  1. Hi,

I've got a leaking fuel tank, looks to be coming from the top somewhere as it only happens when I fill the truck right up.

Has anyone had the diesel tank off of a 200tdi 110? is it all done from underneath? any tips to make this go smoothly? should I change the filler neck while I am there.

Can any one give me the part number for the correct tank please.

    Thanks Mark

  2. We've just returned from Scotland and had a good day driving the logging tracks in the Galloway national park, it is also a dark skies park so wild camping is good there.

There is also a nice beach just outside Dunbar where we have wild camped a couple of times.

  3. So, having forked out over £100 for RTC 6065 a plastic bag has arrived with an assortment of fixings, trouble is mine were so badly rusted that some bits had disintegrated while others had to be cut off. I now have no real idea of how this lot is meant to fit together, does any one have a schematic please or can someone at least give me some pointers how it all goes?

    Thanks Mark

  4. Thanks everyone

I suppose a couple of questions. Are you running a completely stock Tdi now? If not, then you may just want to tune the injector pump and fit a bigger intercooler. Lots of choice on intercoolers if you don't mind a bit of fab work.

This represents very good value for money given the return in performance.

Next up, what do you actually want to achieve with the engine? Because above and beyond injector pump tuning and a bigger intercooler. Most other mods will be expensive and may not yield as noticeable results, certainly a far lower £/HP ratio.

So you have to consider, are there simply better options for more power?

Personally I love the Tdi's, but if you really want more than say 120-135hp (max 150hp), then you are better off using a different engine. An engine swap might sound like a bigger project and more costly. But once you add up all the bits you're likely to do on a Tdi, then I suspect the costs are a lot closer. And done correctly, an engine swap will massively exceed the Tdi.

I'm running a stock 200tdi, which I like but would like to spread the power band and have a bit more oomph on hills. I'm not in for swapping to a different type of engine but not above having an engine overhaul.

  5. Looks like a great trip :)

I'm assuming it was a bit chilly, given the proximity to the fire

Cold at night but we were really lucky with the weather during the day.

Was that one of the organised tours they're doing over there now?

No I arranged it myself, looking at what people charge for organised tours perhaps I should get into the business LOL, although I can understand the need for local Knowledge and a native speaker if going to some far off hostile land!

  6. Hi guys,

I'm planning a trip to Ireland in the summer, following a large part of the Wild Atlantic Way. Just wondering if anyone can recommend any good off-roading along that route. I'm trying to decide whether to take my Disco, or stick with the comfort and economy of my regular car.

Any thoughts or experiences there greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

I'm planning a club trip to do this next summer so would be interested to hear how you get on.

  7. Lots of great info and helpful suggestions - thank you everyone.

I'm actually putting back our travel date - it was going to be the end of April, but a number of things have made that not ideal - so we are rescheduling for September. Which gives me more time to plan and to take all these suggestions onboard :)

I'm leading a group across the French Alps at the end of Aug, I'll let you know how it goes, where are you going?

  8. The earlier axle is stronger - the half shafts are thicker, the drive flange tougher, the splines on the flange and shaft are longer (more contact spread) and wet. The wheel bearings are the same, but spaced wider, giving more strength on side loads (slopes and cornering), and are also wet rather than merely greased. I'm content with having modified an early 110 axle as opposed to finding a 300 type, but I'm sure the later axles work fine (I would remove the stub axle seal to allow the oil into the drive flange splines and wheel bearings, though, and seal the plastic cap with RTV.

Thanks for the reply, this is the rout I've decided to go down.
