  1. Thanks Bogmonster. Would love to keep the compomotives, so getting the right tyre would be key. I Hate the way all after market steel wheels seem to rust after a couple of years. The 15" wheels are only 7j, would a 11.50 fit on that width of rim? Just curious. Most people say you need narrow tyres to cut through the snow, but i see plenty of 4x4's here that manage very well on quiet wide tyres.
  2. Thanks western and fridge for you replies. The tyre calculator was helpful. Was thinking of putting 31/10.50/15 on the compomotive's, does anyone know the actual diameter of these tyres when fitted?
  3. Hi All, Quick debate, I have a 96 defender 90 that sits on 15" compomotive VS alloy wheels, Tyres are 235/75/15. I have also just purchased a 92 defender 110, that needs some TLC, This has after market 16" steels with 7.50/16 tyres. The 90 will be sold at some point in the future. I live in the French Alps and spend my winters diving in all kinds of conditions, I guess my debate is the wheel size. The 90 feels good on the 15" plenty of get up and brakes well, top end is no issue really. But i just don't think they would be right on the 110, ground clearence etc. The tyres could be changed on the 15" if it were to help. Has anyone got any advice or words of wisdom for me? Thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks Western, will check the chassis number. Cheers
  5. Hi All, Can anyone tell me if the front and rear radius arms off my 96 defender 90, will fit directly on to a 92 defender 110? Cheers
  6. Thanks for your suggestions so far, I have searched the forum for similar post/treads but there didn't seem to be anything specific! Having spent considerable time and money stripping and rebuilding many suspension parts on my 300, including a full set of super pro bushes. i don't want to throw all this hard work down the drain by fitting inferior springs and shocks, hence why i asked for advice. I saw this set on eBay and wonder what your thoughts are? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=350165131330. Buy cheap, buy twice??? Cheers
  7. Yes, I believe i am your long lost half brother.
  8. Hi All, Need to replace the shocks on my 1996 defender 90. Want to stick with the standard ride height. As ever it needs to be on a budget! Whilst i am at it, would it be best to replace the springs as well? What are the merits of standard and heavy duty? I use it for work as a joiner but never carry anything overly heavy or do i tow much with it! Did notice recently that with all my tools in the back it does sag a fair bit, could this be due to the age of the springs?? Any reports on Armstrong shock absorbers? Anyway advice and opinions welcome, names of good suppliers etc. Cheers
  9. Asked a similar question myself not so long ago, and eveyone recommended super pro. Having now fitted a full set and been driving around on them for the past week and a bit, i can at first hand say the are top notch. Easy to fit, and a great ride. As above get the lot for £130, well worth doing!
  10. Having just spent the last three days welding my chassis, i was a little alarmed when i read this thread and realised i had forgotten to disconnect my battery! reluctently i wondered outside to see if the beast would start.......................... Yeah no problem!!! but don't take my lead.....
  11. best get stretching my pockets.!!
  12. umm bleach, thanks for the advice!
  13. thanks for all the reasponse people, very helpfull. not sure if my pocket can stretch to super pro. which is why i was thinking rubber. but poly bushes would be better. what do you reckon the next best thing would be, anyone else tried the britpat yellow ones from paddock?
  14. thinking of replaceing some of the major bushes on the landy. seen these on ebay, and wondered what people think of them or has anyone tried them? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=280201020514
  15. thanks chaps, the more i have to go on the better. i can start with the easiest and cheapiest, and work my way to the hardest and most expensive i reckon it's something or nothing, but always good to put your mind at rest and know why! Cheers
  16. thanks for all your comments. guess i will replace the copper o rings under the injectors, and take it from there. Cheers
  17. i did wondered whether it would be that. i personally have not removed the injectors whilst i have owned it, but it may have been done by someone else! if this was the case would it be oil leaking or diesel, i am sure its oil! cheers
  18. did wonder about it being diesel, read a few other posts on here about similar leaks. but i am almost 100% sure its oil, it is very black when rubbed between fingers. externally checked the rocker cover seal and doesn't seem to be leaking above the injectors. any other possiblities? i will check all of the above again though. Cheers
  19. Hi all, as the title sugests i have oil weeping from around the base of my injectors. it's a 96 300tdi with 76.000 on. the side of the head and block was covered, so i applied some jizer and jet washed the engine. this cleaned it up nicely. went for a short drive and when i got back the oil was definatly coming from near the base of the injectors. just cant quite tell where from. has anyone had similar problems? and know how to fix it? thanks in advance.
