ok i have just found out it is an auto gearbox with the TD5 engine. This would be make a nice finish but i may be lots of work. has any one done an auto conversion for a defender before who has any advice?
i have looked at the link for the TD5 conversion and it looks like i have the equipment to do this.
I will decide what to do this weekend and let you know. Any More advice would be helpful.
If i bought the engine now would it get damaged it by leaving it until the summer before i start the conversion?
thank you

hello i have been offered a TD5 out of a disco with 95,000 miles including all ancilieries and a gearbox for £300. it has covered 90,000 miles.
does anyone know what would need to be done to fit this into my 1985 110. also would it be a good engine when it is done. thanks

this happened to my dad's and it was an early sign for the bearing. took it apart and there was no oil and it was seized and rusted tight. this was a year 2000 td5. may be worth a look if you can't find anything else. try giving the wheel a shake off the ground. cheers

finaly finnished wiring my landy up last night. the lights powered up, the horn works and the wipers work. turned the key and click click nothing. so i jumped it off my car thinking the battery had gone dead but still nothing.
any ideas or help would be good.
if a battery is totally nackered then sometimes even attaching jump leads is not enough. especially when it's cold. i would try and get another battery and just try it. this happened to me last winter and it went fine with a new battery. quick and easy to try. cheers

in my land rover they are fitted next to my head in the roof lining. however i do not use them because i like to hear what the car is doing/ how much it is breaking but this is only because i just got it and do not know the condition of everything yet. i am planning to rebuild the axles soon and maybe change the engine. then i will not have to worry as much.

i was driving my turbo d on a field yesterday when the fan belt came off. i did not notice as the temp guage is not working and lots of water was coming out of the overflow pipe. i creeped home on tick over then turned it off.
what are the chances the head cracked and how can i find out. cheers

So the facts are ??
Was it smoking before you fitted the gearbox ?
Where is it smoking from Ie; Filler cap , exhaust ?
If its from the exhaust and you never had this problem before fitting the box ,you may well of disturbed a fuel pipe connector and it may be drawing air which will cause white smoke and lacking in power no doubt
it was already smoking before the gearbox was fitted. sorry forgot to mention. the fuel has also been in the tank for a year. may this have an effect? cheers
-
hello i have just fitted a gearbox to my 110 and now i am faced with puffing white smoke from the engine. i thoguht it would stop when warmed up. however it still seems to puff when warmed up. any ideas? it is an origional land rover turbo.
thanks
smoking from exaust, was smoking before gearbox was fitted. cheers
The fuel has been in the tank for a year. could this effect it? thank you
It is not constant smoke, just puffing when on tick over and some when reving hard. hope this helps
another point is it failed an MOT on excessive smoke. It then passed with a doccument showing it passing a smoke analysis test. it looks like the injectors have been looked at as there is a new seal around them and around the fuel pump.
could it be from being sat for a year? cheers

if i were you i would try and find some narrow good looking alloys. i have not seen any but all these wide one's skid more easily in rainy conditions. i used to have some but i do not like them as they have a tendancy to skid. i think some of the tubeless presseed stell one's can look good in black. cheers
-
it should have failed an mot i think and if the rest of it is solid it is worth welding. if you can't do it yourself it would be better to get a new outrigger put on because if you patch it will rust through in a year or 2 and it will not cost that much more for a new one. hope this helps

many built, many being broken

i think you cannot interchange 3 and 4 bolt one's as my friend had mansfield 4x4 to put a recon box on and it took an extra couple of days due to wrong bolt box. hope this helps

if there is no sticker that tells you there should be a serial number. i think it is the first 2 sybols and last one that tells you. well after you scrape of the top layer of mud and oil.

There is an R380 gearbox on ebay that will fit a 200tdi engine. know werstern has one of these and they are supposed to be very good. i would buy it for my project but it is too expensive for a £500 land rover that i am only going to use occasinally for the next three years. Let me know what you think.

someone has put a lot ofwork in though to make the die that press the depression/shape. I think it looks good.
i agree it looks good i like it because it is different and you will not see them very often. It is hard to manufacture a bonnet like that so it would be nice to have something different. Too far for me sadly.
-
could this possibly be a santana bonnet. i am not sure if they are the same fit though. that is the only other make with the same type of dimentions (as they coppied land rover).
I am not sure just a sugestion. The bonnet looks quite good though. I am tempted but it is too far away.

if you needed this done in november i would have been able to do it. i am busy till then. sorry hope you sort it out.

Hi, I'm looking for a way to transport my "new" 88 Landy from +/- Norwich to Harwich (docks). Any ideas? Or forum member around with a trailer :-)
Cheers
Marco
actually i have thought of an idea. you can hire a car transporter from a place near harwich (about 30 min drive). it only costs about 150 pounds. i hired one to pick up my 110 td5. just an idea. hope this helps
-
hello is this because you are buying a car and need it to go on the ferry. i live near the port and can see it from my house. i also own a house in norwich as well. however i would be able to help in the winter but i am too busy farming at the moment. sorry about that. i have got an ifor that takes land rovers.
-
you would make more if you break it. i would sell the extra's like the steering guard and checker plate off. then if you have time take out the enigine if it is a 200tdi because if it is in good condish can be sold fout up to £`1000. i would then sell the rest of the car as a project. maybe sell seats separetely if they are good. thanks
