  1. Daughters boyfriend picked up his first 'Poor vehicle choice' tickets.

Seems the tree hugging dweebs were active today in Whitby North Yorkshire, a town in one of the most rural places in the UK......

    What plonkers.

I am going to scan it and turn it into a version to place on all the Prius's (and similar) running around - contributions as to what should go on them apprecated......

    This is war!!!!

Make sure you post a copy of youre re-worked ticket, so we can all have a little fun with the prius bregade

  2. Or electricity.

    Or the wheel.

Anyway - you can't buy a decent pint of shady north of Brum.

The only beer you get up there is either Guiness or bitter that's so strong it takes the enamel off your teeth!

    Les. :D

If globale warming is to be belived, we will have nice hot weather and the south will be under water, Win Win i think

  3. Kirton is a fab site and only 1 hour away from me :D .But on the subject of events,i live pretty much smack bang in the middle of the country and have to travel either 200+miles north for most events or 150+miles south :o .There is miles of suitable land 1/2 an hour from my house(peak district)but the "powers"that be wont allow much motorsport  which means a major hike to nearly every major competition

Hey ho,we will still go anyway, just sent entries for the tay forest challenge(600+ mile round trip!!!) but it will be worth it :D

    Paul ;)

There is some great lanes left over from NERC in the peak district though, for when you cant be ar*ed going to an event

  4. Worse yet, as soon as leisure boaters started talking about using bio-diesel (taxed at 3ppl for off-road use IIRC) instead of red, the government announced that bio for off-road use would be taxed at the same rate as road bio. Green or money grabbing?

    Chris

    they make me so mad....

is there any end to this, we are taxed to death i cant wait till may 6th

  5. I'm looking for a chop saw that I can use on both steel and timber. I had a quick look around B&Q a while back and it appears that the hole centres for the discs are different between metal cutting discs and saw blades. Is this always the case?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a product that can cut both? What about a sliding chop saw to increase cutting capacity?

    Questions questions!!

    TIA

I use a sthil saw for both i made a bush on a lathe and adapted a wood blade to fit it, I got the sthil second hand for £100 very brutal but cappable

  6. it shouldn't make any noise engaging. you can engage it on the move as well but pref not with a wheel spinning excessively fast (eg when stuck trying to get out)

    to check you could

lock the center diff, leave it in gear and jack up an axle, wheels will only turn till held on the gears.

unlock the diff, leave in gear, and wheel will spin one way and the wheel on the other end of the axle will go the other way.

i would use axle stands on the lifted axle and chock the remaining grounded wheels on the other axle (both sides) on the ground

Is that not the case if you have a rear or front lockers im proberly wrong but i thought it was different with the center diff locker

  7. Ok, My test is being booked asap so hopefully in the next 5/6 weeks I'll be passed so then I might see about hooking up with some of you for my 110s (and mine for that matter) mud christening :)

I'll take a note of some names and see what we can arrange. I noticed this site is a lot more based towards comp off roading than just casual green lanes but I'm sure there's some of us who still enjoy a nice gentle meander around :)

    Cheers all,

    David.

Good luck with youre test pal,

Like i say you can never get borred meandering around that fine bit of the country, I am quite into my old green lanes and try to drive some twice a month, how about next time im up there i send you a P.M. i will kick the wife into the back an you join us eaven have a go when no one watching.

If anybody fances a day out lanning round the lakes let me know and we'll see if we cant get a few of us out for a day.

  8. Hi there,

When I got my 300Tdi 90 I noticed that the 4WD diff lock on the dash boar does not light up when the diff lock should be engaged.

Last weekend I dig through the floor and the gear box casing to fix a gear box oil linkage and noticed that on of the two wires of the diff lock sensor is cut off.

Once re-wired the dash turns the light on, when the stick is moved to the position where the diff lock should be engaged. But I do not feel any "click" or "clack" or anything like that while selecting the diff lock.

Tried to go only really slippery grass hill, but didn’t notice any difference with the dif lock on or off.

Is there a way to diagnose if the diff lock really works or not?

Thanks in advance for any advices.

    Tomas

I dont get any clunk or click from my 3oo tdi when i switch over to diff lock, I know its working as it has got me out of the cr>p a few times,

There is a way to check by jacking something and somtehing and doing something but it escapes me at the moment but no doubt someone else can fill you in on that

  9. Just a heads up here to see who's around, I should (Hopefully) be coming to the end of my L Plate experience soon and so be fully dangerous on the roads ;) And I'd like to celebrate with a spot of greenlaning to get the 110 muddy. So just wondering if there was anyone around this area (Near Kendal, J36 M6) with a knowledge of some local Lanes.

    Cheers,

    David.

Hi im based near preston and have some good knowlage of the lakes, I have just planed a route for a day out which includes some real nice lanes and some technicale driving, i was just trying to decide when to do the route so i am well up for a day out if you fancy it

  11. Has anyone got a filing system for saving greenlanes to Memory Map, which is easy to use and retreve?

How do you name them? LDNP list them starting with U, Wayfinder use a code system linked to the OS grid ref (I think ). I've got some saved by the name of the land it crosses, or the nearest farm.

Is there a standard method of filing?

    ED

I have tried to find a way to file different lanes but eventualy gave up choosing too just save by days out with simple dates and areas
