Thank you Jeff, makes all my trials and tribulations fade into insignificance!
I still think the Forum should sponsor a Jeff & Nige podcast where they recount their automotive maintenance adventures!

....... how much of a Charlie you'd feel ......
Oi!
There'll be no feeling of Charlie's around here thankyouverymuch!
Also, on the shed security front, I know opportunists may be put off by a lock, but it is a timber structure with walls a few mm thick at the end of the day.......
Also, the bigger the lock, the bigger the advert that there's something vlauable in there...

I'd listen to those noises. You have a thing that does the same job as a Discovery, you don't need another one.
You do need a 400bhp roller skate, though.

Try Domex grade 700MC
evil stuff
700MC 3mm has the same structural strength as 9mm S275 mild !
Nigel, Nigel, Nigel..... sigh...... 😛
It may have nearly 3 times the tensile strength but if you start making winch plates, or any other structural element that experiences bending forces out of any kind of 3mm steel you are going to come a cropper without some serious consideration of the structural design. The Young's Modulus doesn't change so your second moment of area will be 9 times smaller and your deflection for a given bending moment would be 9 times higher for a 3mm plate compared to a 9mm plate (assuming you remain in the linear eleastic portion of the stress-strain curve.
I shall descend from my soap box now.

Should I be smirking to myself that there are no blue skies in the pics? 🤣

If you post any more pictures of beautiful blue sky we are definitely going to fall out!

4x4 tyres had a 10% discount on BFG's when I bought mine a week ago... don't know if they're still running it...

The hard part will be persuading her to use the ramp! My old GSD needed help getting in and out but was a right cow (or should that be bitch?) to get to use the ramp rather than leap out! My current two haven't got to the age where they need a ramp so it is gathering dust in the garage.
Just buy one with an ali extrusion and not one with hinges that use the strength of the hinge to "lock out" when open - they fail - ask me how I know!

You could connext two diodes to the 'on' outputs, and connect them to to the trigger of a relay.
Then use the NC connection in the relay to power the buzzer.
When the switch is in either of the on positions, the relay will be triggered, turning the buzzer off.
Make sure relay is powered by ignition live though
Umm, English please????

Oh. My. God.
I literally cannot wait for the next instalment of "Personal Injuries in the Garage with Jeff" 🤣

Cold galvanizing isn't really galvanizing. It is just a zinc rich paint which if you use a good one will help but don't think you'll get anything like the protection and longevity of hot dipped galv.

There are times to be thrifty and inventive and there are times to be safe. I think I would be paying for delivery, even if only to the field entrance. You can then satiate your inventive need by working out a method to move it across the field, but with a RR and a load of logs I am sure you'll come up with something!

I don’t see any issues with Stainless over Galv.
Nor me. But there aren't any real benefits either, unless you are expecting your great grandkids to be driving it! A galv bulkhead will outlive everything else on the truck so can't see a strong argument for spending what I expect will be a lot more on stainless. I'd also be interested in what grade stainless they use as stainless steels are not made equal (as you well know!) - you just have to look at my Amazon special "stainless" post box that is quietly rusting outside my house.....

My Verniers have dials. Super easy to read but they are perhaps a little more fragile than a simple Vernier scale. (touch wood, not broken one yet!)

Fantastic piece of creative design and fabrication!
Ummm, has anyone assessed the gate or gatepost though.... you know.... your reputation does precede you and gravity takes no prisoners!

Bite the bullet and buy a GAP IID tool. L322 ownership is soooo much easier with one! Not cheap, but they are exceptionally good.

So tonight was meant to be a quick hour to connect the in tank pump lines up, pop the tank back in place and purge the system, hopefully followed by an engine start.
What actually happend was I fought the first (black) connector for 40 mins until I finally got it to seat, then spent the next 50 trying to get the blue one in only to completely muller one of the yellow o rings that should sit in the female half of the joint but for some reason had remained on the male part when I disassembled the connection.
So I now have a disabled car and have failed completely to find said o ring on the web. Does anyone know a part number or have an old assembly under a bench they could look at please?

My 200TDi auto 90 with a 1.2 also struggled on hills so can understand the OP's problem. As others have said, changing a transfer case is not hard if you have a helper.

Disclaimer - I am definitely not an auto electrician....
......but on my multimeter that is the continuity test position so would suggest there is a degree of resistance in that circuit? Perhaps? Maybeeeee? (see disclaimer!)

The same rack that snaps off mounting bolts you mean? Hmmm....
That said, interesting read and refreshing for the (apparent) openness.

Flatdog roofrack fitting solo
in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Posted
I used to fit my L322 roof rack on my own using those foam garage floor squares as pads / slides.
I would start at the rear though rather than having the bonnet it your way. Plonk one end on a sliding support on the roof and push!
