It's probably this he's talking about: LINKY But if you look at the 10 worst models, chart, the Puma isn't there. It's the current Range Rover apparently letting the side down. [EDIT] Actually....they don't have a reliability index for the Defender. Is that because it was off the scale?

What engine is it? And can you describe the noise? Like an auxiliary belt, a tensioner squealing, a turbo without oil....?

It's exactly the same symptoms mate. DLR said the oil seeps down past the seals when the engine is at rest and cold, the oil burns off when you start it and it gets up to temp. The other options is turbo bearing, but you've already checked that.

I can't tell from the thread, but did you replace the valve stem oil seals? I have exactly the same problem and Dunsfold LandRover told me the other day it would be the stem seals. I'm just waiting for a free weekend to do them.

Have you checked with the Nanocom that the 10AS is still set to disabled? And how long did you leave the battery disconnected? Try leaving it disconnected for an hour or so, and then try again. Is your battery fully charged and healthy? -
Check the grub screw that holds the gearstick to the cup is tight.
