  1. I used YRM for my seatbox repair (usual ally corrosion). The replacement side went in a treat, really impressed.
  2. Thanks all, for your straightforward replies. Looks like I need to really consider what I want to do with a welder. Some more time thinking and cost a few things out. Thanks for your answers, Jon
  3. Thanks for that. I won't waste my money at B&Q or ALDI then. I've seen some of the threads, very interesting. I suppose I can do ally & ss with MIG then, just the the correct gas ? Can one gas do all metals ? I did see on youtube, due to the soft ally wire and feed problems, the guy had a spool gun on the top part of the nozzle ? Would this be worth getting ?
  4. As the title says really. During my apprenticeship (over 25 years ago ), I really used to enjoy arc welding and gas welding with oxy-aceteline. I would really like to get back into hobby welding on my landie, you know the odd chassis plate, bulkhead repair etc, but would also like to have a go at fabricating an ally header tank (just for the hell of it ) and maybe for a friend or two, but maybe some stainless exhaust fabrication . I do see theres a lot of MIG suggestions but not a lot of TIG. I scanned youtube for both, is it because MIG is auto wire feed ie one-handed and TIG requires a filler rod ? I dont want to spend ££££'s just to get started, so are the MIG, gas and gasless you see in ALDIs, B&Q etc any good based on what I want to do ? Any advice would be helpful, thanks in advance, Jon
  5. I agree with V8freak. Fit a V8 . Very toaaastieeee!!
  6. I agree with Mike444, buy a sportscar, a nissan or something, or as suggested a BOWLER.
  7. I suppose the same applies regarding the "w" to a V8? my 90 has a 3.5 Efi from an '88 RRC. What tacho would you recommend for a V8??
  8. I replaced my flasher unit last year, and now the trailer light flashes all the time with the idiotcators , but at least they work now.
  9. Aahhhh!!!! A nickname then, like the Ford Focus ST - ASBO
  10. Sorry, but whats a puma , apart from a big cat??
  11. Looking really good. Excuse my ignorance on ragtops, but is that clingfilm inside the canvas?? Cheers, Jon
  12. Halfrauds do a range of plastic bungs. I think they're by the electrical bits. If your hole is too small drill out to a size where the plastic bung will be a tight fit. Once in, they do sit pretty flush.
  13. On the question of new chassis, how do you get on with the chassis No? do you get a new one, or re-use the old? Any ideas? Do you inform the DVLA? Cheers, Jon
  14. OUT, although this does go against the ISO belly button convention, where an" inny" is the norm.
  15. Yes Western, thats the one I'm going on!! As you can see it says off-road insurance "essential". But that doesn't mean compulsory though, does it?? I'm still waiting for Flux to get back to me, and also Firebond!! I wonder it I am covered my my "normal" insurance , under pleasure?? I've got a month to sort things so lets see.
  16. Hi All, I'm going on the forestry commission 4x4 drive @ Cannock on 4th Aug. They say off-road insurance essential, I've checked with my current insurers and I'm only covered for normal road use. Can anyone recommend "off-road" insurance companies? I've tried Sureterm-greenlane only, waiting for A.Flux to phone back tomorrow, any ideas guys?? Cheers, Jon
  17. First time at a Landy show in our 90 V8 auto. Into the unknown, fuel consumption , a run on the motorway , intermediate offroad course , difflock, hi-low , scrutineers , etc. Absolutely enjoyed my first offroad experience , fanatstic venue, not too muddy, superb weather and the 90 performed faultlessly . The show was a little dissappointing, compared to other shows i've been to , especially when I built my Westfield and went to the Stoneleigh Kitcar show, good trade stands and excellent club stands all well attended. Compared with the number of trade adverts in the mags, the number of land rovers owned and worldwide popularity of landrover I was suprised how small the show was. But I will probably go next year, if only to do the offroad course. Just a small point, haven't Landrover International mag done this show previously, whereas this year it was Landrover World mag??
  18. Cheers Western, Job done then - I think, Just need to sort the indicators out now........ AGAIN!!! Cheers, Jon
  19. After reading some of the horror stories, and having had my landy since Nov last year, I've invested in a grease gun, tubes of grease, and my personal favourite - extra-long nipples, all from Difflock. The came today and I've greased the props and UJs. The front and rear props only appear to have one grease nipple at each end - is this right?? While I was greasing the UJs, the grease appeared to ooze out where it connects to the yoke-Is this correct?? I'm going to Eastnor on Sunday, don't want a prop or UJ to break. Any advice welcome. Cheers, Jon
  20. I was going to use stainless steel washers and nyloc nuts/bolts, then did a search on t'internet and found out that the electrolytic action is worse between ally/ss than "normal" steel. So used Zinc plated instead. Apparently most yachts have all masts that run down into the hull and locate into a ss fixing, but but both metals are well isolated/ insulated from each other. The corrosion in accelerated in damp/wet/marine applications..............................................................appare tly!!
  21. Thanks for all the suggestions. It sounds like a fuse box thing. I'll try the fixesand see what happens. Cheers guys, Jon
  22. Good afternoon fellas, I have some sort of intermittent fault. The indicators all work but the dash light doesn't. The fog light doesn't work. Had a look at the fuses, all ok. took them out ,put them back. Then the fog light worked . The indicators then bacame intermittent sometimes they worked sometimes they didn,t. Checked fuses, all ok. Then indicators worked inc the dash light, but then the foglight now doesn't work . Do you think its dodgy wiring behind the fuse box. All gauges seem ok, headlights, brake lights all seem ok, except for indicators occassionally and no foglight. And yes before anyone says I know indicators are intermittent ON, OFF, ON, OFF etc etc Any advice would be appreciated, Haapy easter, Cheers, Jon
  23. The budget. What do you know?? When they say Gas Guzzlers, have we got any details yet?? Engine size, vehicle age?? I drive an'87 V8 90. What does this mean?? Anyone?? Please excuse me if this should have been a more general LR question. Cheers, Jon.
