  1. Dont you like breathing dust!!

I would take a second open face helmet too with goggles for the slower stuff, a full face helmet will restrict your vision, the co driver will be sweating buckets too!

Truck looks cool, those wheels are a bit Bling, are they to blind the competition as you drive past

The wheels are gorgeous. Luckily some alloy wheel refinishers just moved in next door!

My helmet has a pretty wide port so will just have to manage with it.

PS I am the co-driver and I sweat like a fat lass on a Saturday night in Newcastle

  2. Truck looks awsome! spoke with tim (via mail) when the truck wasn't finished that far, really impressed by the finishing...

    congrats and succes in Morocco!

    Hendrick

Thanks. Moved the airbox and filter into the cab today. Put the wide drum Gigglepinned 8274 in. Now mounting up all the computers and stuff.

Went a few laps round the block on the industrial estate. Interesting drive!

  3. It's not on a LR axle but the idea might be useful. Front mounted double ended ram, acts as track rod and is legal (as approved last week by the SVA man :P ). We have a 4 bolt Saginaw box (Jeeps and Rolls Royce) tapped.

The real key is the pump. We are pushing out 8.5 gallons per minute at high pressure (3000 psi working, 9000 psi burst hoses). About 3 turns lock to lock and 35 to 40 degrees of lock.

As I said not a Land Rover but don't see why the ideas could not be applied.

  4. "even bigger bonus what kind of things does the sponsorship allow you to enter?"

    Thers only one Laurie Sternbeck.............

    Laurie Sternbeck is the one..................

I never said I could drive!

    Tim

PS and I can blame Lawrie if it breaks

  5. Well done Tim, be nice to see it finally out working :)

more congrats on getting sponsorship - Im more impressed with that than getting the SVA ticket! :)

Also sponsored by Arkema, third biggest chemical company in the world.

Who also make some great plastic!!!

  6. Tim, you must be a very happy man. I've got this 'fun' to look forward to. Out of interest, how did you find it regarding the 2.8? I'd assumed it might make things a little awkward as the engine was never fitted to a vehicle sold in the EU and is only Euro III complient.

    Congrats again! B)

    Will

    Thanks.

The engine will sail through (not sure about your welding though!!)

They test the emissions and we scored 0.87 brand new and cold. Fail would be over 3.0. As an amateur build you don't need a cat.

Have to say the whole experience was really good. Go with the right attitude and something well built and they seem to be extremely helpful. Our brakes are so new they wouldn't lock on a drive by test but they were understanding of this. It was funny hearing them talk about the "muppets" and "weekend warriors" that turn up with some real rubbish having never read the manual.

  7. What tests did they do for sharp edges?

My understanding is the 2.5mm rad on anything they can touch with the test sphere but in the case of a 4x4 type vehicle they could crawl around underneath finding sharp edges on all manner of engine and tranny machinings.

    Steve

Thats why it is built with tube!

Seriously, the way the interior is laid out the entire dash / box bit with guages lies outside the area to be tested, it is low relative to the seat base. Having said which it is all pretty compliant inside.

They only test things that a pedestrians leg could make contact with, essentially 70 degrees to about knee height.

Underneath has no interest for them in this sense.

  8. That looks really good. Well done on the pass.

Were there any issues about the lighting? I can't remember the measurments but the head lights and front indicators look quite far from the edges of the vehicle and quite high up.

The height is not an issue in the regs. The distance in for the lights is 400mm (I think) from the outside edge of the vehicle. Crucially this excludes cycle mudguards so it is only measured to edge of the cab in our case.

I am only just getting over the shock of passing!

  9. did you have wheel arches on it for the SVA as i had to when i took a buggie in a few years ago just wondering

    mike

Legal tyres and cycle wings. The VOSA guys were really cool and we were talking openly about removing various bits for competition.

  10. Well, took the buggy for its SVA this morning.

    Here's a picture.

    And guess what happened?????

    IT PASSED FIRST TIME!

    Hehehehe.

And then to make the day even better the new wheels arrived

And to let everyone know what is inside them

Big thanks to our sponsors at Staun.

  11. A commercial is easier to test becasuse not all the items are tested. There still is a problem with modified vehicles though, this is the guy who had the problems mentioned http://www.stumpy.me.uk/

Had a long chat with really helpful people at VOSA about what makes a vehicle commercial and you have to have a certain ratio of load carrying to people carrying space. I was wondering about getting my buggy through as a pickup / commercial!
