http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...icleRegLetter=D
that is what poeple will compare it with because people do not see the extras as valuable as they cost you, i know yours is better as it is not a conversion engine and it is cleaner and tidier with the extras but for £1300 that other one is quite cheap, cheers
-
Not selling are you SMO???
Very difficult to value especially with a huge drop in 2nd hand car prices...- the extras will not add anywhere near what they cost as well
I have the same issue with 'valuing' mine (for insurance purposes)- it is worth far more to me than anyone would ever pay...
my guess is between £3000 - £4000 depending on where you sell it, they seem to be going to cheaply to me, the hardest bit is finding a buyer with enough money at the moment, sounds like a nice truck, good luck
-
may be worth checking the brake pipes aswell, have you done a rear cross member before becuase it is a big job and takes along time, not worth chopping up your landy before looking into doing it, if you can weld well it should not be a problem, cheers
-
i took mine to the local land rover garage and they did it for free, but it use them regularly, i have also done it myself on a defender by putting one with correctly adjusted lights next to the other one and put lights on a wall and make then level, hope this helps
-
go for 265/75/r16, my local tyre man does they really cheap, i think they are only £35 - 40 new each, i think they are used alot in the american market so they are mass produced,
-
mine does that aswell, the sync has gone and they will work for years like this, as above you just have go get used to double de clutching, it is also advisable to just be a little more careful with it, we had one before with an Lt77 which we had to do this too and had it for 5 years and it never broke, cheers
-
i never trust the MOT's if they are being sold with 12months but i would never buy without looking, i do know a couple of places that are very picky for MOT's but atleast you know it will be safe and i know a couple that turn a blind eye so depends where you go.

i have some rover seats, you need to look for seats from a coupe that have fairly thing foam babes and maybe modify thier origional runners to bolt on, could look on ebay or at the local scrappy, it will be cheaper and maybe more confortable than defender seats, thanks
-
i have had a look and they look good,
also is there anything that is worth doing to the engine before it is fitted, the speedo ready 30,000 miles but i assume that is 130,000 miles, however it runs sweet and starts easily with no blue or black smoke shown,
is it worth getting it pressure tested etc, thanks
-
that sounds good then, i have a complete daihatsu with the 2.8td engine and have now aquired a conversion kit,
however i am now concerned abotu the insurance, i was planning to use the nfu who are usually good but do you think they will make the price alot higher if i use a non land rover engine?
thanks
-
hello i am thinking of doing a daihatsu conversion on my land rover 110,
it currently has a 2.5 turbo engine
i have the kit required to do the work but is it worth it
has anyone driven this conversion and how is the engine compared to the turbo diesel
once you have the milner kit is there anything else you need
any othe help would be useful, thanks charlie

i would agree, takes lots of fuel filters because the fuel is usally dirty, take a few air filters because they get sandy or a couple to use and a couple to clean, it may be worth getting a black box that clears computer faults but i am not sure how useful it is, spare battery (new) not connected just incase. deffinately plenty of oils, chewing gum to plug up a hole in the radiator works quite well if it is only minor damage, couple of rolls of gaffa tape just incase, may need to boards up a window etc,
hope this helps and some of it may be added to your list, charlie

hi all.
is it possible to mate a R380 onto defender 200Tdi. dispite the R380 6" longer.
can you use the 200tdi bell housing? but then wont the main shaft be longer?
cheers sam
it will not work with the shorter bell housing, you can get r380 short stick gearboxes but they are rare and expensive. you could mount your engine further forward on the chassis i think but that is not a small job. If i were you i would stick with an LT77 or look out for an R380 short bell housing. hope this helps

i advise you to do it on a hot dry day with little wind because the paint takes really nicely when the car is hot and the paint is thinner. i have done a metal horsebox and i came out really nicely hand painted but only on a hot day. I am planning to do something to mine in the summer. good luck
-
that was for the defender. Now for the 1962 series 3
again re seal axle's
replaces uj's on props
fit the hard top again. rewire most of it (been done badly by previous owner)
finish off welding the new outriggers
new wiper motors
had it for a few years. been used for off road around the farm and has slowly degraded. had the roof off for the summer and was a good shooting waggon
needs some care and attention
then MOT, has been sorn for a couple of years due to lack of time. running a nice BMC engine
thanks charlie

front seat belts
cubby box
do all seals on front axle (leaky)
maybe rear engine oil seal (just put the gearobx onto new land rover and it started leaking
) or put up with it for a little whille
rear anto roll bar bushes
Turbo charger guard (2.5 td)
wire in spot light if i get round to it
Finally MOT
-
lots of people convert old series ambulances into campers. Not a bad idea if you have lots of time
-
change the oil seal. i bought a 110 with not gearbox so could not test it properly. seal looked ok so i did not change it. got the gearbox on. put seat box and all the flooring in. got it up to temperature for the first time and it has started leaking. such a pain. well you learn from your own mistakes. cheers
-
i would also say they are quite simmilar. it will also be easier to find 300's with lower mileage. depends on your budget. also with the 300tdi you will get thr R380 gearbox as standard which is stronger and nicer to use in lots of people's views. you can get them for 200's but are rare and expensive. i think western has one though. cheers
-
if you are going to be leaving it alot for 2 weeks just disconnect the battery before you leave it. Does not take long but you will have to cahnge the time on the clock. That is what i do when i know i am leaving mine. thanks
-
i would also go for cutting the hole in the tun. once you lpate it and put a mat or carpet back you won't even notice it. I cut a couple of holes in my series Tub to weld the top of the outriggers. cheers and good luck
-
i think a defender or series is best to start with. mainly because there is less wiring, trim and carpets to get in the way and it is easier to weld and work with. however if you want to make a decent off roader and want a proper project go for a tdi disco or v8 range rover and get chopping.

you can also look at the ratio comparrision on ashcroft. they have a comparision table
Defender Value?

yes i think it should be worth atleast £3000 if you advertise well, internet advertising is not always best because people who look online have other prices they can quickly look up, i find the best way to sell things is put it out the front of the house with a for sale sign on it, seems to generate interest if you live on a busy enough road, i sold a car in 2 days last week after having it out front, just an idea, good luck with selling, and at the last stick it on ebay, land rovers seem cheaper on autotrader than ebay,
