  1. I think it's a very strange business model JLR have got themselves into.

Out of interest, I have just gone on Autotrader, selected Land Rover, New, £40k to £50k.

Results= Defender 110, Evoque, Velar, Discovery, Discovery Sport.

Subjectively they all do a very similar job, just differing size and bling levels.

In essence, what I am trying to say is their model range is competing against itself.

  2. I am enjoying this thread, although in essence its says as much about the membership of this forum as it does about the new vehicle.

I think a lot of us on here are hopeless romantic optimists harking to days past when life was simpler.

In a world where MP's don't take any notice of their electorate and ringfenced state pension funds are Maxwelled by the government, this new Defender could've been a helluva lot worse.

I would go as far as to say it could remove our reasons for having 2 vehicles.

I like a lot on here have a second daily and a 110(currently in component form).

But the new Defender looks like it would serve daily duties, nipping to the tip, camping, family stuff and a fair crack at off roading.

So, it may not justify a second vehicle for daily duties as it covers all bases, which I expect was the design brief.

Looks like JLR just shafted us all....... and then the price!

  3. I think the pass of the cattle has got to be included.

    A169 Pickering to Whitby.

    Hardknott pass.

    Strines Moor A6013 through Wigtwizzle.

    B1363 Sutton Bank to Easingwold.

    Llanberis pass.

    West coast road of Mull.

    All memorable.

  4. I have stripped and cleaned my 300tdi injectors in the past.

Used petrol to remove the bulk of the muck.

Then bought a cheap ultrasonic cleaner from aldi or lidl and gave them 20 minutes in that.

Reassembled using diesel as a lubricant.

    Maybe worth fitting new nozzles.

Just make sure they are genuine Bosch as i haven't heard good things about the chinese variants.

  5. Killiechronan campsite on Mull is brilliant if lacking in facilities. You camp a few metres from the sea. No showers but there is a public swimming pool not too far away with sauna etc. Its has floor to ceiling glass with view over the sea with the mountains behind.

I had an interesting time there, caravan electrics failed before we reached Scotland, fixed in a B&Q car park in Penrith.

Flat tyre after landing on Mull, spare was perished. Had to wait 3 days for caravan tyres to Mull.

Landed on Skye 3 miles later downpipe sheared off. Rang RAC who informed me i was only covered within 10 miles of home.

Luckily they contacted a local garage who ended up welding it for £50.

2 miles before Applecross i pulled over to let a car pass. Didnt realise at the time but i had removed a corner of the caravan.

Got to Applecross campsite to be greeted by a shower of foam coming out of the caravans innards.

Opened the door to find a new floor covering had appearing made from instant coffee granules!

    Certainly was a memorable holiday.

  6. Hi.

I have had similar issues with my 300tdi 110 and got a used turbo.

Unfortunately the seal on the hot side had failed causing spectacular white smoke clouds behind and rapid loss of oil.

A friends wife works at a turbo reconditioners and I got quoted £300 at mates rates.

I am considering buying a new CHRA and installing that to my existing housing.

British built CHRA'S cost approx £150.

    Hope this helps.

    Chris.

  7. Thanks for the replies.

It has a lucas fuel pump and solenoid is on top, so easily accessible.

I removed the solenoid and the plastic pin dropped out.

It has a very thin cable originating from the cold start assembly.

On Sunday out of curiosity, I tried starting it without any electrical supply and behold it started.

This is probably due to the pin being damaged.

I'll try and locate a ignition live or maybe the feed from the alternator.

    Again many thanks.
