  2. hi all, the diff lock lever on my defender 90 does not want to engage. The diff lock light on the dash comes on when i force and hold it to the left, but the lever does not stay there. Low range and high range is working fine. Only the diff lock (4x4) seems to be a problem. Is it a sticky lever. how do i free it up. cheers

    brakes

hi all, i am sure the very knowledgable members of this forum will be able to assist me with the following two queries: 1. why does the front right wheel brake on me series 3 109 lock when the brakes is applied. It does not gently brake but rather grabs quite viciously. I have checked the linings and they are fitted correctly. There is an adjuster nut on the backing plate which pushes the shoe away from the backing plate. Does this need to be positioned properly perhaps? 2. when my series 3 ist ravelling uphill laden, approx 500-750kg and and when the brake is depressed, the wheels start binding. The brakes does not release. i vitually have to reverse to release it slightly. I dont know if any forum member has experienced this before. any help wil be appreciated. thanks
  7. hi guys i found the relay/timer as you pinpointed. When i turn the key on i can hear and feel the click in the relay. But yet the glow light does not come on. Anyway, i changed the relay with another and it is now perfect. The light glows on the dash just before starting. But just a thought, if the relay is clicking, why is it not activating. Thanks a million Bogmonster and Orange5mach. Much apreciated
  8. thanks a million guys. will start checking there. i'll keep you posted. cheers

  10. Hi there. my glow plug light which comes on just before you start the disco has not been coming on in the dash for the last few days. Is it the globe in the dash or the glow plugs itself that is stuffed. Advice as to where to start looking will be appreciated. thx
  11. thanks for the informative replies guys. much appreciated , Guess when i consider travelling lond distances, it will be best to carry a spare alternator.
  12. Hi guys just a qik question. I have a 1997 300tdi disco 1. What will happen if the alternator packs up in the bush eg not charging or the bearings cease. Can the disco still be push started. will it be mobile. thanks in advance

  14. Hi All, The interior light above the rear view mirror does not come on when switched on during driving. It only comes on when the door is opened. I checked for earthing problems but nothing seems to point to the problem. Any help will be appreciated thx

  16. Hi all i sem to having some problems on my series 3, 109. When i depress the clutch while moving slowly, i feel a clunking noise in the gear box. It seems as if the clutch is not acting properly to nuetralise the gear box. However, once the vehicle gets properly heated up after driving a distance, the clutch gets quite. Reminds me of brakes... after driving for a while u get a full pedal of brakes. Anyone has any thoughts on what the problem could be. Do i have to adust the clutch? thanks in advance
