  1. I would like to do it to gain a more modern dash with climate control etc, the updated seats and centre console and all the extras like traction/abs/ACE that the Disco II chassis can offer. I prefer the look of the Range Rover classic.

    Also, because it'd be interesting :)

  2. Someone has done something similar to this, RRC 2 door body on a Disco 2 floor pan.

    I used to have a link to the complete build thread but the outcome was this;

    http://www.lemitone.net/pics/100608_DDC/?detectflash=false&

    If I find the thread I'll post a link up :)

    He basically took the 2 door shell from the sills up and grafted it around the disco 2 floor pan and interior.

    Odd, as I've been having similar thoughts but with a 4 door.

  3. I'm sure someone will be along to explain better than me but in simple terms;

    lighter flywheel = less low rev torque. This will mean at low RPM the engine is more likely to stall when pulling off or going slowly over obstacles, you will require a greater RPM to pull off.

    It will rev more freely one rolling and it will free up the top-end RPM but is that where you're going to want the power?

  4. They would both work, but, how much?!

    I'm running a normal RRC flywheel on the back of my 4.6 with a standard clutch, no complaints so far. If off-road is your goal then I wouldn't choose a lightened fly-wheel either.

    As for the dowel on the back of the crank, no it's not required and needs to be removed before fitting the flywheel. You also need some flywheel bolts as the auto-box ones are incorrect from my experience.

  5. Mikey, that's the same information we had for camping, however I'm not camping any more as the GF couldn't do the new dates and I don't fancy going it alone.

    I'll be there for the day though.

  6. Really enjoyed watching this, some epic driving :)

    We ended up camping just up the road as we arrived a day early and ended up staying.

    I felt a little sorry for number 11 who after being the last person negotiating checkpoint 30 managed to get a flat on the next section :/

  7. Well, I got my tent out and found it to be less than serviceable, went out and got myself a S/H trailer tent :)

    SeriousIIA - I'll be at showcaves Thursday afternoon/eve, more than happy to share a beer and if the weathers good I'll try and fire a BBQ up! Green Discovery 1 and the nutty springer spaniel.

  8. No worries, appreciate that there is something going on to pick up where billing dropped us :)

    is space going to be an issue on the KOV camp site? got a fairly sizeable tent so just want to make sure it'll fit.

    I might well pitch up at showcaves for a night, cheers for the suggestions.

  9. Arse, that's a little annoying and I'm sure that wasn't on the website middle of last week :/

    Oh well, I'll go down first thing Friday morning, campsite sounds interesting too. I'll dig out my rock-pegs and tarp.

    I have an air-mattress too.

  10. I'm from Derby or Wirksworth, depending on what day it is :D

    That'd be good, I have Thur/Fri off so will head down around lunch on Thur, I really want to get the Series 3 finished for this but I think that's going to be a big ask so I'll either be in the Discovery or the CSK :)

    I'd be up for some greenlanes on the Friday.

  11. We're at a loose end now Billing is moved, KoV certainly looks tempting although I don't know much about the challenge scene anything involving tents/landrovers/beer looks of interest.

    I'd be up for some green-lanes too but it'd be in my Discovery as the Series 3 is currently off the road :(

    So do we just appear as a spectator? I've got Thur/Fri off work so could appear Thursday afternoon?

    I also have no aversion to work if anyone needs a hand on one of the days with marshalling etc then please let me know!
