  1. not a straight swap, you'd be much better off sourcing a 90/110 LT77 the RR/Disco variant will need work internally to make it fit in the same way as the current LT77, plus the gearlever mechanism is different too.

Many Thanks for your reply. I am glad their are people out their willing to share their experients.;)

  2. Hello All.

I have the chance to buy an lt77 gearbox for my defender 200 tdi (disco engined) Not sure about the year of the vehicle or engine. BUT my box which is in there at the mo makes a real screaming noise in reverse only ? In all other gears it is fine. So I am at a loss.My question is that the G/box I can buy is from a Range Rover so is this a straight swap 1 out 1 in ? or have I got to cut this move that etc, etc, Please help as I am running out of time to buy this 1 .

Many Thanks for all your help.

  3. HI Guys any 1 know the setting for a 2.4 / 2.5 VM engine. I have to replace the gaskets & 3 out of the 4 heads, BUT am struggling to find any info on the subject. Torque settings timing settings etc etc. Please help MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.blink.gifblink.gifblink.gifblink.gif

  4. I presume it is the cold start device that you are talking about. Increases the idle speed when the engine is cold. A pipe out of cyl No 3 through the device and a pipe to just behind the thermostat. The device has a lever linking it to the side of the injection pump.

If the cold start is not there depending on ambient temp and condition of the engine it will run very rough and probably keep stalling so keep it. If yours is broken find a Rover 825 d , chrysler voyager (early 90s) or Jeep I think they are all the same.

Big Thank you. it,s broke by the part where the rubber pipe joins on to the metal cold start. any Idea of cost for 1 of these thing,s ???????wink.gif

  5. mad.gif Phil .I just done a clutch on my Isuzu trooper 3.1 & I can tell U it was a right Ball ache.Doing this sort of work on the side of the road is NOT idea. as I ended up with bruises all over. & it was a 12 hour job. G/box out & back in BUT it was *ucking heavy so If U ever get asked to do 1 I,d say sorry get it done @ a garage @ the cost of £699.99p sad.gifNever again, ohmy.gif
  6. I have a thing ?? which is part of the fuel pump system which has water flowing through it. Any Idea what it is OR what it does ?? as the rubber pipe fitted to it has broken NOT the rubber part BUT the part that joins the pipe to what ever it is. Still Not sure what it is What it dooes or if it,s really needed ?sad.gif

  7. Can any 1 help. I have A wheel wobble @ slow speed. especially turning left or right. I have put it down to the tyres being aggressive.I have checked the wheel bearings, the prop, the drop arm ball joint, panard rod & can't find any play in any off it. So I am @ a loss now ? sad.gifsad.gif

  8. Ive got a Rangie classic & the speedo has stopped working. I checked the ends that go into the speedo head which seemed lose & the G/box end is tight as it should be so I need a bit of help. Am I right in thinking that the end that screws into the speedo head just screws in their is nothing else that should be their ? sad.gif

  9. I use the NFU but I haggle but I feel i get a good deal because we insure everything (company wise) with them, buildings, PL, marine cargo and not least all our company vehicles, lorrys etc with them (40 lorries, 30 cars/pick ups, 42 tractors) you can seem them face to face talk to them in the pub.

They do obviously understand the 'agricultural and more pratical client' more than a lot of companies.

WELL GUY'S & GIRLS U CAN NOT BEAT THIS CAN U Frank Pickels insured my Tray Back Range Rover with all the MOD'S on, & the Grand sum was GET THIS £96.03p yep thats right & I don't

think theirs a insurance company out their that can or could match this & it's with me amitting the 6 points on my drivers licence. 3 speeding & 3 for a mobile phone misterminer.

    God save Frank Pickels. laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

    cheers

Defo the solenoid my went like that & it was lack of use & maintenance . SO now I make a habit of running out the winch @ least once a week.

Also put some Grease over the terminals that helps also.wink.gif Remember it's a lot of money sat on the front of ur truck so l@@k after it.ohmy.gif

  11. I tried 3 packets of these Britpart seal kits & they were all the wrong size.Sent them back got me money back & now hopefully get a pair of Brake calipers @ sodbury PLease, PLease, wink.gifwink.gif

  12. Aside from potential probable legal issues, you may also find that it will not steer correctly. The reason for this is that when the engine, body and such is on the chassis the suspension is compressed and the steering geometry is at the right angle to 'castor' - in other word to behave just like the castors on your supermarket trolley, and point in the direction of travel. Once the weight is removed and the springs rise you lose some or all of this castoring effect and, if it is extreme enough, the wheels will then try to point in any direction other than the direction of travel.

During reversing the wheels will not castor, will go straight to full lock one way or tother and you will find it all but impossible to manoeuvre depending on the amount of weight your van has on the rear axle.

For any number of reasons, the correct, safe and legal thing to do would be to trailer/flat bed the chassis.

Sorry Chaps BUT I towed a range rover from Bristol to Devon & back on a A frame & I had NO issues. I spoke with a Traffic cop & asked him what were the rules & he said that none of the traffic cops would know if any laws were being broke. BUT i did HAVE A FLASHING AMBER LIGHT ON & a trailer board & did not get stopped @ any time taking it down oreven back when it was covered in mud.& as regarding steering it.s NOT that bad. I was down the motorway & had no props. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

  13. A word of warning - if you do buy a caliper rebuild kit don't buy Britpart - half the bits are the wrong size. I'm not sure about other pattern brands, of even if there are any. I've given up rebuilding calipers now and just get a complete recon caliper, but I'm not on quite as tight a budget as I was (well, I wasn't before the new engine... blink.gif).

    freely

Thank you all. The fault was a seized cailiper & the pistons were NOT able to move yet alone freely & yes I did buy a britpart rebuild kit & yes your right the don't fit the outer end seals snap get bent or just DO NOT work. (What a waste of money & time & effort) any 1 going down this route of the rebuild kit Trust me it's rubbish & as I said a waste of money time & efffort.

(mad.gifBritpart you need to try them out for ur selfs) rtfm.gif

  14. Hi Pepe's Can any 1 HELP. my range rover has started to swerve to the left side very badly when I need to brake hard.

the front goes to the left & the rear end goes as well & I do not know how to cure it.blink.gifblink.gifblink.gif So if any 1 has any clues or ideas to cure this fault I would be very Grateful.wink.gif

  15. I presume you want a bit more torque at low engine speed to solve your off road problem. My RR works on the farm and tows a 3.5t trailer. To improve the general drivability I have tweeked the fuel pump. 3 turns on the knurled nut in the fuel pump under the turbo diapragm brings in max turbo boost at 1500rpm. But.... Max boost pressure 1 bar , max EGT 600- 700°C, and keep an eye on cylinder head temp, if not a short life. It is the same adjustment that can be done to the 200 /300tdi because they all have the Bosch VE fuel pump.

Thanks very much. I'll have a l@@k to see whats what.huh.gif

  16. blink.gif Can any one HELP. I have a range rover with a factory fitted VM engine. on road it goes very well off road BUT off road the engine won't pull the skin off a rice pudding. I have changed the fuel lift pump with a new original one.biggrin.gif I changed the fuel filter. fitted new pipe work from tank to lift pump & now I am @ a huh.gifloss & am calling on the more experience off roaders for help. THANKS.wink.gifwink.gifwink.gifwink.gif
