Gotcha, I know the place, in fact one of my wife's relatives lives near there. I'll take a run down and have a look.
-
Is this place in the town centre?
-
How long did it take you Les?
-
All done in the best possible taste.....

How easy is spraying...?
Spraying is relatively straight forward if you have the gear, it's the prep work that takes the time and to a large extent determines the quality of the finish. If you have the time (and space) to practice beforehand then you should be able to make a presentable job - but don't underestimate what's involved.

The neighbours fence appears to have gone awol, we had no electricity for six hours and several tiles came off the garage roof and missed the 110 by inches. Just another day

Depends what vehicle but I would say at least a grand. Cost can be minimised if you remove trim etc.

Excellent guide Les

There were isues with the early ones and LR issued a tech bulletin regarding oil ingress in the harness. Yours being a '99 I would look at the harness first.
-
Aye, I'll second the harness / dodgy / dirty connector mooted by my Rt Hon friend in the southern hemisphere. What year is the vehicle?
-
Good news then Chris, I heard that sigh of relief from here

Those XS seats are the same as all other 90/110 seats. but will have a different part number due to the different material.
Yup, they are the same as the seats in my XS which are the same shape as the ones in my station wagon ...which were the same shape as the ones in the station wagon I had before ....and the ambulance I sold recently.

A good degreaser or as Les says petrol / paraffin followed by a pressure wash and dry off in a warm atmosphere or airline usually does the trick. I value my marriage enough to know not to use the dishwasher.

Right hand and left hand of a vehicle are ALWAYS as seen from the drivers position. This is the Internationally accepted method of description used by motor and parts manufacturers, as it makes no difference to whether the vehicle is left hand drive or not, or which side of the road it is driven.

Based on the all the Defenders I've owned I think they are all basically similar aren't they (or at least the most recent 5 I've owned. 1xV8, 1x300Tdi, 3xTD5's).
-
OK, out of the last five Defenders I've had I found the 300Tdi heater to be ok, V8 excellent, one TD5 poor - took ages to warm up, one good and the present TD5 excellent.
-
Now that would be ironic!
I don't need to use heated gear on the bike as I have a huge fairing, heated handlebar grips and heated seats (and pillion backrest). I had never through of using it in the truck but it is worth thinking about if the heater cannot be improved. Certainly cheaper than an Eberspacher unit.
Now what would the current draw from 4 heated jackets, 4 pairs of heated long-johns and 4 pairs of heated socks be? Probably quite a bit more than my Alternator is putting out!
Just stick some heated pads in the 'fender seats - sorted

Mine has just gone poop too

Paint to make you happy.

Some good news for a change

If you are feeling fit and fancy a challenge then by all means DIY. Personally these days I'd rather spend a few quid and get them fitted.

Worth the aggro?? Er, well doing everything by the book, paying the ID, VAT etc and still saving 50% on the uk price, yes its worth the aggro, 100x over to save that kinda money
I have no small experience of importing from the US, like I say sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. I hope you eventually come out on the right side.

Having had to clap the anchors on once too often due to uet another old fart elederly gentleman / lady pulling out in front of me as they were seemingly unable to hear the pitiful beep from a standard Defender horn I have decided to improve on the factory fit item...
Now where to hide a 2ft horn B)
