Personally I think 50% antifreeze is too much, especially as antifreeze cuts down on the efficiency of the cooling system. On Rolls-Royce V12s (Merlin, Griffon) we used 40% and that sounds about right. I live in a country where it rarely freezes at all and have always run my engines at 40%, mainly for the anti-corrosion properties of the antifreeze. And I now have 300k kms on the original radiator, water pump and all hoses on my 1995 300tdi. I also use best quality antifreeze and check the PH and the strength every so often. If you don't change the antifreeze every couple of years it becomes acidic (or less alkaline than it should be) and then problems start.
If you have means of testing it, new antifreeze is normally more than Ph 10, and if it drops below about 8.2 it should be changed.
I didn't know pH was critical, thanks for that Jim.

Cheers chaps,
Ralph could you enlighten me as to what the total cooling volume is so I can calculate the 33% please?
Thanks,
Mick.

Rich,
Not sure where you are but if you are any where near Blackburn I have a meter you can use to trim in your antenna once you have one.

Thanks chaps, I've never used Paddocks, guess I won't be doing either.
Mike, the seam has gone between the N.S. Tank and the core, don't have time to get it re-cored but I may do so I have a spare.

Gents,
Not wishing to reignite the Britpart debate but could anybody tell me if Paddocks stock Britpart?
They list an aftermarket radiator for Defender TD5 at £99 + VAT, if I order it will it turn up in a blue box?
If so it looks like I'll have to spend £220 + VAT for original ( but I will know it will last 10 years )
-
Quick question please gents,
After changing a TD5 radiator how much antifreeze should I be putting in?
Thanks,
Mick.

^^^^^ as above.
Turning it on is fine, cue the mic and you will fry it.

Part 3 please Jeff.

Before I spend a fair amount of cash I would be interested in any opinions of the above company and their products.
Thinking on the lines of EGR bypass, intercooler & hybrid turbo.
Thanks,
Mick.

I must not panic post, I must not panic post, I must not...
Cheers Gromit,
After taking the fan cowl off I can see that the rad has split, no sign of water in the oil or vapour from the exhaust, may have got away with it this time...

Gents,
Coming back from a mornings clay pigeon shooting, I was doing around 70 on the motorway when she seemed to loose a chunk of power and the temperature gauge started swinging around from cold to red hot, ah electrical gremlins I thought, after about a minute the gauge dropped to the bottom so I foolishly pressed on.
At the top of the slip road steam started drifting up the bulkhead, not good.
Limped home and popped the bonnet to the delightful sound of the expansion tank boiling away.
Had a quick look around, fan belt is still there, hoses are all ok and the oil looks good but I can't help thinking head gasket or worse...
What are the common engine issues on an early TD5?
Is it time to start shopping for a 4.6?
Cheers,
Mick.

Gent's,
Fag lighter in my 110 caught fire the other day melting the sat nave charger!
Bought a replacement but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the green plastic illumination shroud off without snapping it, what am I missing chaps?
Embarrassed.

Cheers Frax

Thanks chaps.
Frax do you recall how thick the drop plate was?
Looks to be 10mm ish?
-
Ah, as simple as that.
Thanks Ralph.

Thanks Frax,

Well that was a marathon bit of driving! (other chocolate bars are available
)
Huge thanks to Mick (aka Stuck) for rocking up and getting stuck in. Couldn't have done it without your help, really really grateful although did you really have to keep on reminding me I shouldn't have sold the 90 whilst we were trying to cram the mill into the back of my Focus
whilst also dropping into the conversation that you have a Bridgeport and a Colchester Student! Git!
Anyhow, safely back home now with a lot of mill in the boot of the car. Also got a milling vice, face cutter, slitting wotsit and about 20 end mills thrown in which was a bonus.Time to sweet talk the neighbours and get it into the garage.......
No problem Bish.
Good little mill that and in superb condition. A tribute to the old boy that sadly had to sell it.
Mick.
PS I still maintain you should not have sold the 90'

Hi all,
I have a 110 that I use to tow my CCV thingy.
The 110 is fitted with Gwyn's challenge suspension (which IIRC gives about a 2" lift) & 35" tyres.
Even with the Dixon Bate at it's lowest point I can't hitch the trailer safely so every time I need to do so I'm changing wheels.
Obviously this is a pain in the arse, I can fab extension plates for the drop plate but have heard that a TD5 rear isn't exactly bullet proof
If I do this am I asking for trouble?
Cheers,
Mick.

Ralph you are a star!
Thanks.
-
Cheers Ralph,
The pic is of my 110 when I purchased her (quite a bit modified since then)
Reason I ask is I want to get a truck cab painted the same colour, it's not metallic but can you tell me how I defrentiate between the "solid" colours you have listed please?
Thanks,
Mick.
-
Gent's,
Other than blue can anybody tell me what LR call this colour please?
Ta,
Mick.

I have OME all round (springs & dampers),
Spendy but my 110 feels like a Porsche (ok, maybe not but a bl00dy lot better than it did on Procomp)
