  1. I agree with steve a, the majority of the postings in the international forum are Uk based, we do not have Sva where I live and so this is a whole area which means nothing to me.

Personally I do not post too many tech questions to this site as the dreaded sva usually rears it head if anyone even wants to discuss chassis modifications.

  2. I have a 300tdi auto disco which I want to take the engine and auto box out of in one unit if possible, what the best way of doing this? will it swing forward or will I need to drop the unit down? lifting gear will not be an issue

    Thanks

  3. I know i live in a different part of the world, however we looked into doing this a few years ago and were told that rims needed certification by a bonded automotive engineer after they were done and the truck needed to be retested. There was a company here which used to do rims but now will only do plant and offroad rims now. I would also feel buying ready made rims with the right offset would be as cheap as getting the welding done properly.

  4. Just a thought , has the power steering pump on the engine been changed? there are a few different types of pumps.

As for the torsion bars I have offroaded trucks for a good while with oversized tyres, using a 4 bolt steering box the truck has been through the wars and the steering box never gave any trouble except leak out the lower seal.

  5. Not good enough.

For example the local vehicle inspectorate at the biannual 'MOT'. If LR said it is OK

that's good enough for them, an article in a magazine isn't.

We have a DOE test for commercial vehicles which is stringent enough, we have a truck which has a 2inch lift and 35 inch tyres, modified suspension, with a 4.2 tdi diesel which sailed through the local test a few weeks ago. however speaking to a friend of mine who is a retired barrister, he suggested if there was a landrover built to the same spec as ours by landrover and if we could get a copy of the documentation we could prove the modifications were done to a landrover standard.

  6. Thanks for all the replies, what I am looking for is a spec/modification sheet from landrover for the mods they did to this truck, if I can get this and ensure that any mods to my truck are to this spec essentially it means the mods would be to a landrover spec and would ensure that there would be no problems with the truck should anyone question the mods done.

  7. Talk to Simon at Devon 4x4. They supplied tyres, wheels and a lot of other parts for both Big Foots.

Thanks for that, however I was wondering if landrover would have a specific document which would cover the build of that truck, specs, part no's of parts used etc?
