  1. Ok, ok guys......... There are simca portal axles going on in the next week or so, i have no steering at the moment either as it was LHD and i have converted to RHD and fitted defender steering colum and PAS box for hydro assist steering gearbox and T box are series and running a Daihatsu 2.8 td with a few mods, project should be near done towards end of July...... For the lift, as above tell the requirements and we'll let you know..... Ex MOD shackles are longer and would provide some lift......
  2. Here's erm longer shackles, home made in minuites.... Parabolic springs on and erm some of the tub chopped.... I was running parabolics and military shackles with 265/75/r16's on no probs.... Shackles would be quick, easy and cheap...?
  3. I have had number plates on my roof rack bonnet and bulkhead vent on different vehicles and never benn stopped or had a problem.... However i was almost not allowed to compete after an RAC scrutineer pulled me up about my plate being on the bulkhead vent as Number plates are not allowed to be above the headlights..........???? On another occasion i was stopped for having no number plate and explained i kept breaking it on the bumper and showed the broken plate i had behind my seat, the officer told me to get a stick-on plate for my bumper and gave me his id number incase i had problems..........??? Who knows whats right, as long as you've got one i guess.....
  4. Ah well folks, thats it done..... simcas are on their way..... :P I'll start putting on updates with axles stripped etc once i get em and pull them to bits.....
  5. I'm no expert well i know nothing really about the mogs, however they seem difficult and expensive to fit in comparison to the simcas....??
  6. Yes, afraid so.... They're getting harder and harder to source and the price is £**** scarey then i see things like..... And loose interest even more My thoery at the moment is i havent seen broken Simcas or heard of any BIG, HEAVY= Strong???? Give me a diamond to stick in my pocket for a day and i'll return it as sand..... So strong is good....
  7. Yeah, sounds like a UJ or clutch release bearing... Check your UJs for any play first....
  8. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=26309&hl= Because i have such a big offset and will end up being bigger once i have attached the axle to my rims.....
  9. I would go for them on 15x10" rims with a minimum of 3" offset to make sure there is no fouling... What lift are you running...? You may have to cut a little off of the rear of your wings thats all.......
  10. I still feel myself swinging more to the SIMCA axles as they're what i have looked into most and seem to be most cost effective, even with effectivley buying three axles too gain locking diffs front and rear they come in under a grand, Mog U1300's look like they'd need alot of work with the diff off-sets so think i'll give them a miss, still quite interested in the Rockwells tho even at £1600 they look huge and seem easyer to adapt my rims to fit the problem is getting a second rear diff for the front axle.... I have a 10" offset on 15"x13" rims so will need crazy adaptors for the drums on the simcas and will have to guard the drop boxes i think...... DECISIONS............... DECISIONS............ DECICIONS............... Grrrrr Opinions people.......? Just go for the Simcas and get it sorted.....????
  11. I would say the rubber would take out most of that gap and a chunkier door rubber/seal would sort that....? Good luck
  12. There is definatly a rubber between door top and bottom on my series LRs but have never stuck one on a 90/110 to know, how big is the gap....?
  13. I must be blind or stupid or both, i cant find the rr on simcas or the Mog axles for sale... Could you stick links in if you know where they are..... THANKYOU....................!!
  14. Right guys, i've been looking at Simca portal axles from the Sumb coming in at £900 for 1 complete front, 1 complete rear and a second rear centre to give me a locking diff in the front price includes postage on two pallets...... Then there are the Rockwell portals from the Renault TRM 2000 Front axle £900 with no diff lock and rear £750 these are a bit closer to home so would be collection and no delivery... There is a Renault TRM 2000 not to far from me i'm going to go and poke around at in the next week before making a decision.... Does anyone know much about the weight, ratios and all the gubbins of the Rockwell portals how easy/difficult to stick to a landrover....? And what about the torque tube vs prop-shaft issue....? There doesn't seem to be a hell of alot of information on these applications available anywhere.... Spares availability is good for either axle, it has to be one or the other and will be purchased in the next week to two weeks.....? The only other thing was the estate that has the renault mentioned there was a scrap one lieing in a farmers field rotting away which i'm going to try find and see if a bargain is possible....? Any information, thoughts, theorys, tech stuff anything would be appreciated thanks.........
  15. I bought the hydro assist steering kit from straight forward supplys got arsed around a bit but f**k that......... Its done now.... I took the set up to a local hydraulics agent (hendry hydraulics) (Elgin) who quoted me £40 for them to make the same ram and ends and i have a friend with an engineering company who could've made up the hoses from off-cuts just paying for the ends.... So if SFS had given me dimensions and info i would have been able to do this pretty cheaply..........!!! I dont have the kit fitted yet as am still awaiting delivery of the portals before i can decide on and fabricate a set up..... pics will be posted i expext it too be another 6 wks to 2 months tho.....
  16. Has anybody got a few pictures of a drilled and tapped steering box they could post...... Thanks, i will then get my hydro kit set up and post pictures of how i set it up on a LHD series 2....
  17. Have you got a website for that or contact number....??? And does anyone have any good pictures of kits fitted especially the PAS box.....??? I am fitting it to a LHD series 2 tho......
  18. Sorry guys, again unimpressed with straight forward supplies "customer service" I called to talk about the hydro assist steering... And surprise i got through, only at odd out of hours times have i been able to get thru tho... In the first instance Tim was very unhelpfull not giving me any of the information about the product ie, dimentions fitting ect.... It arrived quickly however there were no fittings or brackets and the ram looked used and had bits of metal in it......!!!! Eventually 3 weeks later the rest of the parts arrived after numerous e-mails and phone calls.... I still have not recieved any pictures of the kit fitted or any guidance on drilling and tapping the steering box....... NOT IMPRESSED......!!!! Buggy so far.....
  19. WHat gear boxes are you guys running with the Nissan SD33...?? Have any of you tried the Aussie bolt on turbo kit...???
  20. Anyone know where i can pick-up a pair of low ratio 101 salisbury axles.............???? Desparatly require casings and diffs......
