Super thanks. That's all good stuff. I've been doing this on my phone all evening so once I get chance tomorrow ill post a proper reply. I have more than the spares listed. So are 110 props avail in aus? Its is over 12 months in though. In fact its the 3rd continent on the current plan.
Yeah all parts are amiable in Aus. We have 110's and some 90's but did not start selling the 90 until 2003 and then stopped in 2005 and now restarted selling the 90's. But due to aus being so big and you can drive a track/road ( most of the roads in the center of aus are tracks) for days and days without seeing anyone. Take the track from Kal to Ayres rock. It is 1200 miles long with one fuel stop and we traveled it and saw one other person the whole time along the track . There was no mobile coverage , no radio stations and no tv . In fact nothing so pretty much on your own . So just need parts so you can struggle to a main town , which in that case is Alice Springs which is another 300 miles the other side of Ayres Rock. My rear brake pipe broke on this track due to the bad corrugations. So I used the fuel tank repair putty to block of the brakes and ran for 500 miles on three barked to Alics Springs

I might have missunderstood a bit. Soz
Both. Dirt and tarmac. I would say a good proportion of it will be very bad track. So am I going mad are halfshafts front to back common on one side.
Front axle half shafts are different to rear axel half shafts. I did not take any with me
You are better of driving around any problem or fitting a winch and taking a ground anchor and winching out of anything too bad instead of going mad with the red mist. When you are touring it is not a race or competition to get threw the biggest mud hole. It is more about survival and presivation of the truck and your life. So don't risk it normal land rover size Tyres with a good set of BFG AT are a good set of touring Tyres

i'm toying with taking a few more spares on the trip. I have space for them and am not over weight.
I have UJs for both props as they are different sizes.
Should i take a prop? If so both, one or neither?
I have flanges but no CV or shafts.
Should i take some shafts and a CV.
What do you think? Is there some commonality between half shafts ? i.e front also fits rear?
Ok coming into this a bit late and not knowing where you are going then I will tell you what I took with me on my trip around Australia. Where there is no dealerships really to talk of out side the 6 major towns. And more importantly no communication for days and days of travel so are on you own
I took UJ's 3 off
1 reart prop as I had a 90 and they did not do them in aus so I would never find 1 off them in aus
1 CV
1Stub axle
2 sets of bearings( with gaskets )
Slave cylinder
Clutch master master
Viscous fan unit
Water pump
Prop shaft bolts,
Spare wheel nuts
Fuse and full pack of electrical connectors
Master brake cylinder
Full set of brake pads
Full set of fan belts
And all the oils need for engine , gearbox, steering and transfer box
That is about it but came back with most but would take the same again
Most useful thing was fuel tank repar putty. Can be used for lots of things. Over the years I have used it for repairing fuel tanks , holes on the axles casing, rads and to block of broken brake lines

Where are you going on you trip
-
Already spent two years doing that Tanuki. you might not be aware but we are leaving for 2 years at least.
Can anyone offer advice on the actual question in hand.
Where are you going as that can depend on what you take, are you going on dirt or Tarmac

I have a spare 200Tdi engine that has undergone a serious renovation. The machine shop, that really didn't know exactly what they were doing, also skimmed the block. Now I need the thickest headgasket in the range.
I have found two part numbers listed - ERR7154 and LVB500230. The latter is stated as "multi shim steel" at LRDirect while LRSeries just states that ERR7154 has been superseeded by this one.
So, which one should I go for?
Nether
Go into a land rover dealer and ask for a 200 tdi gasket and the one with the most holes and they will give you the thickest one. They are pretty cheap gen
Last time I bought one they were £14

Perfect for the UK market then!
Your right their not
BUT That would be because they are designed for the Australian market where sun is a lot more often than rain

has anyone got any GOOD photos of an Eezi Awning and sides. How the sides fix on. How all the clips are positioned. Close up of that kind of stuff. Lots and lots of them.
I'm not going to pay hundereds on something that might be complete tosh and let water in and be no good at all. Even APB have failed to supply me with any usefull images.
So help....if you have one. Please put it up and make me very happy by taking some photos. I'll owe you a beer at the next show.
THANKS.
ps. I can accept 25meg emails but if you send me loads of 10meg emails with high res pics i'll not be upset. I'll be very happy in fact !
Well if you are talking about the side awnings then they fit to the roof rack. But they are not designed to stop water they are designed to provide a shaded area away from the sun. They will be water proof on the top but don't expect it not to come in between the roof rack and roof of the car. And again the side bits are to stop the late after noon sun not sidewards rain
The ARB awnings are very good and I have been looking at one but the only thing for me is that I don't like having a roof rack on all the time
Every ARB shop has a truck with them on in the middle of their show rooms and are well made.

Thanks for the pic, I wasn't sure. Any idea of prices for that light?
They are all the thing, over here for spot lights a lot better than the old kind so they say
Vary in price depending on how long you Go for , but not cheap, but may get cheaper over the years
Here are some price no that cheap but may be even more for you at the moment with the good exchange rate ( for )
Some good vids of them on there too

Ok may be you did not know what i was talking about
Here they are on a 110

I thought the intake was on the drivers side for a 300tdi I could be wrong though...it has been known
It is I have 2 300 tdi defenders a 90 and 110 and both of them have the intake on the drivers side along with every other 300 tdi. I think he is getting confused as it is The 200 tdi that has it on the passenger side

I never get bored of reading the 'it's a ringer threads, and it may help people avoid buying somthing they don't want!
So.....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1990-LAND-ROVER-defender-double-cab-130-bonatti-grey-/130523962977
I see td5 rear x-member for a start, air intake on the wrong side and late model windscreen hinges.
To be fair to the guy, he really doesn't sound like he has a clue about what he's got.
I must be missing something but 300 tdi's air in take is on the drivers side as it is with this truck

Hi all
Bit of advice before I go done the local ARB shop and buy some
What do you lot think of them, are they as good as a pair of KC's and or other normal spot lights or better
Was thinking of one 12" or may be 2 . Although the 40" lots pretty cool . But a bit pricey too

We have ARB lockers on a contest vehicle and lost front drive during an event last Sunday.
Having pulled the drive shafts, which were considered to be the culprits at the time, they are in good order.
When I stripped the diff down I found that the diff casing has sheared from its flange which bolts to the crown wheel.
Has anyone seen or heard of this before?
Many thanks
Steve
Yeah did it twice in my winch challenge 90 about 6 years ago when I had a Kam 4.75 crown wheel

I am going to paint my garage floor red with black squares under where the defenders park ( to hide the oil marks)
Dulux do garage floor paint kits which look like they have all the stuff to do it and seem not too much money
My garage is 7 m by 8 m
As I work in the flooring industry I would not put carpet in a garage. When you drive the car in from the rain the water will make the carpet mouldy Best carpet is out door carpet which cost a fortune and will still show oil leaks and catch fire when grinding
The secret to painting the floor is to clean the concrete with acid first and then let the paint drive before you drive the car on it , that means a few days at least This will mean you won't get the Tyres taking the paint back off again

Doubt there are many pools in Scotland....puddles maybe....pools probably not....hehe
Far point but pretty much every house in my street has one here :-)
-
I used the acid from my pool to clean it ( hydrochloric acid)
Bit of pool acid does it great and makes it ready for painting
Plus pretty cheap for 5 Ltrs from the pool shop

Do you have an oil leak or steering box leak. As the oil can ruin bushes

Got an iPhone ?
If so use the apps for finding free wi fi

They're probably shipping over in bulk, then re-distributing, surely?
Even so, it is a good deal, too much of a comic for me though....
As said not the greatest mag
But in the shops here in Aus it is normally $9 a copy. So for $100 I get 26 copy's. So even if it is the yellow pages for land rovers still not too bad to read Now and again
Any I am dyslexic so I just look at the pictures anyway
-
LRO have a subscription deal at the moment where you buy one year for £55 and you get another year for free. Not too bad, not the greatest mag but this make it pretty cheap
BUT they have the same deal for here in Australia priced at £65 which make it stupidly cheap as each mag will cost them about £5 - £8 each to post. And with the two year deal that is 26 mags delivered to you. They do 13 issues a year .
So with the value of the pound or rather the lack of it . This makes this even more of a too true to be real deal here in Aus . So a lot of Aussie have taken this deal up. A lot on AULRO
I do understand that the more subscribers then the more they can charge for advertising but surly not at a loss
Don't understand it , going to cost them a fortune

Ok for vehicles with bulkheads behind the seats but what about those without?
Just know most of their stuff is pretty expensive
