  1. ok....ive spoken to Terrafirma and they say it just is like that once you raise the COG.... Also asked if I fitted castor correction radius arms........ What are they.....do i need to change them.....its all so technical....what kind of a dark world have I joined???? Im sure an answer will come....thanks all Neil.
  2. Thanks very much.....i'll look into them then Neil.
  3. Current springs are new....i just dont like the way the thing feels like a boat....think im gonna fall out the window on some bends and roundabouts!!
  4. As previously stated I want to swap my blue bearmach springs for something stiffer but the garage I use told me unless I pay for very expensive springs I cant get a 2" lift with stiff springs??? Can anyone confirm that? Or does anybody know of a stiffer spring that gives the lift. Maybe i should just revert to standard height but firmer.
  5. Ive just been speaking to David at Llama 4x4, regarding the axle breather kit he supplies, explained my position and he told me NOT to buy the kit.... He says that my existing breathers will do nicely, Ive checked and they are all there...well except the timing cover breather but he doesnt think that will be a problem in this instance, just fit a wading plug and then remove it after the event. Bizarre sales technique but one which means I will go back to him again in the future.....Honesty...we like honesty
  6. I had springs and shocks replaced on mine (87 def 90)and have had the softer off road springs, with a 2" lift (its using DeCarbon shocks). However, Im now about to change them again as I find the ride far too soft on the road, theyve only been on about 6 months and done about 200 miles but i just cannot get used to them being so soft. Im sure they are great off road, which is what i asked for (and never used for that as yet as i was doing other jobs on the car)but i just cant be doing with them on the road..... try and drive one with the softer springs before you commit....it might just be me!!! Neil.
  7. When Ive finished on the Mac challenge and have finished causing any damage I might do, the intention is to buy nice shiny new doors. Would it be advisable to purchase new lock strikers at the same time then to make sure???? Im hoping to refurb the vehicle this year and make it loook all gorgeous and lovely. Apparantly my daughter wants it for herself when its finished.....fortunately I have a bit of time as she is only 10 still. mind you....be a nice safe first car wont it!!!! Neil
  8. That sounds good too.....still new here.....so will it fit my 87 def 90? I would assume so else you wouldnt have offered....thank you also Again, let me know of postage so i can reimburse you and I will add a donation to my charity funds. I had noticed a lot of kindness and offers of help, this forum could teach many lessons to the other forums (non Land rover) out there. I have been members of several of them. Neil.
  9. Well once again, thank you......as im only buying one to go on the mac 4x4 challenge i will make a donation to the charity if its there. Look out....is that real bona fide decency of another human being!!!! Cheers neil.
  10. Thank you...that would be great....Let me know if you find it and how much you would like for it. Im only in Peterborough so could arrange to meet you and collect it if thats ok. thanks again Neil.
  11. Thats great....thank you tons Its easy to just put it in a garage for these jobs but most of them seem simple so Im sure I can manage Neil.
  12. Hi all, Im trying to decide on a steering guard...I sort of feel I wont need one (Mac 4x4)but dont want to be sat at the side of the road beating myself with a birch twig for not fitting one.... So, any suggestions....better yet...is there a spare one out there in a garage that someone is thinking of throwing away or selling. (I would place a wanted post but I dont qualify yet so I hope Im not offending anyone) Thank you.
  13. Thank you sir, Easy job?? Can I go wrong and cause issues with tracking?? Neil.
  14. Evenin' all, Simple bimple question Im sure..... I had some standard white defender wheels fitted with some BF AT tyres and on full right lock there is a rubbing noise which I am informed is the tyre rubbing on the lock stops.....i think. Does this make sense to everyone and what do I do to stop it...is it a scientific thing so it drives straight or just a few turns of a spanner on a nut somewhere... Many thank you's neil.
  15. Im liking the look of that set up from llama......very neat. Will be investigating that a bit closer on monday when all the companies have quite finished having holidays....... Thanks very much for that, and all the other info that this thread has gained.
  16. I fitted a MSS (mobile storage system)cubby box, expensive but good, i havent noticed a slope but it did have a good arrangement of spacers and bolts etc so that may be why. Sometimes expensive is better maybe.....though not often. neil.
  17. I had a snorkel fitted when I had the engine replaced. I doubt the garage would have made the effort and run the axle breathers to the snorkel for me would they?
  18. thanks for that. i'd better get them sorted
  19. I was just trawling through ebay to see if anything exciting was on there that I might just need. I came across an axle breather kit. Do I need to have one of these fitted or is it just one of those items that are out there to get you to buy it but you dont really need it. Im off on the Mac 4x4 in March and have no idea what that entails. For the sake of a few pounds I dont want to be having watery problems, so is it a worthy investment? Are there other wading issues I may need to protect my 90 from? Thank you. Neil.
  20. Hi, If you want to go crazy mad and no expense spared the stuff from mobile storage systems is good, but......expensive. Neil. (I recently bought one of their cubby boxes from the LRO show at Peterborough and although I spent ages dithering due to the cost, Im well pleased. The quality is excellent......just an opinion)
  21. Hi All, Hope everyone has had a good christmas and may I wish you all a happy new year. It occurs to me that I may be one of those types that has joined the forum and asked questions without posting pics of my toy!! So hopefully there are 1 or 2 here, this is after having had the petrol bit whipped out and a diesel 200 put in. I bought mine to go on the Mac 4x4 later this year and decided that the petrol lump was just not going to get me through Anyway, I have a bit of a strange problem, my temp gauge seems to show the engine getting cooler, or even cold, the longer its run, when I apply the handbrake the lights seem to get a bit brighter.....somebody said it could be an earthing fault. It was there before the engine swap so I dont believe it to be since the garage did the work. Any ideas as to what could be the problem and if it is an earthing fault, any ideas where to start. Many thanks Neil. Try this link, it should take you to photbucket and the pictures are there, mostly of the engine but there are a couple of the vehicle itself I think. http://photobucket.com/LR90
  22. Just out of interest, whereabouts are you? It may be worth you popping along to an overland prep company and seeking their advice. Thats what i did, fooloishly or wisely...who knows...too late now though and I believe they were fair with me all the way along. i use them to service my Nissan and they have just done all the work on my defender too and I cant rate them highly enough, their advice was sound all the way along and every time I asked them about extra bits they either said yes of course your the customer or they said dont be so silly etc etc. Like I said, I feel they were fair with me at all times and will always go back to them now. There are plenty of the overland prep companies about so there is likely to be one near you. Neil.
  23. Hi, Im very new on here and new to Land Rovers. I bought an 87 plate Defender to do the Macmillan 4x4 challenge in, thinking I would just buy an old one and slowly get it ready for the trip. Fortunately for me the chassis is in excellent condition but I have already spent a lot of money replacing the suspension and brakes and swapping the engine to a 200Tdi (previously petrol)..... My point is, that with the best will in the world, buying an old one to restore or rebuild will cost far more than you budget for, it just seems to escalate beyond reality and you just get drawn in. Dont get me wrong, I dont regret it or resent a penny but it just amazes me how fast the money streams out. Im hugely satisfied with what I have now which is lucky as I now intend to take it overland to Corsica too. If you have the money to buy a newer one in really good condition then i would think that that is the sensible option, but like I say......Im new here!!!! There is a wealth of knowledge on here but the bottom line is.......you have to make that final decision, would I change the way I went....not a chance, Ive loved watching my car come to pieces and then go back together again but it is time consuming and expensive. Best of luck with your decision Neil.
  24. OOPS sorry, didnt realise it was link, worked it out now. thanks again. Neil.
  25. Thanks a lot, very precise i have to say. (is that a land rover part number) many thanks for your help Neil.
