  1. 300tdi Defenders had the lower seals on the door bottom, the sill seals were changed to door bottom when 300tdi came on the market

you either need the stating ALR part numbers or the latest variant starting LR numbers

Dont know what to tell you Western, other than good old LR are at it again. My 1998 300Tdi 110, and mind you that is the last of the 300Tdi, not the first, has the sill seal rivited to the sill member NOT the door. This truck is original in this area.

I have already placed an order with Shop4Autoparts and they sourced genuine LR seals for the door frames. Current LRO24954, LRO24955 as these were what LR gave them to superseed my part#s ALR4936, ALR4937. lower sill seal both older ALR6250 and the latest as confirmed by part# LRO29309 which they say superseeds CFE500670. Problem is ALR6250 will be no good for my rusty doors. I will have to source MWC6130 from somewhere, which means two lots of shipping grrrrr.

  2. My thoughts are the hummer portal is a real portal due to the fact that the imput is higher than the output. Even with its independant suspension top and bottom links, the wheel center is lower than that of a normal independant suspesion driven axle. Also it allows the imput shaft to be at a flatter angle for a given ride height, which inturn is less angle at cvs = more better (thats the tech bit)

  3. Thanks for that info.

Im now confident in the LRO29309 part number being for the latest, upgraded sill seal that mounts to the bottom of the door on the latest Tdci 2.2 defenders. But Im still a little confused as to what is original fittment to my 1998 300Tdi 110 C/Chassis. I can tell you that it definitely has them fitted to the body and not the door, and I can also tell you my VIN ends in WA147###. According to the LR parts catalogue that is a sticky in this sub forum (110 1987 onwards) it shows:

    MWC6130 for upto VIN LA933876

    ALR6250 for VIN LA933877 onwards

is there an actual physical difference in these 2 seals? or did LR just stop fixing it to the body and then fix it to the door? I need to know ASAP as I have placed and order through a UK shop and got them to order the wrong types (by the looks of this thread). The seals are going to take a week to get in stock so hopefully I can correct it today.

    cheers

  4. hey all,

Im searching for new front door sill seals (genuine LR). For my 1998 300tdi 110, im coming up with part# ALR6250. Which I have found for approx 6 pound genuine. The same shop has MWC6130 listed for approx 20 pound genuine. Is there any difference?

I need the original ones that fix to the body. My doors are rusted. I will be replacing the doors and going to try the latest Tdic (puma) door sill seals, CFE500670, on these new doors. But for now I need the original.

    cheers

  5. caliper fluid seals between the 2 caliper half bodies are 17H8764L

    http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?xProd=78329

Not for all of them. These are the early type 110 front and RRC front. The 2 different gallery seals in my LR 110 calipers are both different to 17H8764L. Mine are the front: 3851-739 and rear RTC1137. You really have to strip your calipers and measure the seal to be sure. As with alot of LR there is no black and white date change.

Are they supposed to have metal inserts?? When i did my calipers on the 110, the gallery seals that came out and the replacements from the same link as the OP had no metal inserts.

To be honest, I dont know. This is the first pair I have stripped down, I cant be sure but i dont think these calipers have been apart before. I got them from a LR wrecker. The inserts do just pop out. I think it not a bad thing as it can stop the rubber seal colapsing on itself. I will be just cleaning mine and inserting them in the new seals.

  6. hello,

my 1998 110 C/chassis needs new door seals (only has front doors) . I have been reading how the latest Defender Tdci seals are an improvement on the old.

Can someone post part# for both

Does anyone know if the new will fit my vehicle, or indeed, not fit it?

    cheers,

  7. thanks for that Western.

I had already found your first link. The second one, IMO was mostly hearsay. I pulled my wheel and yep, 48spline which is 19mm OD at splines. The reason for confusion, was when the parts store I was asking, imputted my full VIN into EPC, it was coming up with a 900 quid black leather covered wheel....haha

So seems mine is just the normal ANR3231. This part number is super seeded by QTB502130

  8. hey all I have my 1998 110 300tdi brake calipers stripped and I need to source new gallery seals. From measuring them Im coming up with part#s Front: 3851-739 and Rear RTC1137. I have found them here:

    http://www.shop4autoparts.net/Defender/Brakes/Discs,Calipers-&-Drums/CALIPER_GALLERY_SEAL_12,6*13,4.html

My origial ones have a small tube (metall/copper) inside the rubber seal. The pic of the ones above dont. Is this just a difference in brand, or is it something I push out and re-use, or actually a different seal?

see my pic for my original seals.

  9. Hi Gremlin,

great work on the conversion. Am I correct in that you ended up using SIII rear 109 Sals stub axles? What hubs did you end up running? (it all got a bit confusing in there for me haha)

reason I ask is Im looking to convert my 300tdi 110 to the earlier, longer stubs and wider hubs (better bearing seperation). The front end is pretty easy on these as the earlier stuff is already disc. But for the rear, the last of the long stubs were drums. Obviously I already have the caliper mount and caliper. I just need to find what stub and hub to run (and what rotor...)

    cheers

  10. Hey all,

I know some have converted drum rear Sals to disc. But has anyone fitted earlier long stub axles and wider hubs to a later Disc rear end? If so what Hub so the a disc will work?

Im pretty sure the earlier Stub axle FRC8540 will bolt straight onto the housing flange. But im not sure if a disc rotor can be bolted to the drum hub? Or is another hub say off a RRC going to work?

yes other things will be needed like longer axle shafts and probably a custom drive flange to work, but thats easy if upgrading to HD safts etc. Lock nuts, spacers and hub nuts will need to be sorted but that is very easy.

    cheers
