or the amplifier on the distributor or the afm - try disconnecting it - it should run worse
-
Could be the water tempature sensor - if it goes wrong it can send the ecu/afm the wrong signals and mess up the mixture - quite easy to replace and not too expensive
-
As the others have said definatly get a branded one - i fitted a cheapo "britishpart" if you get my drift and it did not work from the word go waisting a lot of time. I then got one from bearmach and it was fine

Dogs preferably a collie & german sheperd & security lights -
No -one can even walk past on the road without themgoing balistic and the collie sleeps with one ear up. the front drive lights up like a circus as well - mind you i live in a rural area. this is fine for night time then rely on nosy neighbours in the daytime which works well if you get on with everyone.

forgot to add, unless your conviced its cream krackered i would just fit it and see how she runs before potentially wasting good ££££
OK cheers

I have just got a 200tdi disco engine to put in my 2a at a good price. i was assured the engine was good but tbh i have been told that about worn out engines before.. Because i dont know the history of the engine and have not heard it running i intend to strip and inspect it - replace the belts, big ends etc as necessary.
Can anyone recommend any reliable/honest turbo and/or diesel specialists who can check the turbo and injection pump & injectors as obviousley i can't work on these and have no idea if they are in perfect working order or need a recon.
preferably in the sw/somerset area but i dont mind posting if necessary
thanks

can someone tell the the size of this pully bolt so i can order the correct socket thanks
-
My wifes 300 tdi was like that & it was the lift pump 1/2 hour job and about £35
-
I had one burst and leak but not so dramatically - interestingly is was also a new pattern part and hot to the touch so it could be poor quality pattern parts
-
they are nigh on £100 a piece unless you make one.
an impact gun will undo it with the engine removed.
ps the crank locking tool relies on the chassis leg also to hold it, although the floor would suffice I guess.
I was offered one for £30 so I may go for it cheers
-
holds the pulley so you can undo the bolt
but a socket and breaker bar on the drivers side chassis leg and a flick of the starter will undo it.
timing kits are good as they included the pullers/pins
but try and hire/borrow one.
OK thanks
might be worth getting the locking tool as the engine isnt fitted yet
cheers

Hi All
I have just aquired a 200tdi to fit in my 2a. I am planning on replacing the timing belt before fitting and have read various posts in relation to the tightness of the front pully bolt and various methond of removal while the engines in the vehicle.
Do these locking tools actually lock the crank while undoing the pully bolt or are they a wate of money?
also are the timing kits worth going for?
cheers
