I had an N reg 306 d turbo years ago with a number key pad immobiliser, hardly cutting edge!
Also, just checked with a colleague - the code is the same on all JCB products
-
Agreed - there is a bit of a difference between todays machine and a fergie
Okay, it's been six years since I worked on the farm, but when I did we had new, state of the art tractors and telehandlers, none of them had an immobiliser, and none of them had unique keys.
The only immobiliser I ever encountered was on a 1997 JS200LC tracked excavator - and that was an aftermarket jobbie which was next to useless
A JCB key fits all JCB's, a case key fits all case, a Valtra key all valtra's, likewise all of the other brands.
Have a quick look on eBay at the amount of sellers listing "plant key" and "farm key" bundles where you get one key for each brand. Machinery is all keyed alike. Any of you that think tractors or plant is hard to steal needs to think again

Same ^^^^
I've extensively repaired and rebuilt the RHF chassis leg on my 90

Have you got the right thread? Surely that belongs in the "pass the bucket" eBay thread?
-
Given that most start with a Lucas key I'd say not at all
-
That's a very interesting post Simon, thank you for taking the time to give that information

Want!
How much £ you asking?

This ^^^^
I'd like to know what works and what doesn't

Woah there! As Land Rover enthusiastic we are not supposed to encourage each other to sell our land rovers. We are supposed to egg each other on until every piece of real estate we own is completely filled with land rovers, until our spouses are sick of the damn things, we are borderline bankrupt and we own more cars than the local dealership!

i am not really sure what bellhousing i have got on mine but its still on its original LT77 from when it was a 2.5TD if that helps
If it's the original gearbox it's the short bellhousing type

As re-guards the fan i understand that the fan sits close to the power steer box so once the engine is in place and if there is enough on the blades i will look at trimming them down to suite, or it mite be a long shot but try and find out if there is another ( smaller ) fan out there with the same fitting at the tdi fan or if not fit an electric fan
As per my reply to your PM, the discovery 200tdi fan does not foul the steering box in any way shape or form when using the short bellhousing LT77 in the original position

When my timing was slightly out I got a lot of white smoke when cold, no blue though

Hi lewis, really like that tubular steering Guard. That's exactly what I mean!
Is that guard your own creation? Is that truck on the road?
Yes to both questions

I lol'd

Oops, sorry, that'll teach me to read properly before posting

The rubber seal around the thermostat should keep your engine water tight when you do the swap; there is no gasket in the joint.
There should be a gasket, item 3 on the link below
-
What you are proposing is almost exactly what I have done with mine
I found the guard for the drop arm was important as I kept killing drop arm ball joints as that was the furthest forward part of the car
As you can see, I cut the dumbirons right back, and had to reshape the chassis rails too
The bumper bolts ended up just under the grill, and the winch is well back

Good write up, would be a useful addition to the tech archive

Once you have the CCJ against them go straight for a High Court judgement, it only costs £60 and that cost and the costs of enforcing the judgement are added to the fund being recovered, plenty of info on Wikipedia

I don't care enough to look myself, but if any of you are keen enough the MOT test manual is available online @ a .gov site.
Largely the enforcement of this change in legislation will rely on the testers knowledge of whether a vehicle should have a cat or not, so I suspect most people will continue to pass MOT without them for a while longer yet

I have no direct experience rebuilding Ashcroft CV's but I would try the bell in the oven at 60degrees and the spider in the freezer for a couple of hours, then see if it'll just drop in then.
I've had success with this technique on other things before
