Further to the post the other day, the P- gasket is sorted but the water pump is now leaking!! I have put a new gasket in once and it leaked then put some sealant in with another gasket and it also leaked. There was some remnance of the old gasket but not a lot. I have stripped it out and cleaned the faces back to original state. So the question is tomorrow do i use sealant (if so how big a bead) or just the gasket on its own??
Cheers

Finally got the baskets off and completed the job. I firstly attempted the pry bar but couldnt really wedge it on anything to hold it tight so got angry and threw that some where in the garden!! Then tried Tony's break the seal with a chiesel but think they are cemented in place! Then got really peeved and found the strap wrench and started to lean on that but it still moved (14st of me) so i obviously need more weight!! SO happened that me dad was indoors all 18st of him and that made the difference!! He leant on it and i gave it a tap come bash with the hammer to finally realease the bolts. So folks thanks for the ideas of wisdom but in the end the fat bloke from indoors came up trumps!!

Les, sorry i have stripped the rest of the stuff out, Alternator, water pump pulley all pipe work but have not removed any of the 3 10mm bolts on the power steering pump pulley. Once i have done one i will be able to the others with the M8 as you suggest but its just getting one of them out!!
-
I dont have an impact wrench so its one of the other methods, i would pop over but as i have stripped the rest out i wont be going anywhere till tomorrow!! The pry bar sounds good or take the whole thing off also. I tried the hammer but again the belt just slipped.
Thanks for the help will have a go tomorrow am and if i have more probs i will see where i can go from there!!
Cheers

Hi guys,
On the way to do the P Gasket and cant shift the power steering pulley bolts. It keeps slipping under tension anyway i can get some resistance to undo it. Water pump pulley was fine.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have been thinking about purchasing one of these myself, but just wondering if you can fit a CB and CD player, one in the top and one in the very bottom with switches in between?? Would this be possible or will the CB or CD need mounting elsewhere??
Have heard good things about these consoles elsewhere, so its a xmas list job i think!!

Thats awesome i love that Phantom, with the winch, class!
-
Thats class Tony i always leave the Hi-lift in the truck but havent has to use it very much not for helping lorries out anyway!
How much do you think your truck could realistic pull/tow if it were legal plus what did you attach the recovery gear to - that must have put it under some strain??
Has anyone else had any experiences of pulling lorries out of harms way?

Just went out and wipped belt off i think the wheel bearing is stuffed so thats not a problem. But on second looking at the water leak the area where the P-gasket fails seems ok. The water is dripping along the front axle from the lip of the sump.
Here is a pic of the side of the engine which also looks wet!!
Any ideas??

Thanks Les will have a look this morning.

Guys and Gals,
A little while ago i posted about leaking coolant from beneath water pump. Have pretty much determined that its the P - gasket. Am just waiting till i come home from uni for xmas to fix it because me dad is driving it whilst i am away. Anyway i am back for the weekend and the squeak from the belt has got a lot worse. Its on constantly but changes tone with engine RPM. I have recently fitted a new alternator so checked belt condition then and it seems fine with no cracks or signs of wear.
Is it possible that some of the collant is leaking onto the belt and causing the really annoying noise??
Thanks in advance your always helpful

Snorkel Mechanics you have to love it ask a simple question and get degree spec answers lol love it. Just waiting for next months student lone to buy it now!!

This was the only the thing i was thinking about. I see loads of people with it turned around. Guess this has no effect.
-
Excellent thread bog monster, so if you seal the air box up as tight as possible and seal all the pipe work from the air intake it should be ok?? Is that the best way to test it by bloking the snorkel and letting the engine starve of air??
-
Hi all,
Right whilst i make my mind up on the suspension decisions i am also going to fit a raised air intake. First of all which type do you recommend and what are the differences ie mushroom tops and safaris also could anyone give me a guide for fitting. Cant find one on the technical archive. What measures do you lot go to to make everything water tight (remove pipe work and replace with a thin bead of silicone???) Also i want to extend all the breathers (4 in total??) what pipe is best to use for this can i am guessing you can buy it from somewhere other than 4x4 places as its only pipe surely!!
Cheers in advance sorry again for the newbie q's hopefully one day i will be helping someone else!!

Cheers guys very helpful as usual. I will let him know.

Hi all,
Posting for a mate whos vehicle it is. The airbag light doesnt go out on the dash - what can be causing this and how can it be solved?? other than disconnecting it!!
Sorry for being a bit vague
Cheers in advance

Excellent David thanks for that, will give you a call before the weekend hopefully depending on how much work i have. At least it makes my options clear. There is so much stuff out their its a mine field if your new to it all!!

Guys, i am a little confused, i understand that 2" longer shocks will give me more droop and when they are on upward travel they will reach full travel before axle travel, i get that much. What about added 2" mounts surely this will reduce the droop?? is this me stupid?? Sorry for the newbie questions.!! One other thing is, are straps best for retaining the springs or should i use the solid type that secures it to the axle??
Many thanks
Bare with me am just trying to grasp it!!
-
Cheers guys, thats what i thought i could do but wasnt sure. Do many people do that or do they normally increase height of the sprngs aswell. So SteveG when on motorway with the boat it could be a bit unstable?? If so fit some HD springs of standrad height. Is this correct??
Cheers guys - you sure do know your stuff!!
-
Excellent thanks for that thats the gasket that has failed.

Question 1. What options do i have to increase articulation without increasing ride height?? Its just i tow a boat and trailer so cant go too high even with a dixon bate, but also want better articulation when P & Ping. is this possible??
Question 2. I have a water leak from somewhere which is not coming from anywhere conventional!! Its dripping onto the top of the sump. Water pump is fine and gasket is fine but the auxillary bracket gasket looks like it is where its coming from?? can this happen?? I have checked everything else all pipe work is pretty new.
Cheers for your help in advance

I guess if you can see it then you can avoid it as others have said its the hidden bits that scare me. I went out to a P&P sunday and ploughed into a mud bank luckily it was all mud, cracked my number plate mind, just glad it wasnt the steering setup.

Luke, do you let the sealant go completely off before fixing?? and i guess you go round the outside of the holes not inside as i spose this could push it in to the chamber and which part do you apply the rtv?? sorry for the nemb questions
