  1. are you trying to replace a 200tdi alrready in a Def or build one onto a chassis or something else?

in answer to above Yes it will all go but the gbox will be further back due to the different bell housings so you would need to fabricate your own transmission cover and the gear sticks would be in a different place.

I think you would then need to reposition the T box on different mounts if you went this way as it sits back further and then get props to sort.

If you already have a def g and t box then leave them in place use a def bell housing tdi or td and fit the disco engine to that.

difficult to cover all the angle as not sure what you currently have available or are trying to do.

    Thanks for the replys.

Basically I am building a defender from the ground up. I have a 200tdi 90 chassis and bodywork etc. I want to fit a 200tdi engine from a disco, as they are far cheaper than defender ones. Therefore I have the option of buying any combination of defender / disco bits in order to make it work. I am not able to weld, so I cant move engine mounts, and I don't really want to be making transmission tunnels and so forth.

So basically if I get a disco 200tdi engine, and defender bell housing, transfer box and gearbox it will all fit together nicely? I know I will have to buy a steve parker kit etc.

BTW I am only 16 so please excuse my lack of knowledge.

    Thanks, Tom.

  2. Hi

Not sure if this is in the right place, but here goes.

Will a 200tdi discovery engine with gearbox and transfer box, fit straight onto a 200tdi defender chassis - i.e. are the mounts in the right place? Will I need to fit a Steve Parker exhaust system (downpipe) - as people fitting 200tdi's into TD defenders have done? Are their any other complications I will come across?

    Thanks in advance, Tom.

  3. Hi

My father has a 1994 300tdi Discovery. If it hasnt been started for day or two, it smokes badly when you start it up. It continues to smoke for about 5-10mins, and after that there is no smoke at all. The engine runs sweetly, and their is no nasty sounds coming from the engine. The smoke is white.

Does anyone know what is causing this, or is it normal?

    Thanks in advance, Tom.

  4. Yes, 300 and 200 mounts are in a different place, and the bits welded to the chassis are diffeent as well (although the rubbers are similar, as tony shows)

    Thankyou everyone for your help.

Diesel jim - I'm finding it hard to understand your diagrams, so I found the camera and took some pictures.

Can you tell from these pictures?

  5. Hi all.

My first post here so here goes.

I have a Land rover 90 tdi chassis, but its not original, i.e. it is a replacement. I'm not sure if it has engine mounts for a 200 or 300 tdi. Does anyone have any pics of either, so I can identify what mine are?

    Thanks, Tom.
