  1. What seems to get regularly forgotten in threads like these is that rugged off road ability, endless reliability and outstanding build quality don't have to be mutually exclusive with luxury and sophistication. Toyota manage it without issue.

Sadly Toyota has withdrawn their largest land cruiser (the 200) from the uk market due to dwindling sales, but elsewhere in the world they are the first choice for an executive 4x4.

In my role I regularly get feedback on Disco 3/4 and Land Cruiser 200 from users and fleet managers alike. Whilst the users love the disco it's widely loathed by fleet management due to the incredibly poor reliability - even in the UK where there is excellent dealer support I have heard managers say they cannot keep them on the road, and you can imagine the situation in Africa and further afield. The Land Cruisers on the other hand just keep going - we have some @ over 200,000km in under 5years running at 4.5tonne kerb weight and in the worst environments, any failures we see are largely down to aftermarket fittings.

For me, if Land Rover want any of Toyota's global market share they need to look long and hard and the quality of workmanship and reliability of their products.

  2. I've got this Noco Genius charger

Again, not cheap, but intelligent, 12/24volt, remembers it's setting after losing mains power, conditions the batteries too. I bought it on the strength of having a lot of them at work and being impressed by their thorough idiot proof-ness

They do cheap/lower output ones too.

My customer uses CTEK MXS7.0's, they seem comparable in price, features and output

  3. We fit around 600 General Grabber AT2's a year to new vehicles, and have done since around 2009, we also supply about 400 a year for vehicles already in service.

I've driven them on and off road on various continents, in all weathers, and never had an issue. I only get good reports from the users.

We are running at between 4000kg and 5200kg gvw with ~60psi pressures

From personal experience of defender ownership I'd suggest any vagueness in the handling is probably down to the vehicle, not the tyre :)

  4. One of my mates had a K&N filter on the end of his snorkel. it was alright at first until it rained and absorbed a load of water which strangled the engine, he then put a little rain cover over the top of it. Later it got a decent splash on it whilst wading and flooded the engine, he's changed to an OE filter box now
