they are a performence thing you put in the turbo pipe midway.. it circulates the air before it get into the turbo (the same direction) makes it easyer to drag air in and drags more air in so it performs better and turbo isnt working so hard to get that air in.
i think. some one will correct me if i am wrong!
if you do not fancy buying a proshaft sockit thingy..
what i done is got 3/8th drive ratchet and extention bar (about 6inch somthing like that) and 9/16th sockit.. and therr you are.. saved few bob..
bit simple idea and some may have allready foudn it out but oh well..
is it a v8 engine?
v8's have a santana gear box which is differnt to lt77 and r380 as far as i know,
if you take the hand break drum off, and thewre is 4x 15mm bolts.. undo them and take the pin out if the hand break mechinisam,
where the speedo plugs in, that unit will come out with a little screwdriver leavering..
its saves changing the hole rear out put shaft unit..
here are some picture (go down the bottom few pictures to see about speedo drive)

oh right. so i dont really need to touch the speedo then? cheers
well i have a uprated intercooler and tweaked fuel pump but all the gear pull fine apart from 5th seems to take a little longer, not sure the affects on standerd engine, it is if not quicker then the 1.410 box becuase it holds in gear longer and your not spending half your time changing gear.
yeah its a better top end, so it not reving the nuts off it at 70 and now it cruses which i great (hills and head winds should be interssting)..
hi there..
i'v just finshed fitting a disovery transfer box in my defender,
what a different it has hade.. much more nippyer.
anyway
as there is a differnt ratio and the speedo is calibrated to 1.410 ratio and i ahgve put 1.222 ratio.. i need to get the speedo re-calibrated?
cheers
hi all.. just a thought i had..
is i possible to change the input gear in a lt230 tranfser box, 1.410 ratio with a 1.222 ratio..
due to the differnt size in the gears the teeth will not mesh properly will they?
OUCH, well i guess you wont be changing the temp sender!
what you have explained on here.. i have none of them, so it must of been i sign.
im not gunna lie, i would say a engine recon job, you dont knwo if there is any damage to the cylinders, con rods, ect.
i hate them.. i made brackit for the rad and intercooler shell thingy.. just cut the wires and put bllit conniectors on just in case.. the origenal brakit ripped my rad apart (it was shagged anyway) the only leaks where the brakits where for the fan..
to be fair i havnt noticed the differnt between not having viscouse and having a viscouse.. it not much noticble differnt in mpg (i only do short jorneys).. only good thing is with no fan is motorway when the engine is running hot there is no fan to draw the power out the engine more mpg for motorway.. if youget my drift haha..
yeah give it a whearl.. i must say ever since i got the truck.. i didnt have a viscous fan atthe time had a kenlowe but it was the guage was reading that temp which was close to hot. i couldnt trust the kenlowe and one day i didnt kick when sposed to didnt watch the temp for 5 mins.. looked and it was on the red... i cort it just intime before it did major damage, so i went to back to viscouse.. it has actualy nocked it down to 3/4 now but still to hot i think... the engine dont feel that hot either.. so the only thing i can think it will be is the guage or the sender unit.. as i said it did the trick on my brother 110.
heres the part numbers for: Coolant Temperature Sensor PRC8001 (orange) and PRC9917 (green)

i have the same problem with my 200tdi.. and on my brother 110.. the old chap changed the sender unit. it did the trick on a 2.5td not sure on 200tdi... yet. does the guage go up more at night?
ohhh soo when you fill the gearbox up it allso fills the extension housing up? i was looking for a seperate plug for the extension house...
is that right?
do you roughly know which side and how far it ment to be up the casing.. i just looked and all i found was a bango fitting with a pipe about half way up and a earth wire? cheers
Hi chaps.. i'm need of some advice... i have a LT77 gearbox on my defender, at the moment have no transfer box on and i have drained the extension housing oil out.. and have no idea what oil, have a little idea how to put it back in.. isnt there a grub screw undert he main shaft to poor oil in? and anyone know what oil it takes? im thinking EP90? cheers then sam
