  1. Hi! Guys,

I have a 1990 Defender 110 which did not have PAS, but had an A/C not sure if it was factory fitted or an afteramarket.

Just last week added a PAS & also got the A/C compressor serviced and now everything is working fine. A pleasure to drive the defender with the PAS.

But now my problem is that its very sluggish with the A/C on and without much better. Also its overheating a lot. Is there any remedy for this. The needle is always on the border of the orange colour in the temp gauge. Its hardly in the white area. Mostly between the white and orange portion of the temp gauge.

My question is : Can a 2.5 N/A Diesel handle the A/C & PAS at the same time? Is the load too much for the 2.5 N/A?

Will fitting two Kenlow fans help. What size of fans will help.

  2. Hi! Simonr,

very nice pics. Do real justice to the product. Will go in for them shortly for my 110, even though I dont do extrem offroading. Do they make a huge difference on road too?

Uncle Les? The nasty man is dissing my Photographs! ;)

Steve's photos do look much better than mine to be fair. I guess you can't be good at everything!

The QT ones are a lot more chunky (as are Gigglepin etc) - but by adding a bend in the tube you weaken it significantly - so need to beef it up to compensate.

The X-Arms don't need the bend because the joint has so much movement (enough for +/- 45 degrees of articulation without relying on the screw threads for the rotational component!) that it would only loose you up travel if they were cranked. They are made from heavy walled CDS, but are still lighter than most of the competition, reducing un-sprung weight.

If you manage to bend them (without first crushing the tube), which I doubt - I'll replace them for free!

The feedback received so far has been terrific. I had a really nice email from a chap in Poland who used the arms + springs with Gwyn Lewis shock mounts in a big comp in the last couple of weeks saying how well it all worked together and ordered another set for his friend!

  3. Hi! Guys,

I am looking for a brand new dash for my RHD defender 110. I also want to change the instrument panel (Speedo & all the other gauges). Tried a search but was not successful. Can a new Defender dash fit my old 1990 dash?

Would appreciate it if you can give me some info on this and where to get a new dash or atleast replacement parts.

    Thanks

  4. 2,5NAD, right? There is a gasket in the form of a rubber sleeve on the cap. If that's to worn, this can happen.

    I have one spare...

Mines a 2.5NAD too and have the same problem, must get a new cap as well as a new gasket. Why could LR not design a threaded type like all other cars???????? :angry2:

  5. I would like to add power steering to my 2.5na. I have a box, but the tough part for me to source here in the states is the mount. Is there a specific mount for the 2.5? Will one from a 2.5td or a 200tdi work? The other question is, will the two belt crank pully be sufficient?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

    Hi! Chris,

I too have a 2.5 Na and was happy a fellow forum member was breaking down his Defender and I bought the whole PAS stuff from him.

Its a joy now to drive the defender, without PAS it was very very painful in Indian traffic conditions. While driving its ok but when you need to park, its a nice gym workout for the arms and shoulders.

    LANDY POWER ASSISTED STEERING:-

Yes you can convert to PAS, you need to get hold of:

    A Power Steering Pump

    A Twin belt crank pulley

    A PAS steering box

    The pipework required, and

A fluid reservoir. It isn't too hard, but you gotta get these.

    Oh, and another belt.

You should also check that your engine has the holes dirilled and tapped in the side of the block for the pump - they mount in the bottom right hand side, as you are standing in front looking at the engine, underneath the alternator.

Try asking on the forums. You might get lucky, just like me.

some more pics on the pipes you will need

    fluid tank

  6. Ive replaced the lt77 with an r380 in my 90 and used a 300 seatbox and tunnel. I re-used the gearbox mountings and the remote housing from the lt77, but now the gearlever is sitting further left than I would like. Are the gearbox mountings different between the r380 and the lt77 or is it the remote housing thats different?

    Vinny

    Hi! Vinny,

What was the reason to upgrade from LT77 to R380? Are there any benefits on doing this?

  7. Fitted one to my 110 with overdrive on Christmas eve.

Really simple to fit, well impressed.

    Hi! Simon,

Which overdrive you have for your 110. Does it really make a difference by adding an overdrive inspite of having 5 gears. I have a 110 with a 2.5 N/A Diesel & a LT77 gearbox. Am planning on adding an overdrive. Got a quote for a 2nd hand one at £650.

Will also add a X-brake later. Appreciate your responce!

  8. yes they have a 3 groove crank pulley that bolts to the crank damper. part number for the pulley is ERC6859

    http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v384/wes...roove%20pulley/

photo's of my 200Tdi's 3 groove pulley in the link above

water pump/alternator/fan belt fits as per your existing belt Centre Groove

power steering uses a seperate belt Front Groove

air con has a seperate belt Rear Groove

    hth :D

    HI! western,

Thank for the reply. Will try and get this part. Thanks for the part number .

  9. Hi!

I have a 1990 RHD Defender 110 5 door with a 2.5 N/A Diesel engine. The original did not have a power steering. Also the AC was an add on by the previous owner.

Thanks to the forum I managed to get a 2nd complete power steering kit as one of the members was breaking down his defender.

On adding the PAS kit, there is one belt to the PAS pump, and the other goes to the fan There is no third groove for the AC compressor?

My question is how do Defenders which have a PAS, A/C have a 3-grooved bottom pulley. How does one have the bottom pulley drive the main fan, PAS PUMP, ALTERNATOR & A/C.

Do I need to get a 3- grooved new bottom pulley so tha 1st grove drives the main fan & alternator, 2nd grove drives the PAS Pump and the 3rd outer most grove drive the A/C compressor.

Any help on this will be great. Wil post pictures tomorrow.

  10. Hi!

I have got a 1990, 110 defender 5 door with a 2.5 N/A diesel engine in it. Sadly there is no power steering and makes life hell to park/drive especially in crowded Bangalore town, here in India.

Is there any site or person who can source me the complete kit (I mean everything!) to convert my landy to a PAS. Dont mind even buying a new kit. Would appreciate your help on this.
