Hi Folks,
Defender 1997 - CSW - 300Tdi
Thought I'd test out the rear wash before refitting the headlining. Looks like it is not working.
The motor pump seems to be running. However, it looks like the pipework from the bottle to the rear washer is not taking fluid.
Couple of questions that would help. The following link may help frame them:
http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=760653&SPRACHE=EN
1. Noticed that the non-return valve located in the roof space has a moulded arrow pointer back to the washer bottle. Is this the correct direction and has this valve been fitted in the correct orientation.
2. Thought I'd take the pipe off the non return value and see whether washer fluid can be pumped out of the pipe. However, the pipe seems to be pretty well stuck fast. Is there some specific technique to remove them or do I need to get a bit more brutal.
Thanks for any help,
Simon...

Thanks for taking the effort to post that commentary and image.

Hi Folks,
Currently in the process of sorting out the head liners on my Defender 110 CSW 300 Tdi 1997.
The attached image shows a connector which was not attached to any device, just simply tucked behind the very front of the right hand side of the front head liner section.
Wondering what this is? It looks like it is part of the standard loom as it is all wrapped up with the interior light, door trigger and alarm sensor cables.

Hi Folks,
Thanks for the replies.
Have managed to order part ALR4769 which matches the holes to my original plate exactly.
For reference, the holes are 18mm (ALR4769) from the outside edge as opposed to 23mm (AFP710120)
Simon...
P.S. Shout out for the folk at YRM who were extremely helpful, to the point of even looking out fully detailed metal template schematics.

Hi Folks,
Looking at replacing the load bed mat retainer on the back of my 1997 Defender 110 CSW 300Tdi
Order part number AFP710120. However, when comparing the screw holes to my original part, they are off by 5mm from the raised edge. The spacing , though, is the same. Please see attached picture.
Perhaps ought to have order part number ALR4769.
Have folk come across this before and can anybody give me any confidence that if returned and swapped to part ALR4769 all will be aligned and good.
Many Thanks,
Simon Pelly...

Hi Folks,
Anybody know of any breakers yards that would be good for sourcing Defender dash trims, side trims, etc... near Bristol.
Thanks,
Simon...

Thanks for getting back.
Looks like the handles on my Defender are indeed screwed directly into the roof gutter metal, even though the VIN is much later, it's 1997 model.
Will leave it as such when putting it all back together and keep it as original as possible.

Hi Folks,
In the process of sorting out the roof trim on my Defender 110 CSW.
The following link shows roof trim diagram with a spacer part PAM4356L
http://www.landroverworkshop.com/diagrams/interior-trim/trim/roof-trim_53611
Did not see this part when removing the head lining. Any thoughts on how this spacer is to be used.
Believe it *may* be related to the grab handles?
Thanks,

Hi Folks,
In the process of changing the lock barrel on the rear door lock of my Defender 110 SW. Planning on replacing the lock seal on the refit as the original has become quite thin and tacky.
The replacement door seal ordered (genuine OEM part - MXC9455) does not appear to be the correct size. The attached image shows that the holes for the retaining bolts do not match between lock body and seal. It can be stretched somewhat to fit. However, seems odd to have to do this.
Thoughts?

Hi Folks,
Apologies if this sounds like a "numpty" question.
Need to disconnect and subsequently reconnect some wires plugged into a bullet connect on my Defender 300Tdi. Is it simply a matter of pulling them out. Keen to understand this first before doing damage to the connectors by manhandling them.
Thanks for any help,

Hi Folks,
Update. Took my Defender to DBL in Nailsea. Chose them as it was recommended, all they do is Land Rovers and an easy bike ride back to Bristol - threw my road bike in the back.
Took it for a full service which was done well. Few other niggles identified and fixed. All in all, would happily recommend them in the future and will be back when next service is due.

Thanks. At some point will have to take some of the dash off for other reasons. Will spend a bit more effort then to see if the label remains on attached/readable on the barrel.

Hi Folks,
Led to believe that the ignition keys have specific codes which may be used to cut spare copies.
Does anyone know if they key code is stamped/labelled on the lock barrel once it has been removed?

Thanks folks. Mainly interested in sealing up the holes on the underside to stop road splash/dirt ingress. Will take a look at POR15.
Will look for the breather pipe when back at home later - keen not to have fumes accumulating. Seem to recall a hole/pipe from the battery to the second row of seats. New image attached. Is this the breather pipe or is this located elsewhere?

Hi Folks,
Noticed a bundle of holes drilled into the bottom on the battery box/compartment. Looks like there has also been some attempt at putting a reinforcing bar across the bottom too.
The box appears strong enough so thinking that the reinforcing bar is not really needed. Suspect that there was plenty more kit in this box at some point.
Thinking of sealing the drilled holes with rubber grommets. Any other suggestions?
Also, the compartment is pretty untidy with unused cables, poor clipping, terminals exposed, etc... Will deal with that. Any thoughts on how best to treat the floor of the box. It's looking a little rusty.

Thanks. Had misread the label and not internalised that this was for the EGR. Will take a closer look at the alarm system - not convinced any of the immboliser, etc... are working. Good thought on auxiliary power feed.

Hi Folks,
Just picked up newly acquired Defender 110 CSW 300 Tdi 1997 vintage. In a happy place at the moment.
Creating a list of jobs/oddities and generally trying to get familiar with it.
Noticed under the front middle seat a bundle of electric wiring which do not understand.
Also, under the front middle seat there is a ECU unit which has me confused too. Why would this be present on this vintage of Defender?
Please see images attached.
Could folk help me get to grips with this.
Thanks,
Simon...

Hi Folks,
Getting excited now. Picking up my 1997 Defender 300Tdi 110 CSW tomorrow.
Will be bringing it down to Bristol.
Wondering if folk can recommend a good garage that can do servicing on it. A garage that knows how to treat these classic vehicles and give them the correct loving - if you take my meaning.

Went with NFU in the end - local branch in Bristol. Good service and cheapest quote.

Hi Folks,
Just bought a 1997 Defender 110 12 seater 300Tdi CSW. Hopefully picking it up this Friday.
Before then need to sort out insurance.
Can do the usual compare-the-whatever.com, however, could folk recommend any particular insurance company and/or set expectations on how much should be paying for this.
Not planning on using it for "extreme" off road either.
Thanks,
Simon...

Rear wash not delivering water
in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Posted
Yep. Looks like it is indeed the wrong way round and has been fitted incorrectly since original manufacture.
Used a heat gun with a 2 second blast, pipes pulled off with ease. Thanks for the top tip.
With the value disconnected, water was pumped from the reservoir.
However, when fitting the value back in the correct orientation, not water can flow.
Suspect given that it has been fitted incorrectly from day one, the value is bust.
Have ordered a replacement value.
Hopefully will then be all good.
Thanks again for the help.
