  1. There is no difference in the part numbers for eco and "non eco" (Part no: LR012598). It's interesting though that we have two FL2 in the family an 08 reg with 93K miles and a 10 reg "eco" with 35K and it's the younger one that has had the problem.

  2. I have a 10 reg FL2 with 35K miles, last week it stopped and the AA diagnosed the fault as Throttle Body failure, they managed to get it going and I limped home. Evidently this is a common problem especially on the "eco" series that has the auto stop/start. The diagnosis was confirmed by the local LR independent garage and new item was fitted and cured the problem but I asked for the old unit and the attached photos show the source of the trouble ie that the grease seems to dry out and then you get stripped teeth on the nylon gears. It would be nice if replacement gears could be found. Has anyone any suggestions on how to source them? The unit costs £99 plus vat so would be useful as a spare in case it happens again. (or just turn off the eco function perhaps?)

  3. For a start I had already bought silver ones and didn't know where the genuine ones were fitted, I fitted the outer two thinking that I might get away with just two but found that there was a dead zone in the centre so had to position the others lower due to the presence of the internal bumper. OK, I screwed up and hindsight is a wonderful thing, I asked for advice on this forum a few weeks ago on this topic - pity you didn't come forward then. Anyway I can always spray the centre ones black but on a base model Freelander it's not going to make much difference to it's value.

  4. I thought that others might find this interesting since I spent about half a day musing over where to position my sensors.

I have just fitted some cheap ebay reversing sensors to my Freelander 2. They only cost £11.80 inc postage and work fine and take their power from a reversing light. The problem is how to position them since there is steel bumper behind most of the silver painted area in the picture. I decided to put them as shown in the image. They seem to work OK but If I was doing it again I would move the two outer ones further out slightly so that they are looking slightly sideways and probably put them all on the lower bumper (and buy black ones).

  5. As I do a lot of off road work I decided that a proper spare was required in my FL2 so I bought the steel landrover one off ebay, it's a 225/65r17. Someone mentioned to me recently that I need to get a different set of wheel bolts in order to fit it as my current bolts are for the alloys. To save me the trouble of swapping wheels etc to test this out does anyone have any views on this?

    Thanks

  6. Has anyone got experience of fitting one of these to a FL2? like where is a good place to pick up the power for it? These things don't take much current so I was thinking of just linking in to one of the reversing light bulb's wiring. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Dennis

  7. Hello I have an 08 reg Freelander which has recently started to make juddering noise (from the engine area) on pulling away (forward or reverse). It's done 85K miles and had an MOT two weeks ago with no advisories. The clutch feels OK so we tried pulling away with the bonnet open and it's not obvious where it's coming from except that the air cleaner assembly seemed to rattle a bit (but not obviously loose). Any thoughts? Top engine mounting seems OK and car seems fine when it's going.

    Thanks Dennis

  8. Just got my 04 reg TD4 freelander 1 through MOT, only comment was that the rear tyres were very near the limit (true) and that the front ones were getting perished but had a lot of wear left on them. The garage didn't sell tyres so didn't try to spin me a yarn about needing to get them all replaced to pass the MOT. However the guy did say that I ought to replace all of them at the same time as it's good practice on a Freelander (but bad for the wallet). So given that you can't get Michelin Synchrones these days what is the current thinking on tyres? I only do about 8K miles/year and do mostly road use with a bit of rough terrain ocassionally.

  9. Thanks for that, just for clarity can you have a look at this image? I assume that we are talking about the item ringed in red. Are there two pumps in a TD4? I understand that there is one in the fuel tank already. Also what would I order if I wanted a replacement, I can't see anything that looks like this on any of the ebay suppliers.

  10. Hello, I have a TD4 SE 2004 reg 84K miles. I was checking it over today prior to the MOT and had the rear driver's side wheel off checking the rear brake shoes and noticed a wire hanging down behind the wheel arch cover. I removed the wheel arch cover to expose what you can see in the image below. Does anyone know what this wire is for? The connector still has the remains of a rusty spade terminal in it but I can't see where it came from. The car seems to run OK and there are no warning lights on. Thanks.

  11. I understood that the issue here is that unless you have a real reason for one ie you are a beef farmer or work in a safari park then you might find that your insurance is invalidated by having one and it counts as a vehicle modification (like the stupid one about winter tyres leading to higher premiums). Equally in the case of an accident you are open to being sued by the other party since you have negated the pedestrian friendly/impact absorbtion features designed into your car.

I wonder if those false eye lashes you see on some young girls' cars around the headlights are in the same category?

  12. Just had the Freelander 2 serviced and noticed the attached in the footwell below the glovebox. Haven't been back to the garage yet (it's a long way to go). Glovebox now drops down so it's some sort of damper and I think that a bit has broken off the end. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

it's got 6H52-F06066 and LandRover logo printed on it
