  1. Red ...Thank you...should have red it more carefully...Yes and thank you for the info on bolts...Might just as well get new ones..
  2. This is fairly confusing....info on 300 tdi head.... One workshop manual says discard bolts and give a total different torque sequence.. The other states that bolts can be used up to 5 times ? with a total different sequence (This is the one I am used to ...from middle outwards..!) Can bolts be reused...and correct sequence please !
  3. Hi Hangover Sorry, My third world technology failed and we have been out of internet coverage. It is a Garret GT 22 56 VNT and yes the actuator is working on pressure... I have had it sent to SA and they fitted a new CHAR( Old one totally F......ed and spool vaines chipped) and actuator as the old one was leaking. Thought they would set it but needed to adjust the rod length and stop screw to get my Disco alive. Still a bit hot as EGT quickly rises with black smoke puff when vaines opens completely on 1800 RPM. Boost 1,4 Bar. Will damage head gasket ?
  4. I have fitted my Disco with this VTDi turbo with bit more extra boost and could easily boost up to 1.2 bar. I still get the boost but a serious whine changing pitch as the boost drops and rises. Black smoke and not really the power it used to have although the boost is still on 1 bar where I have set it. EGT also quickly rises above 720 when pushing hard uphill. Could it be the dump valve ????
  5. R/R Blues....Yes..The Double Cardan really makes a huge difference...I had the castor correction bushes fitted but In South Africa very difficult to find. Eventually I V cut the raduis arms and reweld to have the same effect as the correction bushes and fitted normal Terrafirma bushes. I also changed to UJ after the third Rotoflex coupler Shredded that bad that I actually lost my propshaft at 80 kmh downhill.(I thought the Landy struck a landmine) and yes surely that " clunck" was never heard with the coupler.
  6. Surely not a saving,,,I chucked mine very early in my TDi 1 Land Rover ownership...Fitted proper UJ's
  7. Totally excepted, but very nice to have.....!
  8. Thanks Mo, Yup.... and an empty wallet but I love my Landy...!! In South Africa the Currency is Rand ....Change the L and R in Land Rover and you get ...Rand Lover...!!
  9. Hi Boydi and Red.. Thank you for the reply's Boydi yes, It is a preference thing and trial and error is the best way to do... I worked on splines and counted ........ 16 x 22.5 = 360ᵒ I notched mine at 2 (45ᵒ) splines out of phase with the T/Case universal leading and had a heavy load drive without vibration but a seious whine from 40 kph to 110 kph + on the pull. Red, I have read the mentioned post, wrote my thread, and read the post again and eventaually got the hang of it... Thank you... ( Sorry for late Feedback but had a wonderfull weekend fishing ) One lesson learned, I will never lift a vehicle again...Go for bigger tires and rims, do the camel cut yes, but a body lift is a waste and nothing to gain... just a lot off other geometrical problems. The Diff clearance stays exactly the same...!!!
  10. Need some help with Phasing I had a double cardan fitted after lifting the disco 2''. It worked well and no vibrations experienced. The universals got worn and serious vibrations on torque, and I have sent it to the nearest Propshaft centre (400 km away) and these guys decided to remove the Cardan and fit a wide angle yoke, Somewhere the message was lost....!!!! With the cost and distance, my hands were cut and needed to except this "FU". I am a week away from my anual holidays and plan a fishing trip wich involves beach driving launching the jet ski.The road also demands heavy 4 x 4. Phasing or out phasing will help for this trip... I see 22.5 degrees is the norm but very vague on what direction, meaning plus or minus from drive side. Do I advance 22.5 deg or reverse. (1 spline or 2 splines)????
  11. It will surely flip over with a resulting very loud knock against the coil springs... Mine is doing exactly that... The front... I have made extensions to lower the sway bar to allow axle travel downwards ... Lot of other things to consider when lifting 4''....!!!
  12. Yes Thank you, agreed MT just looks bigger and mean, The AT last longer on gravel and sandy roads and my Disco is almost daily use..
  13. Yes, Was a problem until I did a complete front bumper mod- (And to make space for the winch)
  14. Well That is what they say on the tyre... Except if the Chinese got their sizing wrong. Might look small on the vehicle due to a 1 inch body lift on top of the 2 inch suspension lift. I still think I shouldn't have done the body lift (Just created a lot of geometrical problems for myself and took a lot of money to fix)
  15. Definately welded and reinforced. I am driving on serious bad roads and when go fishing very deep axle twisters on sand roads and the tyres never rubbed even on full load. Maybe the heavy duty coils assisted ? I have also lowered the sway bar to allow axle travel more and ensure propshaft do not touch the sway bar. Shortened the rear trailing arms as well to get better angle on propshaft (Terrafirma heavy duty rear p/shaft )
  16. Honitonhobbit , Yes thank you, chucked that away the first time I changed the gearbox. As said, it is amazing, I got hold of a Master and slave Clutch kit (Rubbers) ($ 3.50 US) and walla old faithful is running again.
  17. Hi beorn I lifted my 300 TDI 2 " and fitted the same Tyres withoit them rubbing against the body. The only problem, it was touching the Radius arms and I needed to adjust my turning circle by adjusting the steering stoppers. I have fitted Terrafirma Big bore+2 shocks and Heavy duty coils. Needed to fit D2 Double Cardan front propshaft and point my front diff flange 3 deg more towards the transfer case. (without that experienced huge vibration) I had to V cut the Radius arms and bend it slightly to comply. I am very happy with the result.
  18. Thanks Spendrey.. yes the Job might not be difficult but my direct translation was wrong and I actually meant aftermarket, not genuine, parts. Seen so many Guys battling with aftermarket and not genuine Landy parts... I am in that awkward position that to get genuine Landrover parts I must deal with a terrifying exchange rate and import duties up to almost 100% of the value. Brittpart is fairly available...although will also take two to 3 days for delivery if lucky... Genuine parts is minimum 6 weeks...!!!
  19. SPendrey, Yes thank you, totally agreed... I really do not know if there is double seals on the plungers but there is no fluid lost by either of the cylinders, meaning that it leaks on the compression seal but into the suction chambers which seems to be whats happening... It does looses pressure...!! but no fluid !!! I have quoted new Master and slave and just to be sure new connection pipe as well.... Will see if the budget allow...to get new ones although I have read some scary stories on replacement Master and Slave cylinders ????
  20. My amazing Disco 1 TDi surprised me with a new one last weekend whilst launching the jet ski on the beach in the surf... Suddenly Clutch down to the floor board. Needed to pick it up by hand and then there is clutch again for the first few seconds and then flat on the floor again. ????? checked no fluid lost or bypass... Got launches in by pumping and using the clutch at the minimum....Got back home and start the reverse bleeding using my Right side brake caliper's bleeding nipple and a piece of tight fit piping on both clutch slave and brake and after allowing all the fluid to drain from the clutch reservoir pumped fluid back through the system with the brake pedal until clutch reservoir full again....... Without any success... still the same symptoms.... Could it be master and slave gone at once ???
  21. Hi Sam Seems you have made your decision, I have installed Terrafirma bushes and very happy !!!!
  22. OK....The disco has done 1000 km after head gasket replacement but not without some incidents..... After the initial 50 km test drive up and down hill I was very pleased and decided to go on a weekend trip 2 weeks ago: Within the first 30 km the heat gauge rises into the red and I was loosing coolant through the expansion tank's cap.... Phoned and got towed back home and decided it is time for a new engine in this Disco... But first I will drive this one till a connecting rod or something jumps through the bonnet !!!!!!! . Was not happy with the viscous fan and drilled it solid.....Put the garden hose into the expansion tank, opened the water and started the disco... removed the return hose at the housing and let it run on 1000 RPM for 2 hours whilst enjoying some cold drinks and watching the Rugby game... Closed every thing up and leveled the coolant and took the Disco for the drive of it's life 1st gear 4500 RPM 2nd 4000 3rd 4000 4th 4000 5th 3700 @ 160 km/h Geared back from 5th to third...Burned it on EGT 800 deg on a uphill for 50 seconds... Boost 1.2 I was really trying to burn this engine...and ???? the heat gauge rises to normal and there it sits Last weekend tried again and had a cool run on a round trip of 800 Km.. The engine ran cool and I could even feel inside the cabin there is no excessive heat... So not yet time for a new engine ....?
  23. Report....Boydie...Never thought to use washers and would surely have been a better solution ! The Disco did well and temp stayed constant with the heat gauge on quarter and EGT never rising above 700 on normal slight up and down hill drive. Have a 2.7 km uphill done on 120 km in 5th gear and about 500 m from top got EGT alarm on 720 Bit sluggish on the pull away because I have redused the Diesel a quarter of a turn and redused the boost to 0.9 Bar There is no Black smoke and might lower the star screw in the android 2 to 4 turns. Let us hope for the best and again thank you for your valuable Input.
  24. Boydie...Thank you once again for excellent Information and usable tips...! I have brushed the pitting well and got the tip from a very good old timer to use women's nail polish and filled...Came out very nice... Got the second dowel and a no hole gasket...Pistons protruding 0.80 and 1 (No 3 at 0.83) Old timer recommended no hole gasket ... Got new bolts and had engineering remove 2 mm ....(prevent from bottoming) Got tip to put high heat silicone in triangles which I did ???? (Grasping straw) Torque 40 Nm and then 60 + 60 and 12 X 140 bolts another 20 deg. And yes...You cant re-torque on degrees...Once torqued it is done !! Reset valves on the rule of 9 and started yesterday, very smooth run... Bleeded the water and made sure there is no air pockets... Today will take it on a few up and down hills ....... The story I have heard is that the block is suitable for petrol with just another head where this ports is open in the head ????? Yes... The boost is not good for this engine and I will bring it down to Max 0.9. Would rather move the android diaframe slightly...? Boydie...Yes I have decided to save up a little bit more and get myself a new sub and head and then close those three holes.... I might be able to Import @ US 1800...!
