  1. I was under the impression that land rover bearings are fully floating, so loads of grease is not necessary, as once you have done a few miles the bearing should run in EP 80/90. Correct me if i am wrong because i have just built a bearing up myself. Timken are good and the cleaner things are the better. HTH
  2. I have Blaupunkt thin lines 4" speakers (given to me not purchased) and these still don't fit, so be careful ordering special slim line speakers. I would just make or buy spacers to be honest. HTH
  3. Plumbers silicone grease, i use it for the fitting of all hoses.
  4. I would just try playing around with the pressures until your happy, special tracks are not renowned for there grip in the wet. You would need a more road biased tyre for better grip. HTH
  5. Thanks for all the comments. Cooper are a popular brand over here so will have a closer look at their range, as are maxxis so any recommendations from them would be good. The old adage goes 'a narrow tyre performs better in snow'. This is why i was initially thinking 235/85/16. But from the info people are providing here 255, or 265 seem to be a popular choice. Is there any real advantage to a narrower tyre in snow?
  6. How do you rate your 235's Dave k? As apposed to the 7.50's.
  7. Sorry my mistake, they are all 7.50 / 16.
  8. I have 205/ 7.50/ 16, and don't like the fact that they are worn out! two michelin and two firestone M+S.
  9. Retro, thanks for the link, have seen it before and found it very useful to compare tyre sizes etc. Was really looking for first hand experience from people running this size of tire, either on road or off road. As i have posted in the defender section of the forum i thought my vehicle would be obvious, that coupled with my avatar. It's a 110 defender CSW 92 200tdi in white. I probably spend 80% of my time driving on roads Carry loads of timber on the roof due to my occupation I live in the alps so snow in the winter is a regular driving condition Form should follow function (but looks don't hurt) Have standard suspension, although would like to upgrade to OE HD rear springs at some point. would like to achieve a bit more ground clearance, with slightly higher gearing as i occasionally do a run or two to Geneva airport on the motorway. But on the flip side there is plenty of off road driving to be had around here. Hope the extra info helps with peoples replies. And Bogmonster, i did find that quite amusing! Yes i am planning on tying John and Edward up, whoever they are, but was thinking more on the lines of rolling my old tyres at them from the top of a hill, a bit like a game of human skittles! Cheers Rusty
  10. will I be good for clearence etc? with either a 235 or 255.
  11. What do people think of 235/85/16 tyres? Good or Bad? Pros, cons?
  12. P.S Wish i could get a decent pint here, would kill for a pint of landlord.
  13. Check your owner's manual, it's in there under the Recommended Lubricants, Fluids and Capacities section[/i] Thanks Retro. You know sometimes you just need someone to point the obvious out. Although this is the first defender i have owned that has come with a manual, so i'll let myself off!! Many thanks.
  14. Hi All, as the topic suggests. Does anyone know how many Ltrs of coolant a 200 tdi defender should take? Cheers rusty.
  15. Have been soaking it for the last couple of days with WD40. It's the top three bolts that are the problem, two of them have open backs and these seem to be well and truely fast, the other is top right bolt, this seems to go in to the block. Can't comment on the latter but the other two bolts must only be 50mm max in length if that! It's always the simple things that are the biggest hassle. Has anyone had similar troubles? Cheers
  16. Hi again, thanks for your replies Les and Marco. still struggling to get the bolts out! Any more suggestions? They are really seized. Will it be ok to apply some heat?? And if one of them does shear off, do i need to drill the remaining bolt out and use a thread extractor?? Thanks in advance.
  17. Well hit a snag, the usual seized bolts on the water pump, top three. Don't want to force them to much, as can't bare to shear them. Any advice? Normally I would apply some heat to a seized bolt, would it be ok to use this method on the water pump? Cheers Rusty
  18. Hi all, finally about to fit my new water pump. Thing is i don't have a torque gauge, should i worry about how tight i do the bolts/nuts up? bearing in mind that i am not a ham fist-ed hillbilly, no offence to ham fist-ed hillbilly's!
  19. Thanks everyone, can get on and sort it out now. Think I'll just try a cheapy, I know,'buy cheap, buy twice' but needs must. Not sure about the chisel though, which part did you thwack! lol
  20. Guess I'll just buy new one. Are the cheap ones any good? and does anyone know what size spanner i need for the viscous coupling? Any help much appreciated, really need to get the 110 back on the road. Cheers
  21. Hi, check out simmonites. They have/had a 110 for sale with a rag top. Looks smart, got a £13.000 price tag too!! Some may recognise it from a another recent post.
  22. Hi All, Had been noticing for the last couple of weeks that coolant has been dripping from the water pump on my 92 200 tdi 110. Have been keeping a eye on it, but when i got home today it was really poring out. It appears to be coming from the centre. Is it best to replace the the entire pump, or can they be refurbed?? If replacing whats good and whats not, seen them priced from £120 to £30. Any advice is well appreciated. Have tried searching the tech archive and there doesn't seem to be anything on this. Cheers Rustynuts.
  23. Haven't heard much about them myself, but did you spot this?
  24. Hi, just put a straight bulkhead in aft of the rear doors and alpine windows. Thats the beauty of a defender, you can do all sorts with the body work. No need to have a proper double cab roof, just chop yours!
