  1. I ended up sending the range rover to my local garage as i didnt have time and need the vehicle for work. Turns out it was one of the sensors on the back left of the engine manifold, all running perfectly now. can anyone recommend some tyres for using in snow? and what size can i fit with standard suspension? thanks colin
  2. Thanks for the info, when i switch on the ignition on i can hear the pump kicking in for a second or two so im guessing its got power and at least trying to pump! engine does stall if you rev it then let it idle? colin
  3. Thanks for all the replies, I have been back out in the rangie and found that it surges in neutral too! so im guessing its a problem with fuel starvation somewhere? any ideas or help gratefully accepted as im not used to the complexities of the V8 as i have always had a tdi 90 and only just moved onto petrol's! colin
  4. totally forgot the important info: 1991 3.9 V8
  5. Only had my rrc for a couple of weeks and within 2 hours of purchasing it the oil pipe from the torque converter (in the gearbox) to the oil cooler broke and all the hydraulic fluid leaked and i limped back to the garage! got the car back thursday and its been driving fine until 1 hour ago when it started driving like it was on kangaroo fuel (jumping between 1000 - 2000rpm constantly), at first for only 10 seconds but by the time i got home it was doing it all the time! if i pulled over for a minute and then carried on it would be fine for 30 seconds before starting again (kangarooing along at 5-10 mph)! i did take a look in the engine bay and found a plug lying loose at the front passenger side of the engine bay (2 female spade type) and i also notice a twin male connector on an oil pipe leading to the oil cooler without any plug on it so i connected the two together but didnt make any difference! Also have had a belt squealing int eh bay every so often, but dont know if thats related? Has anyone got any ideas whats making the car do this? could it be a fuel issue or gearbox? and does it sound like that connector goes onto the oil pipe? any help greatly appreciated, especially with 15cm of snow and work 30 miles away! colin
  6. We have a new style 2003 range rover diesel vogue, after driving round for anywhere from 15mins to 2hours the suspension system locks in normal position and hdc inactive and another pop up on the lcd. we have had the car into the dealership in aberdeen who are a waste fo time with no success and our local friendly garage couldnt figure out the fault either. we have changed the pump for suspension and new battery but are not getting anywhere. has anyone seen this fault before? colin

  8. Hello all, i am looking to tow my large trailer and my mini digger (1.5 tonne) with my 1986 90 which has a defender 200tdi fitted. i am not too concerned about the power as i can improve this with a larger intercooler but i am a little worried about the brakes being up to the job (disks at teh front and drums on the back). whats the best option for improving the braking capacity? should i get the rear axle changed for a later one? what weight can a 90 tow? colin
  9. Evening all, i have a 200tdi defender engine trnsplanted into my old TD 90, it runs very well but i struggle to get above 60 and it doesnt pull that well up hills, is this normal? could this be because i still have the 1986 TD gearbox fitted? what would you all recommend? fit a larger intercooler and different transfer box? colin
  10. Evening all, finaly got my 90 back on the road after fitting a defender 200tdi, took it for a test drive tonight and it is blowing a shed load of whitish smoke. the previous owner told me that he had a full intercooler fitted and had turned up the relevant bits for increased power. i have held some kitchen roll on the exhaust and it comes away absolutely spotless, so its not oily at all. anyone got any advice? can i down tune the engine myself? if so can anyone help with what i need to do and where to set the different settings too? colin
  11. I fitted a 200tdi defender engine into my 90 and it blows whitish smoke when i accelerate. the previous owner has said that he had tuned it with a large intercooler, can anyone tell me how to take the settings back to standard? colin
  12. Afternoon all, tried to bleed my power steering system today but it keeps foaming up in the reservoir and bursts out of the hole in the cap when i accelerate! i started the engine and bled through the nipple and then turned the steering from side to side. am i doing this wrong? colin

  15. morning all, can anyone tell me the best way to remove the top plate from my 6 bolt power steering box? i need to change over the top plates as my bleed nipple sheared of in the hole. I can get the 6 bolts out no probs but how do you remove the centre nut? and are there any special proceedures that need to be taken so as to not screw up the steering? colin
  16. thanks for the advice, i think my steering box is an earlier version as i have 6 bolts around the top and one large nut in the middle? colin
  17. Morning all, i sheared of the bleed nipple on my power steering box when chaing out my engine, and then consequently snapped the screw retractor in the nipple when i was trying to remove it! i know have both the remnants of the bleed nipple and the screw retractor stuck in the top plate, as such i am needing to remove the cover and take it to a shop to get removed. Does anyone know if the nut on the top is reverse thread or not? will it do any harm removing this? anyone got any ideas how to remove these items before i dismantle the box? the vehicle is an 1986 TD 90 and has an early power steering box with lots of bolts holding the top plate on (and its a 4 bolt unit). thanks colin

  24. I have this problem with my 90, when building it i didnt use any shims on the bulkead brackets that fit to the footwells and as such my drivers door doesnt align properly. I would recommend getting some of the shims as they are very cheap and it will be a lot easier to fit now. http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listi...head&page=1 hope this link helps colin
  25. its a defender 200tdi and not a discovery one, do i still have to lower the mounts? any pics would be greatly appreciated. colin
