  1. I've used lead bitumen inside my 130, doors, floor pans, seat box etc. It's a relatively cheap way for sound proofing and easy to apply using a HD hairdryer. You'll need a combination of both anti drumming noise and sound deafening materials like foam structures. In my 109 I'ved used the noisekiller stuff, main problem is that it comes loose + not fit smooth to the panels. I've spend a lot of energy in getting the noise down, best improvement on the motorway is a higher ratio, so fitting an overdrive. Cheers Marco
  2. Thanks. I tested all 4 plugs this morning and none of them will glow. I did connect them directly to a battery using battery leads. So its does look they are all dead... I presume they should get red hot as I did a similar test with the plugs of the old TD engine some years ago. Double checked an tried it a few time but zero response. Will buy new ones first before starting any more complicated surgery! Cheers Marco
  3. Yep, do expect the same. Actually I do hope it's something like that and not something worse. Will probably lift the head, as all seals and gaskets are on the shelf it could be a quick job. Will decide tomorrow and if I give it a go I will take some pictures to post on this tread. Cheers Marco
  4. It could be a cause but after whipping the plugs and injectors off with a cloth + fitting them back + cleaning the injector sleeves I still get engine oil on the tips so I do expect an oil leak inside the head. As the engine is not running I think it could be oil leaking along the valve stems. I consider to lift the head for inspection. Cheers Marco
  5. Thanks for this reply. I will check if the do work y/n. However the oil on the heater plugs and also inside the sleaves of the 2nd and 3rd injector is black engine oil and not unburned diesel oil. I do expect a more complicated cause? Cheers Marco
  6. Hi, today I did a routine check on my 200Tdi engine. Both No. 2 and No. 3 heater plugs are covered in black engine oil. The other two are fine, just a bit black. I've also removed the injectors, 1 and 2 fine but both 2 and 3 are full of engine oil but the tip looks normal... So mainly oil inside the shaft of 2 and 3 and on the heater plugs. I suppose this is bad news and wonder how bad it will be? Either oil leaking on the plugs via the valve seals/stems or oil on top of the piston? Mileage is about +/- 140.000 and on start up I do get a puff of black smoke. Engine is running fine, no problems... Any info welcome. Cheers Marco
  7. Thanks! Normally post on that other forum but this one seems to be more active :-) Cheers Marco
  8. Hi, what type of sealant do you recommend, I'm also in the process of rebuilding a rear door. Will some type of silicon sealant (for glass) be suitable? Cheers Marco
  9. I've got the two lug lockable fuel cap and push door locks. The barrel of the fuel cap is slightly bigger as far as I can remember. I actually bought a new fuel cap especially for changing the lock. Taking apart the fuel cap is tricky anyway as small balls and springs for the ventilation will pop out. Strange thing however is that key size is about the same... Cheers Marco
  10. I've tried this one (bought full set of barrels & keys) by taking apart the lock of a new fuel cap but for some reason this barrel is not the same as the one for the door locks. Vehicle 1992 Defender 200TDi. So I still have a separate key for the fuel cap. Cheers Marco
  11. I'm using a Pacet fan on my 200Tdi, no visco fitted. Runs fine, no overheating at all and lots of space in the engine bay with visco and cowl removed. Cheers Marco
