  1. Yes the 11.8v reading was ignition on, engine off; but it started at 12.4v and dropped to 11.8 over a few minutes I would expect the glowplugs to take their bit of required power and when at heat the relay turns off and the voltage rises, but the voltage kept on dropping to the 11.8 level. I will try it again and also put my tester on the battery to see if they match. The wire to the gauge is quite thin so I dont think attaching it to a the thicker white wire will do much. Thanks for your input Ralph. Mark.
  2. Ralph, I have fitted the volt meter today to the suggested white wire, although there were a few, but I tested it first and it seemed to do the job, it was a thin gauge wire. Anyhow, I put the new gauge on the battery terminals and the battery was showing 12.4v and when the engine was running it was 14.4v. When I connected it to the white wire turned off but with ignition on it started at 12.4v but steadily dropped down to 11.8v when the engine was running it was reading up to 14.7V and dropped slightly to 14.5v with acceleration. Does this seem ok to you, what power could be lost when off connected to the white wire and gain more when running? possible drain somewhere, but nothing was on, power dropped to 14.2v with 500W of lights on. I’m not to fussed as it’s there mainly to monitor the alternator return Any ideas?
  3. So it will be in the wiring loom even if no gauge is fitted? Cheers Ralph.
  4. 70MPH, I wish LOL Fair point on the oil temp, I did not realise it altered that much once up to running temperature, as mentioned my gauge is out and the fan does not kick in so for piece of mind I want to fit a water temp gauge. So on your oil temp gauge, what is hot and what is not?
  5. Thanks Ralph, can you remember if it was white and some other colour as I guess there may be more than one white?????
  6. You will find this with quite a few LR products, I needed a rocker shaft spacing bush, there are only 5 in the engine but sold in packs of 10, reverse gear plunger bearing and retention clips both again in packs of 10. If the dealer does not expect to sell them often they will not want to stock them. So yes it is right!!!!!
  7. Ralph, should I be monitoring the return from the alternator and if so would the (white wire) do this?
  8. Cheers Ralph, I am going to fit the Water temp and volt first to see it they work ok if so I may go for the others.
  9. Bushes They dont have the Shaft peddle listed but give them a call. John Craddocks
  10. I know it's obvious, but get smaller dish spot lights Your bumper must either sit back miles or the spots are dustbin lids
  11. Each to their own, the reason I want a water temp gauge is that I do not run a viscous fan, I use the X-Eng thermostat but it has never kicked in, I changed the (Block only) to a disco unit and even thought it is still the Defender temp sender it has never been the same, thus the reason for an accurate temp gauge. Oil may come at a later stage if I was comping...
  12. Good Man Tony. British all the way
  13. ok, i've got back up now. very nice gauges there Dave but i'm looking a bit cheaper than that. I was going to fit a top mud pod and have water temp, oil pressure, oil temp and volt, but thinking about it, do I need oil temp? ok there will be a reason, I have an oil pressure light built in already, my temp gauge don't know what day it is, so swap that and I have a spare position for a volt meter. £36 for both See Here
  14. Thanks Ralph, I will take a look at it, but it does look a bit long as Rick say's. Do you know the diameter of the gauges in the dashboard of a defender, I was thinking of a Mud Top console but might replace the orginals if they fit.
  15. I am looking at fitting some LCD gauges in my D90 200TDi, I am looking at volt, water temp, oil pressure, but also oil temp now IIRC there is no gauge for this at the moment is there anywhere I can plumb one in easily?
  16. Untill you try you never know, I would soak it in WD40 24/48hrs before hand, a press or large vice will be need for an easier job.
  17. I used for brake disk cleaner from Wurth, it cleaned it out in no time really good stuff.
  18. Hi All. I am looking to fit some storages boxes to the rear of my D90 TC, I was wondering if anyone knew of a company in the Midlands that could make this up for me? I want it similar to Ced's but with drop ins for the waffle boards. Anyone know of a place
  19. Hi Geoff, I am in Coleshill J4 of M6. It's just one of those things, I swapped the rear axle for a Disco 1 unit the old defender axle came of no problem but this one has been a pig, I work on my own so can be fun at times, I do need to get hold of a long bar to be honest, also need to find a press near by to get the old ball joint out, I don't think it's gone but as the bushes need changing I might as well do it.
  20. Or drop a spacer in by the looks of it???????
  21. Will a Disco 2 FRONT PROPSHAFT - TVB000110 petrol I think fit a Defender 200tdi? can it be adapted?
  22. Hi Russ, tried that I have even jacked the truck up on the balljoint shaft and give it a hammer, but it likes it where it is.
  23. As title, is there a special splitter or larger size for the A frame ball joint, I only have what I would call a standard splitter, if they are available who sells them please.
  24. My vote is for North Off Road and Protection and Performance, the latter is what I use.
