What a great write up, my 1996 tdi defender failed its mot on this a couple of months ago, I needed the cars towing capabilities 2 days after the test so very stupidly let them fit it for me just so i could have it on the road in time, the theifing baxxxxds charged me £160 for 4 hours labour

I think I may be wrong but this programme has the GLASS rep for Cumbria and Lancashire Paul De bore and they sit him down and rip him to bits making all the green laners look like monsters

Thanks for that. Will take the Freebie, wasn't looking forward to the drive up there in my 90. Yes, just getting to grips with MM. Hopefully will have a way of powering my laptop in the car for navigation.
I would take the 90, there is some cracking lanes over Grizzdale forest and water crossings over Kirby Stephen I can send you via email mm overlays of where we go in the lakes which all have been checked out from a right of way point of veiw, Or youre more than welcome to join us on one of our days out
As for the lap top i bought a cheap-O inverter for my ciggie lighter

Looked at the car today it turned out to be a td5 in black very nice appart from 4 little burns in the heated front screen so replaced at our cost, and no hard feelings

Hmmmmmmm
I definately smell a small furry squeeky object with tail.
at 30+ mph and at 3.5 metres I would be amazed if sparks had any force left in them on contact for a nano sec or so.
Be wary....very F wary
Nige
me too

Thanks bog, I just cant belive any damage could be done at say 3.5 meters away traveling at aprox 30 mph, we often use vans/wagons as "sheilds" a lot closer than that and rarely see damage

Whilst at work today in lovley Wraxham one of our chaps rather carelessly cut a lengh of barrier to fit a gap on a new lenth of crash barrier thinking nothing more about it we merrly carried on with our day of work about 3-4 hours later a nice man turned up and cmplained to me that his wife had driven past and we had peppered all his side windows on his lovley Discovery 3 and wanted it repairing, he was just dismissed as a man after a quick £££ but now after thinking aout it and feeling guilty any ideas on cost and as i will be inspecting it tomorrow anything tolook for

I think the the trouble will start when you are involved in a accident and the insurance people laugh at you and refuse to cough up any £££££< I have told my insurance firm about all my mods but like you say come may when you cant fit them any more who knows what the premium will be.
On a simaler note I work in road construction and all our work vans/wagons have tow bars on, we have our own fitter and shop, but send all new vehicles away to have tow packs fitted as the insurance firm have said that if some one runs in to the rear of one of our vehicales and there is damage to their car we may be liable for all costs unless we can prove it was fitted correctly by a trained and compitent person

Bloody farm jacks I "borrowed" one from work a few years ago since then ive used it twice, the first time i couldnt lower it then when it did lower the leaver sliped hitting me in the jaw leaving me swollen and bleeding, and the second time i very stupidly jacked the back end up by the tow bar to put it on axel stands just got it high enough for the stands and it moved to one side and came crashing down on to swmbo pride and joy 07 citroen c2 vtr making a nice big dint in the rear wing it wouldnt be so bad but she was cleaning it at the time and saw everything so i have fallen out with them there not idiot proof enough for me

Thanks for the help..
one other thing... the tdi 300 is from a defender. Since i used to read that the 300 had a defect in the timing belt setup and needed to have the tensioner and gear replaced... thus this apply to the defender engine too or it applies only to the discovery engine?
Yep its needed on the defender engine too straight forward enough though

I wouldnt hesitate and put the black plates on I dont think the police will take any notice of you V.O.S.A may take some intrest but i doubt it and the penilty well its not endorcable on youre licence just a fixed penlty like using a phone used to be or not wearing youre seat belt so I would risk it
About six monthes ago I got pulled over for no number plate on tow behind compressor and all I got was the fine
Rob

Pictures as promised:
1. The reason I replaced the seats was just because the opus seats I had in my old 300TDi were only 6 months old and are far better than any standard seats for long journeys (I do an 80 mile commute a day). The dealer let me keep the seats and I put some original one's back in when I part exhanged it.
Where did you get those seats from as im in the market for some new ones and the look good

Well mm is memory map a fantastic piece of software that displays ordance survay maps of the whole uk on it, when linked to gps you represent a red flshing dot always central in the screen, depending on what hardwre you are using (laptop, pda etc) there is no need to keep loading maps, myself I use a pda so can only have two regions loaded at one time but they are so large i have needed more, Alot of people like to take paper maps as a back up but I feel thats not needed, I bought my software for £20 of ebay but to buy as an original its gonna cost £150 +
