  1. Ok nice one I'll run as is for now then til shaft gives up. Then I'll replace box... question then will be r380 or stick with the lt77?? would changing to r380 be just box and the different housing?
  2. Les , thanks. Normally your the bringer of good news with all your how tos ? when u say it will damage the transfer gear , do you mean the cross drilled input part ? not got the funds for lt77 re con now. not asking you to put a date on it but would it be ok to leave for now. It's only a 2nd car / toy so minimal miles and hardly any off road at the minute. Cheers thanks
  3. More great info.. thanks very much and apologies to the op as I've only just noticed I've actually hijacked this one ?
  4. Anyone help with the mating of the 2 boxes? Does crossdrilled input need to be removed to fit the 2 together? And, is it just the input / output seals on the respective boxes that stop oil from between the 2 ( no gaskets or sealant needed between the 2) thanks
  5. Superb tip thanks very much. Will give it a go tomorrow cheers
  6. Yep, it has.. not fitted yet but one of the next jobs. Along with trying to get gearbox rear oil seal and collar out ?? any tips for that part
  7. Forgot to ask a couple more things, I'm thinking it will be easier to mate tbox and gbox together and refit as one unit, obviously aware about tbox seal damage if fitted separate . Is this best ? also do I have to remove my new tbox cross drilled input to mate them together ? and last ( for now) do I need to pre oil/ grease anything ? thanks to all for input and especially Les for the very well detailed how to write ups on pretty much everything .
  8. Noooooooooo ?? you think it will last a while though? And if I leave, will it bugger my recon tbox ??
  9. Also,, have I caught this in time ? new recon tbox going on with crossdrilled gear. Looks like about 1mm worn
  10. Cheers fellas anyone got that workshop manual picture ?? Gearbox now out and cleaned, might do flywheel housing tomorrow ... hard to tell as it's getting dark but does the starter motor have to come off to get flywheel housing off ?? I'm guessing so thanks
  11. An older thread but can I ask a question as I'm about to start removing gearbox to do rear crank seal, might aswell do flywheel housing while in there . ref Les input about using rtv.. where do I put it ?? The gasket looks large , can't imagine I cover that whole area in sealant? assuming I need a ring around crank seal hole and then edge of housing ??? anyone ? thanks
  12. Cool thanks. The bearing on the shaft itself feels fine ( somehow) the one inside though ??? Is that what all the mashed up carp is that fell out. any ideas for a part number for that ? I'm thinking , new shaft, housing, spacer , speedo drive gear, bearing and seal. All of which I have part numbers for, but what's the inside bit ??? or re con box time ?? thanks
  13. Thanks Western the speedo housing has some fairly bad scoring and the shaft has some aswell, am I correct in thinking the big thing on the shaft is the spacer then, and the bit behind that is the speedo drive ( completely worn smooth) ??? should this be tight fit on the shaft? and in my first picture,,, should there be a bearing in there then, or is it the shaft that holds it all central and in place ? on the thread link for the bearing and seal replacement you shared it says about the " inner bearing" ... is that what I'm missing ? sorry lots of questions thanks
  14. Hi fellas new here and to defenders. I recently changed the rear output seal but today I had to remove the speedo housing.. not good !! I have bits of metal or something inside . Plus it looks like something missing from back of transfer box where the shaft goes through can anyone make anything of this lot see pics thanks in advance
