  1. did you keep the 200tdi disco item and drill and tap....? or did you use a 19j (your old engines one)....? I used the 19j as after a load of searching on the net that was the way I thought people did it. now my mechanic that is fitting my new crank seal says it wont last unless I re-fit a proper disco 200tdi one with the mentioned drilled and tapped holes. I need to make a decision what to do now, bit of advice would be good.
  2. ahh, that explains what he's on about then. sounds like it will be better off done to mine. cheers
  3. following my 200tdi conversion I completed a couple of months ago oil had started to leak at the back end indicating I had messed up when fitting the new crank seal (sh*tpart) so I have decided to save myself the hassle and get a small firm land rover mechanic to do it for me. yesterday he phoned me to say indeed it was the said crank seal that needed replacing. I had supplied him with genuine land rover block to flywheel housing gasket and crank seal as I dont want to be having it out again. Whilst on the phone he tells me that in order to stop it leaking again I need him to fit a proper 200tdi flywheel housing and not re-use the 19j one I transfered from my old engine. he mentioned drilling and tapping the 4 bolts in the bottom as it would do a better job and with the genuine gasket and seal wont leak again. just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this as I thought the drilling and tapping was only for older series vehicle conversions to mate up to the 4 speed box?
  4. where is the furthest you have been / longest time without any problems after doing a disco 200tdi conversion into a 90/110? it seems a fairly straight forward swap etc, mine is done now and its transformed my 90. just wondering if its a good long term thing i.e. could you drive to the likes of france and back without major complications?

  6. sorted, I think.. knackered old glass fuse holders doing odd things when I put the fuse cover on. got most of the lights working again now. been doing some looking into doing a fuseboard upgrade to blade type, hopefully that will fix everything permanently when done.
  7. ideal post for what im looking at doing Turbocharger where did you buy the holders/fuses/connectors from? also, did you solder or crimp? thanks
  8. yes the left rear indicator works. the wiring is a bit messy, but it all worked before I changed the engine. Cant see in doing that how ive affected lighting circuits etc
  9. the manual i have says send the seal all the way home into the flywheel housing as the machined face in the back will make sure the seal is fitted square. think you just use the plastic bit to get the seal to start over the end of the crank without damaging it. I did a seal the other day and fit it flush with the flywheel housing after reading up on the net, needless to say ill be taking the engine out again next week and doing as my manual says.
  10. just fitted a 200 tdi into my 90 and have got an odd lighting problem now, front left sidelight and rear left sidelight wont work at all (right are both fine) front dipped headlights both work, but only rear right sidelight main beam only works on the front right and finally, ive lost my reverse light. checked the obvious things like fuses etc, and today took off cleaned and refit all the earths. over to you guys, any suggestions?
  11. hi, fitting my disco 200 tdi into my 90 that currently has a 19j over this coming weekend, one question I have to ask is, will the coolant temperature sensor from my 19j engine fit into the 200 tdi thermostat housing so I can get the gauge to read a correct temperature? have done a lot of searching and it looks as if most people encounter problems here and ive read suggestions for about 8 different part numbers and different thread sizes. bit confused... cheers in advance.
  12. firstly, hello to everyone as ive not long joined this forum. my defender 90 has a strange oil leak from the rear axle, I stopped half on/off the curb before to tighten a ratchet strap on my trailor and noticed my alloy wheel was covered in oil which seemed to be streaming from the center of the wheel. recently I replaced all 4 of the rubber center caps as the other wheels had some light oil marks coming from them and thats worked a treat for the other 3 but not for the rear drivers side. question is, is there some sort of seal within the end of the axle tube to stop this happening that may need replacing? on another note, ive not had chance to check if the axle breathers are clear and the rear diff pinion seal also needs replacing.. I bought 2 of these as im going to change both the front and rear before I change my diff oil. so in relation to the above question id like to fix whatever else is knackered first so my new oil doesnt all leak out. sorry to ramble on, and thanks in advance for any replies.
