  1. Hi all, looking at some suspension for my project vehicle. Im keeping it standard height, fox dampers etc.   Im Ideally trying to cut down on weight with the vehicle, is there any light weight good quality standard height radius arms out there that any one can recommend or should i stay with the land rover ones?
It will be used for rallying and on the road.

any help or recommendations much appreciated as always

  2. Check the earth in the attached connector C0083 - 2 black wire make sure it makes good contact in the plug also measure resistance against body in the male side... is that the only thing which is not working? that's important

The earths are fine. When i turn the ignition on the tell tale lights on the front and rear fog switches are very faintly flashing. When i push the switches in the tell tale lights go out until i let go an they come back on faintly again.

The fogs are the only thing that arnt working. Everything else is fine.

  3. Hi all small issue. Kind of. My front and rear fog lamps are not working on my discovery 2 wiring loom for my project vehicle. the switches when they are turned off the led lights on them flash very lightly. An glow up properly when you push them in an hold them there. Iv tried changing the switches with one i know work for sure. There just no power going to the lights.

All this is when i have the head lights on as well before i get asked that one ?

When i put the my power probe on the wire that goes from the switch to the bcu it lights up red on the led but flickers green very faintly. Iv never come across this before.

    Any ideas please?

    Many thanks

  4. Hi all. Does anyone know where i can download a copy of the early discovery 2 wiring diagram. Im putting a disco 2 loom into my project vehicle as you do. An the later 2003 discovery facelift edition colours of the wires dont match up to this discovery loom. Its definatly a disco 2 loom i have bought as its all plugged into the bcu an fuse boxes ect.

I never expected they would change the looms from early models to later ones.

Any ideas anyway would be a big help.

    Cheers

  5. You'll need to give a bit more info on how you're planning to mount them. I'm pretty sure 2.5s won't fit through the coil platform and provide clearance at all axle positions plus bush compliance. To get them on, you'll need to mount them out side of the coil and fabricate top and bottom mounts to suit.

Let me know if you want any more advice. Cheers, Toby

If you need to ask the most basic questions, then something like this is not what you should be pursuing.

ive got 3" coilovers on my new build & it can be quite decieving how much space they take up, on the rear om shocks are tilted forwards 5 degrees with 16" of travel, & on the front is 14" with the shocks reclined 25 degrees which gives about 15" ish of travel,

Thank you to those who replied and where helpful.

I do know i will have to cut the spring mounts off to accommodate the coil overs i was more concerned about the possibility of snapping a coil over shock when the axle drops and articulates back and forth. i know from looking at other racing 4x4s they usually put a strap on to stop the axle going further than a certain distance or so i am told. but also helps when lifting to change a wheel.

I'm pretty sure which route i need to take now though. thanks guys.

Red 90 giving an answer such as that does not help, we didn't all get a chance to have an education in this sort of thing. like i said in my question I'm self taught and learning, with no help from anyone nearby. Im not the sort of person to copy what everyone else does i like to do things differently an learn new things. can't help don't answer, thats simple. don't degrade people .!!!!

  6. I had a similar problem a few month back, my td5 disco would start fine run fine up till i reached around 2500 rpm, did the waste gate, injector seals, fuel filter, still had the problem, turned out to be the fuel sender unit. runs spot on now apart from a knocking watts linkage. lol

anyway just another thing to check dont know if it will help or not. hope you find what it is.

  7. hi all, im fitting coil over suspension to my discovery 1 race project.

I'm going for the fox 2.5 Coil overs with dsc

am i right in saying they need to be mounted at a certain angle to allow for how the axles go up and down? HAs anyone done this before. its a slight learning curve for me too but something I'm determined to learn about and do, so any advice would be great

    thanks

  8. Hi all, let me start by saying i mean no disrespect to anyone when i ask this, but are brit part CV joints any good for discovery 2? i only ask as iv had a few seals and gaskets in the passed and theyve ended up been changed not long down the line there after. iv not had stuff like this and just wanted some recommendations please.

mine nackerd making the noise like i have a flat tyre when i turn right at low and now high speeds. like a du du du du du sound .

    LOL

    many thanks in advance

  9. hi all does anyone know if i would be able to fit a discovery 2 door lock actuator into a disco 1 door, i only ask as im building a project vehicle and it has disco 2 wiring loom etc and i want to be able to us the dead locks on my vehicle. its a complicated build to explain

    cheers

  10. Hi all, does anyone know how many splines a discovery 200 steering wheel has?

i only ask as i dont have one for my project vehicle and when i find one want to make sure i get the right one. But im also going to be trying to find a after market unless anyone can recommend one, a heated steering wheel that would fit the column.

This is something for my mum when she drives it, so any ideas and recommendations would be awesome thanks

    cheers

  11. If you are not wed to having the SRT8 dash, then a universal dash which plugs into the OBD port of your shiny engine will do it all nowadays.... they even make retro gauges that sit on some kind of bus that plug into an ECU which connects to the OBD port.... Have a look round the US hot rodding sites, I bet you will find something you like off the shelf.

yes im pretty set on having the srt8 Gauges, this for me is a learning curve as well, so im pretty set on the challenge its just where to start.

  12. hi all , has anyone ever done a conversion from a mechanical to electronic speedo on a land rover.

I'm doing a bespoke interior for my discovery 1 project vehicle something different, and want to fit a electronic speedo set, an wondered if you guys have ever done one and whats involved. i know which speedo kit I'm after. A srt8 dash board kit from a dodge challenger 2013 vehicle. to suit the engine i have for it.

Im going for the muscle car style discovery, something different .

any help any one can advise would be much appreciated.

    regards

    chris

  13. I have no idea if there's any difference between the 300 and 200 TDi sender units, quite possible not ! The different sender units on the plastic tanks are pretty much interchangeable barring a few different lengths due to tank depth differences. The 300TDi sender unit is ideal simply because it has two pipes, the pickup pipe has a sprung extension on the bottom that ensures it sits on the bottom of the tank and it has a shorter return pipe. I would take the sender unit you have out and have a look at it, I'm not all that familiar with the old school diesels but I always assumed the 200TDi and 300TDi would have the same sender unit, the one I used happened to come out of a 300TDi Discovery.

No need to change the tank, the plastic tanks all have the same sender fitting so you can use pretty much any sender in any tank. You wouldn't want to use a TD5 sender though, they're essentially a swirl pot design that sits in the tank with a low and high pressure pump in the same unit.

Thats brill, ill look into this then. Many thanks for all your help Dave.

  14. Can't help with any of this, just drool, what is the power/torque of the LS verses the AJV8 in my D3?

    GM engine in a Ford!!

Do you have a build website? Not that I want to change my engine but interested in the mechanics of the mod.

When I have eard of AJV8 failures in a D3 (not often) this has not come up.

    Marc

iv no idea what the ajv8 power rating is, but with the additional bits on the engine its roughly (not been tested yet) going to be putting out 525-550hp. not sure what the torque will be as im getting mixed answers on that one but roughly 489lbs of torque if not a little more. but wont know till its all been tested. as im doing this project on my own may take a little while before that happens.

  15. Not sure about the 200TDi, is it a plastic tank ?

You don't need huge i/d pipes so the existing sender pipes are likely to be about right. I can't remember the exact size of mine but from memory I think they're 8mm i/d or thereabouts. On the 300TDi Discovery with a plastic tank the original fuel pick up and return is perfect, on the donor vehicle I used the original fuel pipes were plastic and had threaded compression joints to join them to the sender. I cut away the plastic pipe and used hose clips to secure the new pipe to the brass stems. It may seem like you need bigger pipes to supply the fuel but if you're using more fuel than an 8mm pipe can deliver you have some serious fuel consumption issues !

On my original setup the pre-filter and the fuel pump inlet were 22mm or something similar which was a real PITA to deal with. The rest of the system was all 7 or 8mm i/d though. When I re-designed it I got an 044 with an 8mm inlet and used off the shelf disposable 8mm EFi filters before and after the pump.

hi yes its a plastic fuel tank. this is the bit thats getting me, as to whether the i/d will be big enough to suit what the ls3 needs. im guessing with you saying the 300tdi fuel pick up was perfect, im guessing the 300tdi pick up would fit into a 200tdi tank is that correct with them been nearly the same vehicle? i have seen that some are putting in ls engines into td5 vehicles, with what looks like the td5 sender unit in the tank, would a td5 fuel tank fit in place of a discovery 200 one maybe?.

    apologies for going on abit.

thanks for your help so far

  16. I don't think you will get an in tank pump to flow enough fuel at the right pressure.

The Bosch 044 seems to be the one thats always recommended.

You could use a low pressure pump flowing high volume into a fuel swirl pot, and then feed out of there via a higher pressure high flow pump (which is my plan).

    Bit of waffle on here:

    How far is your build?

    Rob

brill ill check these out, builds coming along well, iv gone over and above what the vehicle is worth a lot are telling me but I'm not bothered, its something iv wanted for a long time, its just figuring everything out.

what sort of sender would you suggest putting in the tank? for the pipes to attach to from the pump part?

  17. As above really, unless you are using a swirl pot you don't need a lift pump. The Bosch 044 is a good pump (I use one of those on mine at the moment) but it's bloody noisy compared to the Sytec equivalents. I originally fitted one to my TD5 and swapped it for a Sytec one as it was drowning out the sound of the diesel engine !

My LS engine was "turn key" so came with a pump but last year I replaced it with an 044 after noticing a lack of fuel pressure. At the same time I changed it over to use a more obtainable pre and post filter.

I sourced mine from http://www.fuelpumpsonline.co.uk as they can supply your choice of connectors, filters and pump mounts etc... Very helpful on the phone when I had some queries about the various connector sizes. You'll also need a fuel pressure regulator, I have an adjustable one next to the pump on mine and don't use a vacuum control because I find it's easier to get the Megasquirt tuned in with a fixed fuel pressure.

thats great, what part should i fit to the tank part though? the sender part I'm talking about? as i imagine the 200tdi one won't be any good considering the size of the pipes. if that makes sense.

  18. Hi all. small problem. i have a Discovery 1 which used to be a 200tdi, is now a Ls3 V8 with roughly 550bhp when it will be running.

i did ask a few months ago about a fuel pump and got recommended a external electric fuel pump but i never thought to ask what lift pump should i put in the tank to allow the pump the suck up and out, (dummy!!!!!)

i would imagine the 200tdi pipes out of the lift pump would be too small ? am i correct? Any recommendations if so.

    cheers

  19. hi all. every now an then when my discovery td5 is running cold when in first an getting to biting point it will judder like its struggling to bite. but doesn't stall. when warm its fine . its probably happened bout 4 times in the passed month. the clutch otherwise feels fine and changes smooth. reverse is also fine. all gear changes are fine with no crunching.

    any ideas.?

    cheers
