  1. Just be careful you don't cut too much out Chris or you'll be back where you started <_<

Hmmmm  I could always cut every other nobble off either between the side lugs and stagger them so there is always 2 lugs diagonally and horizontally, that way they would be no more aggressive than a simex et. I will have to check that it works out evenly around the circumference of the tyre first.

I don’t want to end up in special class again

  2. they are easy enough to cut with a tyre regrooverIt will take a few hours to cut the nobbles off but will transform the performance of the tyre.

I did think about the fedima (simex copy) that are the same height as the ET2 but the rubber compound is harder so they dont grip quite so well on rocks.

  3. look I'm not being an areshole and saying this is illegal you should not do it.

Could you get away with it? - yes most probably. I doubt you'd have an issue with it. Your insurance company would have an issue with it if they ever found out.

Is it illegal? - yes. The tyre has been altered from it's original approved state. Under current UK law this is illegal for passenger cars and commercial vehicle under 3500KG - no ambiguity there.

At the end of the day do what you like :D

    Cheers

    Steve

well i think ill do it anyway, its no diffrent to loosing a few nobbles when offroading

Its not like im going to be taking it far on the road anyway with Portal axles and if i did get pulled over im sure they will be more interested in how fast i was going :o (or not with portal axles) rather than a few nobbles missing on my tyres, thats if they can even spot the diffrence  !

Thanks for the advice, its always good to know where we stand when you get pulled over by the Law(so we can always have a good excuse!):lol:

  4. The problem has now been solved i gave the engine a good service and checked all the conections etc and it runs as good as new again. I think it was the fuel filter because it had not been changed in a long time and was full of cr%p. Thanks for your help on this. I did a few mods to the bodywork whilst i had the tools out.!! :lol:212268992.jpg

  5. Just a thought - the symptoms remind me of old carbed lumps with blocked fuel filters... on paper it sounds like a fuel starvation prob.

But then on paper is nothing like first hand

It could be that to, ive got the parts sorted out to service the engine and ive also got a new high compresion cam kit on the way. So this weekend ill get stuck in and find the fault. hopefully it will be nice and simple ;) so i can get on with chopping :D the back end off.

  6. Ignition perhaps, could also be a fuelling problem - throttle position sensor springs to mind. Fuel pump, fuel pressure relief valve... well, the list is long with Hotwire :(

I was thinking it could be the throttle position sensor, im going to give it a good service, at the weekend i was thinking about put a new cam, tappets and timing chain in too considering the engine has done 135k

  7. never been raced or rallied, or on it's roof

Its got to go soon, im moving house this weekend so wont get the chance for a while to get it ready to sell, Im going to take off most of extras apart from the suspension lift and tyres, because no one is going to buy it when they see how battered the doors and roof are!

Im now on the lookout for a defender 90 300tdi, I did think about a disco but its to much work to turn into a proper challenge truck.

  9. What a great weekend, had a great laugh Saturday night, but felt a bit worse for it on Sunday, got to be the hardest event yet for my right finger switching the winch button!! Tom suffered a bit too! :D It took me 2 hours today to pressure wash all the mud off the Rhino.

Thanks Neil for running another great event we will be back next year in the mod class with something on portal axles.

  10. I have been going to his farm a few time and im not surprised, the last time I went there was a sheep dead tangled up in a load of barbed wire, he has got to be one of the worst farmers I know. The Farm if you can call it that looks like a tip, scrap cars, tyres, junk, everywhere no respect for the environment, Unfortunately some people who go there also leave rubbish making the place look even worse. I have been there when some Pyrotechnic enthusiasts exploded a car by detonating a 47kg propane gas bottle inside. I’m surprised that he has not been prosecuted by the environment agency too.

I love offroading but this site has been abused for too long, it’s the kind of thing that gives offroading a bad name.

Tommy is a nice enough guy it’s a shame he has such a lack of respect for animals and the environment.

  11. What a day!! I love that site it’s got some amazing terrain and some deep water! I had water coming over the tops of the doors just half an hour into the event ;)

We broke the rear winch, bent a front suspension wishbone and the Steering rack is not looking to good either! But we finished! The Yamaha will be back for more action next month.

Thanks Neil, all the Marshals and Scorpion Racing for putting on another great event.

  12. Just about got everything sorted out, we will be camping so will see u all tomorrow afternoon. The little Yamaha is ready to go after spending a few weeks out of action with twisted rear diff mounts, im lookin forward to a few less rocks!

  13. Thats really bad luck to get stuck in traffic for so long, we were home by 10pm, I cant beleve you still went to work! We had a great day too in our little Rhino, It was the most difficult tarrain i have ever driven. We only broke a door catch when we had a little roll getting to punch 4! If anyone has any pics of us can you post them up :D
