  1. All this suggests I should go on a road-trip this weekend to have a wee look at it! Thank you guys, Ross
  2. "Bought it from the Forestry Commission and found the chassis was corroded, poss due to (acidic) pine needles"? Therefore replaced with a galv. This is what they say; Landrover Defender 90 300Tdi GALVANISED chassis. Professionally rebuilt on new galvanised chassis in 2007. Chassis is completely rust free. 115,700 miles. MOT end August 2013. Taxed until June 2013. EGR removed and silicone pipes added. Full exhaust, suspension and brake systems new in 2007. Load area fully chequer plated. Galvanised steering guard. Twin rear work lights. Dog guard and roof bars included. Speaker boxes installed in rear with Sony stereo. Toad alarm and immobiliser. 300tdi engine never missed a beat in 6 years of ownership. Driven daily and completely reliable. Cosmetic surface rust bubbles on doors and some panels. Driver's seat has rip. Bumper has surface rust.
  3. Pass, Western. It looks like it has text on it, I will open it up in PS and have a closer look. The seller said he had it done professionally, so could it be a 'makers mark'?
  4. I have not got as far as asking for docs yet, it is a 200 mile round trip to see it, so I am doing some research (bugging the forum) forum before I take it to stage two.
  5. Thank you Blippie. There was me thinking it was gonna last forever and I would be able to shave in it!
  6. Hi, I am looking at a landy where the owner says the he replaced the chassis with a galvanised one in 2007. It does not look shiny like a galv chassis to me and is there rust in the second pic? Any help gratefully received...
  7. Admittedly that is quite cool, but I do not want to join the 'Navarro Club'.
  8. I have been looking at some nice security options available from Xeng. I particularly like the floor plate thingy, but feel that I would want that and something more visible like the gear/diff locking thingy too.
  9. Re seating: Future proofing: yes, we will need the extra seating capability but do not want to drive something as big as a 110. Happy to retro-fit a standard 90 with two forward-facing seats. I am trying to cut down on the gardening so large tools (pole-cutters/12ft ladders) storage is not a long term consideration, other than a few tools and saddles etc. I/we want windows in the back, but accept that this is all do-able later. I am not wildly mechanically skilled, and so am looking for something that will last for a while, whilst I skill up.
  10. Ok, I am picking up on the fine print. Thank you Wabbit and Toady. I clearly have a lot to learn, but also ask that, if this is my first buy, is it a wrong-un? TD5's I hear are being nicked left/right/centre - a neighbour of mine has been troubled. I am not needing LEZ, I just need a 'solid' 'reliable' work machine for my gardening and photography work - possibly hanging some telescopic camera-pole-type-thingy of the roof/back and some dobbin shifting.
  11. Ok, got the Alpine bit. The head-lining seemed to be continuous even if it was not as it should be. The roof dents, I see now from the photos, but I have yet to view one that has not got an imperfection. Thank you for looking at this; I ask again, does it matter that it is not a true CSW for insurance or resale purposes?
  12. Is it a problem that it is not a true CSW? I will have to google this whole alpine window thing as I cannot see what you are talking about. Are you saying the back has been added because of the lash points on the tub?
  13. This has had a new rear cross-member and it would appear to have been done correctly. Re the underbody, I will if poss, get someone to check it over for me.
  14. It will be short distances with the dobbin. At the mo, nothing predicted beyond a 10-15 mile radius, unless my other half manages to turn her lumpy, hairy cart-horse into a show-winner!...
  15. Thank you Mr Wabbit, you have clearly massively scrutinised the pictures and I thank you for that. I had a look this morning and clambered about and went underneath and tapped and prodded and all (to my limited eye) seemed ok. I looked at the swivels and the UJ's and the fluids, the chassis and the suspension, the doors, the engine compartment, the bulkhead (all with a limited, but ever-increasing eye). If I pursue, I would like to take someone who knows more about these machines thank I do. My bro (Madcowz) has sadly moved to Scotland so I can't ask him. The rear view mirror was there, but in the dash. The tyres and the pin, I had not noted. Thank you again for your help.
  16. Thank you for your help Heds, muchly appreciated. Radio 1? Really?.....
  17. The link for the landy currently under scrutiny. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201236483874796/sort/default/usedcars/fuel-type/diesel/seller-type/trade_adverts/price-from/4000/price-to/6000/model/defender/make/land_rover/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/keywords/90/page/1/radius/100/postcode/rh202jl?logcode=p
  18. Sammy, I think my bro 'Madcowz' has one in his 110, give him a shout. He will have pictures for you. Ross
  19. Thanks. Still looking about and defo going Diesel/90. Looked at one this morning that was 1996 107,000 300tdi for £5,995. A bit more than I was hoping to spend, but will for the right one. Condition was good above and below. Does the price look ok? It was with 'Countrwide 4x4' in Uckfield anyone had any dealings? R.
  20. Thanks guys for all your help. We have decided to leave the petrol and keep looking based on the overwhelming advice from the forum and other contacts via my bro Madcowz. I have driven a few and am happy with the rattly, cramped conditions! Thanks all. Ross
  21. Hi guys, I am looking at buying a 90 and have seen one in great condition, but it is a petrol and I have heard that this may not be great for towing horses and actually moving at any great speed. Please could you all have a look at the link and let me know your thoughts? http://www.walton-motors.co.uk/land-rover-defender-90-25-petrol-station-wagon-only-97000-in-cranliegh-surrey-2372894 Chassis great, interior great. Test drive - it moved (sorry, not an expert) Cheers, Ross
