  1. this has got to be the fidliest job i have ever done. nearly finished it and on of the connector rods fell of and wedged itself in the lock so took it all apart and after 4 hours of cleaning and putting it all back i finally finished no wonder the garage did not want to do the job glad its over Big John
  2. got the new barrel and bar part and a secondhand cover so will use the best bits from both 2moro. here goes nothing.
  3. went to the dealer today - cant beleive the prices - £136.00 for the plastic out handle cover. £18 for ther bit i want. have ordered cover from scrap yard - will use best of both. no more kebabs this month will have to cut back. Big John
  4. When opening the driver's door the interior light does not come on. I thought it was the switch - got a new one - When I removed the old one only to find that the wire - mauve or purple had been cut just after the spade terminal. I looked under the bonnet and removed the panel under the steering wheel - could not find an obvious end of wire. Any ideas whether I could run a wire.
  5. I would like to thank Les for posting this item and form its inclusion in the Tech Archive. The squealing coming from unit could no longer be drowned out by the loudness of the radio - tried to buy bits from local stockist - no joy there. They wanted to sell the off the shelf unit £60ish. Read Les's article and sourced the bearing from the web - came next day - Simply Bearings Ltd charged me £6 incl p+p - top bunch. Followed the article and even the grinding out to remove clip proved spot on. Such a good article - saved me £50 ish. Thanks to Les and Simply Bearings Ltd - silence has been restored.
  6. I don’t believe my luck - I bought a spout for a Gerry can - put it on the can - Put the spout in the tank filler - it started to leak - Went to pull it out and the end of the spout fell off and sank to the bottom of the tank. It’s roughly two inches long - not sure what it’s made of. see picture So do I go magnet fishing in the tank for it or do I leave it?
  7. i stripped it down today and it appears thet the pin that locates a bar in the barrel has gone - ended up stripping it all down - have spoken to local delaer and he will sort out what i need - the handle is corroded and so is the u bracket that holds thew barrel. there is a crack in the plastic outer door pod. sounds like this is going to be expensive. i was planning to replace the door card with a panel with Chequer Plate - so the less i have to put back the better.
  8. is that the bit that had a star washer on?
  9. it was a new lock i fitted - the central locking does work - when the key is in the barrel there is no resitance when turning the key - this the same with central locking on or off. suppose the strip down is on the cards - oh B!"£!ks.
  10. I recently changed the lock mechanism and solenoid on the back door. Everything was working ok for a few weeksm central locking - child locks etc. I have noticed that now the key no longer locks or unlocks the back door and yet it did. Any ideas before I strip the whole thing down again.

  14. cheers Thys. we were unable to see if the fuel filter was full - i have to supose that it was. do you knowm if it does self bleed? Big John
  15. When changing fuel filter yesterday I found that the manual lever on the fuel pump seemed to move without the feeling of any pressure. It was a bit weird - pumped like mad no fuel - loosened out nut still no fuel. Started engine - ran well - revved up ok - loosened out nut started to run lumpy - tightened out nut - revved up ok. Engine runs perfect - revs and drives ok. Do I need to replace fuel pump, as manual pump seems not to work? Did is self-bleed?
