  1. Have the following on my 1991 def 110.

Front:(with a bullbar and the spare wheel on the bonnet)

Totally unladen and stock landy. Still feel that there is not enough of compression of the springs. The ride is still hard and not comfortable. Previousl had on the rear 2755 which needed 300kgs constant weight.

Appreciate some expert advise. What is the stock springs on a new 110, the same equivalent in OME>

  2. I have a Def 110, 1991 model. I used to have a funny problem, when I switch ON the headlight in the evening/night and drive, the Ampmeter show negative readings and the Horn sounds very weak. Also Funny thing is that the temp gauge goes up. Even though the engine temp is normal.

The minute I switch OFF the headlights the temp drops and the Horn now sounds OK. Thought it was my battery which was 7 years old. Hence did this:

Bought a brand new 100 Amp Battery and also decided to go in for a better new Alternator.

Now in the morning when I start the Landy, the Ampmeter still shows negative and once she starts it climbs to the middle. No problem with starting as there is enough of Juice.

On evening drives the story is the same. Once I switch On the Headlights or Spot lights the amp meter goes to negative and more this time and again the Horn is very weak. Still the Temp gauge goes up. All this stops once I switch Off the headlights.

Wondering what is happening. Checked the battery and alternator all are brand new and its charging the battery too.

Any advise from the Landy Gurus will be helpful.

  3. Hi! Guys,

I have a 1990 LR DEF 110 which has a Salisbury rear axel and the front not too sure. Plan on adding front and rear ARB lockers.

I do not know how many splines the front and rear half shafts are! Any inputs will be great. Also If upgrading to front and rear Diff Lockers is it necessary to upgrade the shafts?

What are the ARB models required. I know the rear is ARB RD20 if I am right.

    Appreciate your advice.

  4. I have a Def 1991 110. Funny but from the day I have her the acelerator pedal seems to have a play of 1.5-2" only after I press the pedal for 1.5"-2" does the pedal come into effect. Tried even tightening the cable at the pump end but the play is still there and hence the overal throw is much short.

Should I get a new pedal or is there anyway we can correct this either from the pedal side or the pump side.

  5. Guys,

I just got my Red Booster fitted into my 1991 Landy 110. Trust me the clutch before was very hard and after a long drive in the Bangalore Traffic, my knees used to pain. I had bought this kit from Andrew many months back about in Jan, finally managed to get it fitted last week.

The after effects are awesome, driving the landy back from the garage, felt like the clutch had collapsed and it was so easy to press the clutch which I was not used to now. I asked the mechanic to fit a spring for the pedal as it was too soft, after it was done the clutch now has some resistance! It took me a day to get used to the extremely soft like butter clutch pedal, but now I am enjoying it like hell. Trust me guys this is the best investment I have made on my Landy, especially I am saving my knees for my old age!

Forgot to mention mine landy is a 110, 200tdi. Now with new OME nitrocharger sport shocks and OME HD springs.

Even though the RB is expensive, it is worth it as Andrew had made all the custom parts for my 200TDI fit and everytime I called he would respond and help 110%. I am glad I bought the RB Hydraulic Clutch. Wonder why Land Rover cannot make this as OE on all Defenders?

  6. Its been a few months since I noticed that the LHS rear sliding window on my 110 was hanging only with a few rivets on the top and the whole bottom edge rivets had broken. Finally yesterday and today I drilled out all the rivets, took out the entire glass and also the inner FRP cards and gave it all a good clean.

Just finished riviting the entire glass with brand new rivets. Also tightened all the nuts and bolts holding the roof to the side panels. Now for a nice drive. Nothing like working on your own landy and getting a satisfied feeling after you did a good job to your own satisfaction. Putting the damn beading that covers the rivets was a pain in the butt.

  7. Had recently bought a Terrafirma RTC damper for my 110, used it for about 200km on road and then noticed that the aluminum spring retainer had cracked. Found it really funny that this happend with in city driving only. Must have been a one off defective part.

Anyhow shot of a few emails to David of Brookwell and Eddi of Allmakes and within a week a brand new replacement retainer was sent.

This is the kind of service one looks for. THis has put more faith in Terrafirma products. Will be buying more stuff from them.

  8. Guys,

Am buying the beefed up SUMO Extreme HD Steering bars & will be replacing my aged track rod ends plus even the drop arm ball joint.

Just wanted to know what is the correct distance between the centre of the track rod ends for the bar in the front and the one behind for a 1990 110?

Saw in last months LRO the same job being done on a Disco, but I guess the values will be different for a Defender 110.
