  1. Thanks all. The Maxtrax look very good, the sort of thing I was thinking (except for the price!).

    Something along those lines with a ladder of sorts to attach them to for bridging would be great. For traction use the maxtrax, for bridging slide them or sit them on a frame or something.

    I had thought of a ladder made from 1" angle, but wasn't sure what sort of traction I'd get from it in mud or if it would just sink in, and again, the weight would be high.

    Mike, think netting in mud would be no good. Never tried it though so maybe it would?

    Seems there isn't a solution out there already so I'll look at making my own I think.

  2. I'm not sure if there is a decent alternative to waffle boards out there so thought I'd ask. If not, what would you liek to see improved with teh current products?

    I find then heavy-ish to lug around or leave in teh landy all of the time, and horribly heavy when clogged with mud. Also find when clogged with mud they are a pain to store.

    I'm not talking about challenge trucks here, I'm talking about the family Disco, green laning, muddy fields etc.

    I've used mine loads and wouldn't be without them, but am considering making my own alternative design. Only ever used them for bridging a few times, they mostly get used when I'm stuck in the mud and nearly always need a helpful tug onto them.

  3. R380's really like ird (freelander transfer box) oil, really helps gearchanges.

    my old mans disco was bought at 99k with a dead 2nd gear syncro, it baulked every time first to second. flushed the gearbox with red diesel, refilled with ird and it very very rarely baulked. gearbox lasted until 201k when he sold the disco.

    May I suggest that it could have done that if you had also put in MTF94? Maybe it just needed an oil change?

  4. Spotted this at Hamsterly Forest yesterday. Looks a lot more rounded, and a touch lower than the current range rover. Interior and dash were covered so couldn' get any pics of those. The pics don't show quite how softly rounded it is, even the roof has a curve. Hardly a straight line on it! The rear quarter shows the best curve in the pic I think, but the whole vehicle is shaped like this. Looks nice, if a bit soft!

  5. Is it worth getting the CCTV footage put online? If nobody recognises them immediately they may recognise them when they try to shift the stolen gear. Of course check the police are happy with this first. This forum has a very large number of subscribers that are in the target group for this gear to be sold to.

    I agree.

    It is unbelievable that they spent so long doing this as well! What is the world coming to when no one calls the police or questions such activity at 1am in the morning.

    Lets hope they find them, and more importantly, your gear.

  6. Try unplugging the MAF sensor and see if that helps with the turbo lag. When my sensor was faulty last it caused that problem.

    Have you only noticed the whistle since fitting the decat pipe? Could be a warped manifold. I "lost" my rear silencer and notice my turbo whistle a bit now when I'm heavy with the right foot, so it may just be the loss of the cat?

  7. All fitted, easy enough job. Only minor complaint is that there were no washers supplied with teh tre's, so I had to pop out and buy four 12mm washers. Also a minor gripe is that the steering damper bracket is welded on so you can only adjust the rod by one full turn If your wsteering wheel doesn't quite line up you'll need to remove it and reseat it so it's level.

    With these and the replacement upper and lower ball joints the steering is much improved! Didn't realise how bent the old rods were until I got them on the bench!

    So, I'd recommend these as a cheaper alternative to the rest, and see no reason the tre's won't last as long as any other, and at £6 for a replacement I'll not loose sleep if they don't.

  8. Well mine have arrived and I must say I'm impressed. They are not Britpart, they come from a company called Atek who are Indian. I've greased them today, checked the nuts (full nuts supplied) up and down the threads, and the threads in the bars, and they are perfect. Powder coat finish is good, although I know it'll not last long anyway! The TRE's are very good as well. Obviously time will tell, but they certainly look and feel very good quality.

    Friend coming over later so if the weather holds we will have them fitted before closing time :i-m_so_happy:

    Oh, and before anyone knocks them coming from India, remember who owns our steel industry and Land Rover now :ph34r: I'd rather they be Indian than Chinese that's for sure!

  9. Thanks Peter. I can see the bit you mean and will do that anyway, but I think mine is from the recessed metal plug/bung below that? Not sure, may be the camshaft seal and running down so will give that a try first as that won't cost me anything!

  10. Hi, I did ask them, and check the recipt afterwards and they have used MTF94. Good thinking though, wasn't my first thought regarding teh noise, but I know some garages think it is atf in these and I know it isn't.

    Funnily enough I am now in sunny Grimsby and after 140 miles with the cruise control sat at 60mph (very quiet roads all the way!) the box sounds better. There's still a bit of chatter at lower speeds, but the worrying noise and the chatter at tickover has gone. Maybe some of it was clutch noise and it's now bedded in a bit, who knows. It might be even better after the return journey, fingers crossed!

    I could live with it now without worrying so much though if it stays like this. Still get looks from pedestrians as I pass them slowly through town though :blink:

  11. It has brand new oil in it, might be why it sounds worse than before the clutch change perhaps?

    I am confident enough, just not physically able at the moment so it'll stay how it is. I have a 360 mile round trip to do now,typical, I haven't done that many miles this month! The AA card and toothbrush are packed just in case :ph34r:

    Hopefully, as you say, it'll be ok for a while longer yet. I'd be happy to change the bearings myself when I can. I gues sthere's something in the tech archieve about it so will search when I get back.
