' section, I think last time I saw a pic of it, I thought, ''it ain't no prom queen, but it sure does scream ''adventure''. Be good to see it again.

whatever happened to the old lime green ex mil 110 , 2.5 n/a ?

back on topic, how about a baby wood burner, plenty of fuel available, pipe coming out the roof , or removeable pipe thro the side. there are some really small ones about.

with the number of Defenders being stolen increasing, it may have looked a bit 'odd' at that time of the morning, to an observant plod. Full marks for checking I say, most wouldn't bother.

no, but what I have often thought about, is making a steel frame, to replace the sides, then have the choice of removeable side panels(zues clips?), and / or remiveable/ roll up canvas sides, whilst still retaining the hard roof and rack. Cross between a hard top and a perentie.

as said, can't quite make out the noise. I had a similar noise, some time after swapping my vacuum pump, really harsh tapping, this is on a 300 tdi mind, and I tracked it down to something silly. The air filter canister sits in a cradle, that sits on a shelf. This shelf has 2 upper bolts and a diagonal brace to a lower bolt. This diagonal brace is removed to assist changing the pump, to give better access. Anyway the lower bolt had fallen out, allowing the brace to vibrate against the block, and resonate loudly through the air intake system on acceleration, sounded like an old ford transit. So check the lower bolt. As I say, mine is a 300 , so 200 may be a bit different.

I have a short piece of roofing batten, 1" x 1 1/2", prob 4" long, with a V cut in one end, and then pull the cable, and slip on the "dolly peg". Works a treat, cost Nowt

yes, by all means, please do continue. Its always interesting reading about other peoples tinkerings. 'A man who has never made a mistake, has never made anything'.. Interesting, that you say....I still had 70 out of her down the A50 but the revs were higher than they should have been , .. well how can that be?? it is impossible to rev higher than it should , for a given speed, unless the gearing is wrong, or the clutch is slipping.......impossible. Am I wrong?
Are you ever so slightly tempted to swap the turbo back, just to make a comparison now its running right?
-
Sooooo, the point is, if the truck wasn't quite right, before you swapped turbos, due to FIP timings, it will be very hard to be subjective about the new turbo's benefits, oui?

What are the rufftyest tufftyest innertubes in 750x16 flavour, and where is best place /price to get them from. Was thinking Michelin, but my Google Fu ain't working tonight. Dunlop? Ta!

not the hand brake binding is it? this usually causes knocking on overun/slowing down, slacken right off then try it. Surely if you only lifted one wheel then spun it, whilst in gear it 'should' lock?

Ah but the enduroline 069 std LR battery has 85ah and 680 cca, so how is the cvx better? and the Bosch mention above has 830 cca????????

this one? says 585cca? I'm confused
-
ah thats only got 80A and 585 cca
-
Its cold, its frosty, the battery is prob 4- 5 yo std jobby. and its a slow turn over, always starts tho. Its a 110 300tdi HT No frills no winch, no entertainment,. Whats a good battery nowdays, thinking BIG, 1000cca 110 AH type thing. A while back folks were raving about the Numax marine one, are they still available, / good, or is there a new puppy in the litter tray. Obviously needs to fit straight inn, no alterations to cables battery box etc, and pref under £100. Not going to stump up for an odyssey or optima. I'm sure technology has moved on a bit in the last 5 years. many thanks.

I have used them on many occassions, and never had a problem, guess I'm lucky..
-
I'm probably due to change mine soon as well, Was thinking of smearing the underside, twixt tank and cradle , with thick grease, that should prevent rust, would it not?
-
does it have to be 12 seater, IIRC there are certain ISSUES with 12 seaters,ie insurance, towing (tacho?), foreign travel, and entry into London (classed as a minibus) , But I may be wrong.

£12,000 for a 1996 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have a good look at your air induction hoses, could have disintegrated inside, and a piece is flapping about blocking air intake. ( turbo to inlet manifold). It's fairly common.
-
previous owner may have swapped turbo in a bid to stop smoke, maybe thinking the seals had gone. Failed to cure it, so sold it! any water loss, if it smoked that bad, I doubt there would be any water left in it. Therefore as others have said, timing.

what engine type? Mine went very noisy on the 300tdi, so needed replacing. I too red horror stories of the Wabco units, so shock horror.... I went for a BRITPART... Guess what......no really........ that was 5 years ago, and still going strong. Still can't quite believe it.

Diesel fuel waxing / gelling

Down here in N. Kent, its bitterely cold, and I struggled back home today. Wallace (300tdi) was a bit sluggish going in at 9.30 am, but the wind picked up a lot, and on way home I had fuel starvation issues, Had to limp home, 2nd gear up some hills. Got home and added some 2 stroke oil, and about 1 ltr of petrol, (almost full tank of Dino) That sorted it, once it had mixed and filtered thro.' Must have been the wind chill cooling off the Sainsbury's fuel a bit too much
