  1. I get 33>34mpg, Ive checked every tank in the last 6k and that's doing an 80mile round trip to work everyday!
  2. I had the same argument, what to do about the 90 situation after the family grew from just the 2 of us to 4. The wife tried to get me to buy a 110 and considered it hard but I ddn't want to drive around in a vehicle any bigger than what I already had for 95% of the time while I commuted to work. The times when we were all in it there was naff no room for anything else, prams were always a bugger to get in never mind the dog aswell. So, when I used to have my 300Tdi i bought a nice trailer for when we went away and for all others time's it was just fine. Since the 300 my main consideration for buying a new 90 was becuase of the new forward facing rear seats which are much safer for kids, I did fit forward facing ones to the 300 but I never trusted them they were far to flimsy in comparision to the LR ones. Here's the old girl, I still miss it now....
  3. I dont, I think it's just that I have been used to driving old and tattered series for so many years my new one is like driving a luxury car to me.
  4. I very surprised that people are finding things wrong with their new defenders, I've done 6k in mine now and not one problem. I'm afraid there is a slight transmission clunk when coasting, this has always been the same as the props and diffs are still rotating and they do have play in them even when new. The only heat from my transmission tunnel is the underdash heater will still blow hot air on onto tunnel area even when switched off due to it working off ram air aswell, ensure the temp is set to cold and not just switched off. There has been quite a few complaints about the new defender and people paying 20>30k for a vehicle that might not have the build quality of a D3 (heated seats etc), but I'm afraid we must not forget that Land Rover is where it is today becuase of this old clunky beast. They are a fit for purpuse machine that will pull any cattle trailer covered in cow sh8t for alot longer than any other 4x4.
  5. Could anyone tell me if I can get a copy of the latest microcat that includes the 2007 defender, I already have microcat but an out of date version. Thanks Alternativly is there any other manuals around that cover the 07 Defender.
  6. I spotted this on ebay for you, not cheap though!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Clock-Radio-Display-...bayphotohosting
  7. RIGHT THEN, here are some piccies of how Land Rover should waxoyl their Defender. Look at the lovely stuff oozing outa me cavities!!!! For those interested it cost £150 at Land Ranger Middlewich Cheshire 01606834981, I'm fed up of doing this job myself and it would of cost at least half of the bill to buy the waxoyl alone. I'm not on commission or anything but please mention my name if you do go there for a waxoyl after reading this. Ta Richard
  8. Cheer's western I do that anyway, but the added advantage to the timer is it will do it for you for an exact amount of time everytime. The main reason I asked is because I used to have a twin turbo RX-7 with a timer fitted, the timer allowed me to set how many seconds I wanted the engine to idle after I had switched the off the engine at the ignition. The timer would also only kick in the the engine was at a certain temperature. I dont think I'll bother with one as our turbo's are much lower pressure turbo's to that of performnace cars, I'm just curious to know if anyone has done it???
  9. Has anyone gone to the trouble of fitting one of these, Defender or otherwise?
  10. Booked mine in for a full steam/clean and chassis waxoyl, this includes all cavities (no dealer will bother with that, they probably wont have the lances) and bulk head £120. I couldn't do it my self at that price after bouying the waxoyl amd equipment. Ive done it a couple of time myself before on previous Drovers and I that cost me around the 50 quid mark. I'll not recommend the place until I get the evidence and some hopefully nice but not so shiny chassis pics up on here. Rich
  11. I agree with what everyone says here as my new Defender has very patchy underseal to, I don’t think I am going to bother chasing the dealer to sort it out though as I know I'll just be disappointed with the job they do anyway. The dealer for me was just a glich in getting myself a new Defender out of Solihull, I don’t need to go back there again as I'll get it serviced at a specialist. As for the underseal I am going to pay someone who I know will do a decent job and blast the cavities and bulk head at the same time.
  12. MY07 CSW does not get hot at all around the transmission tunnell and I do 80 miles a day commutte mainly on the M56 at 60>70mph & I'm still getting 34mpg, I tend to change gear at around 2k rpm if that helps. Something cannot be right if you're only getting 20mpg???
  13. I've got one see here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopi...mp;#entry145438 5k on the clock and no problems whatsoever 34mpg, great throttle response. I had a 300Tdi before this and the only thing I miss (kind of) is the all the things I was constantly repairing, servicing. It's all new and now and covered by warranty
  14. I dont know sorry, I've taken mine to 75ish but most of the time even on the motorway I stick to a nice steady 60mph @ 1800rpm just ticking over nicely.
  15. If think the best one to go for is TDCi it flows on from 200, 300, TD5 and now the TDCi Ps 3.5k in and not a glich
  16. I own a 07 Defender and as already mentioned 07 defender drivers cannot really say how well the heater will fair in our not so cold as your winter months. Saying that though the heater is extremely good and on the odd cooler day I have only had to set the temp on it very low to achieve a very warm cabin as where my 300 defender would hardly warm anything up at all apart from the heater unit it self. It's easy for me to say as I dont live in -30 but you need to consider more than just the heater, if you can spend 2 if not 3 times the amount on a new one oppossed to an old one then I would go for the ne wone every time thats why I did it. The new defender is absolutely fantastic to drive and is not too disimilar to the older models like the 300. The gearbox is great with it's extra 6th gear, I have had mine for 3k miles now and I have averaged 34mpg on every tank which is a big difference over the 29 I was getting with the 300. I did love my old Landy as with all the series I've owned but it was starting to become costly, new clutch transfer box etc. I never new the history from day one with my old 300 either which is another benfit from buying new, it's yours and you will know every but of it. Cheers
  17. Mine is exactly the same, I think it's just the nature of the setup between the intake and the engine that resonates the noise. I notice mine quite alot at around 40mph in 5th.
  18. Thanks for all the replies, I'm going to downgrade the priority on this job to my 6k service which Land Rover don;t even bother doing.
  19. I usually do this around every 1k miles on my 300, is this a little obsessive? Land Rover state just do it during the service every 6k on a 300TDi and 12k on a MY07. I can't imagine Range Rover Sport drivers get underneath their vehicles to grease the shafts very often and they seem to last I guess. The reason I ask is the nipples on the new 07 propshafts are very difficult to get a flexi hose on as the swivel is much tighter than on the older shafts, I dont wont to be doing the job more often than needed.
  20. No not really, other than I know how many time this has failed in the past. I didn't think having the new incarnation of the transfer box makes any difference, I thought the cross drilled shaft was the main shaft from the gearbox? Seeing as this is a new gearbox for Landrover (i.e Ford) the shaft may not be cross drilled...
  21. Does anybody know if the main shaft into the transfer is cross drilled for lubrication? I do hope Land Rover haven't engineered this problem back in?
  22. That looks vey smart I hope your enjoying as much as I do mine. I just washed mine for the first time today I dont know how I managed to leave it so long, nearly a month. Remember to check the engine oil as I have put half a litre in mine to top it back up, I wasn't concerned because alot of new engines use a little bit of oil for the first couple of k then they wont use any.
  23. Good luck with it, I absolutely love mine. I just checked my MPG this morning after filling he up (MY07 90CW) and its doing 33mpg, 200 of the miles were pulling 3/4 tonne aswell.
