  1. Recently done the same thing. And had similar problems. I flushed the rad out with a hose pip as knew the radiator wasn't too good. Lots of brwon rusty water came out which was good. I am going flush it again back and forth to dislodge stuff.

  2. Well I had the rad and intercooler out today as had access to a hose pipe and flushed through the rad and got nasty rusty colour water out. Put it all back together and the engine is definately running cooler and runs at half way on the gauge now. I know the Rad is a bit tired so will keep an eye on it and replace it soon.

    I have also order the X-eng fan switch so will wire that up to the electric fan.

  3. Thanks to everyone who helped. The tech archive was most useful and I probably wouldn't have tried the conversion without seeing pictures and others write ups.

    The engine is in and runs well and am very happy with it.

    Question now is which temp sender and gauge should i use. I currently have the sender and gauge from the 2.5petrol in it and this reads above normal and just below the black. Is this due to the diesel running hotter and hence gauge reading wrong. I know the engine is not over heating as when it came out of the discovery it was reading normal, and in the defender it reaches remains at the same so the thermostat is working.

  4. Right I have got the new engine in and done various jobs on it. Now I have a few questions.

    On the glow plug relay which I took off the discovery to put into my originally petrol land rover. The loom has 3 wires. Obviously power. an earth? and other??

    Also with the fuel system. I have plumbed it all in copying off the discovery. But is the fuel pump in the tank still needed. Can i leave it in there working or should I remove it/unplug it.

    Also does the system need bleeding and if so how??

  5. Ok thanks for that. I was going to buy the exhaust as saves the hassle etc. but my mate said we would be able to make one up quite easily. But granted it is a pain getting it right and putting engine in and out, hence if i could copy one i would, as leaves more money in the student beer fund! But easy option it is then.

  6. Once my exams finish next week I will be stripping a Discovery and putting the engine in my 2.5 petrol 90. Have read the various write up's people have done so far and they are very helpful. Only thing i haven't seen is what i need to do to the fuel tank as most people have swapped diesel for diesel. So do i need to get a new tank, or just run a return to my current tank and remove the fuel pump as it is not needed.

    Also the other question is does anyone have a diagram/measurements for the down pipes they have made or made more than and would like to sell me? I know steve parker sell the exhaust down pipes but at £123 :o it seem a bit excessive for a short piece of exhaust.

  7. Hi Mark

    I have got a couple of diffs, either in complete axles or the diffs on their own. Currently on 1993 Discoverys. Only problem is that they are the wrong end of the country for you. They are currently in Warrington near liverpool.

    Good luck fixing it for the Mike Wolfe.

    If i didn't have these dam exams i would have brought them down and bitched for you

  8. I am also in the sefton park area just up the hill student halls of residences until June. I would be up for a bit of laning or off road sites after exams as i haven't done any up here yet. Just use many cunning ideas to put people off, both visual and immobilsing/hidden. As it is off streat parking is it possible to put a security post up behind the land rover at night? i know this will not be possible if you don't own the land.

  9. Big thank you to all those involved in the organisation and running of the event, had a great time and made it back in one piece :) . Even though i only knew people from the forum the club made us feel welcomed. Learnt not to follow marshals when you are trying to get back to the start in time for closing as they take the hard route which involves winching :rolleyes:

    Thanks to Mark and Adrian for letting us team up with them, seemed to work well as a team and had a great time, made it more intersting approach with a 2wd range rover with us.

  10. Is anyone doing any lanes before Seven Sisters at the weekend. I am coming down from liverpool on friday, so any lanes on the way would be good but seeing as i dont have any maps(winch bitch has those atm) was wondering if anyone is doing any lanes. Anyone doing lanes near the campsite etc on friday afternoon that wouldn't mind me meeting up and tagging along would be great as i wont be much help with the navigation.

  11. While we are on the subject of Proshafts.

    I am having am hopefully having a wide angle propshaft made by the propshaft clinic. They want the measurement from flange to flange. I have got this as 67cm. Measuring the prop off the vehicle fully compressed it was 65.5cm. Full length I am unsure of as the two parts seperated and unsure where full travel is.

    Vehicle is a 2.5 petrol 90. So transferbox is bolted to the standard lt77 lt230 combination. Does anyone have the length on record just to check i have measured it correctly before i order. The new shaft will have a 7cm sliding joint. So i prsume from 67cm that would be 3.5 cm each way.

  12. Ah right I miss understood, or confused everyone. I need a new rear propshaft, but it seems it is only the front propshafts that have changed on TD5's.

    I will probably just go for a standard rear propshaft as can't justify the cost of a wide angle propshaft at the moment and I can't see myself spending more money on suspension mods for quite a long time.

  13. Thought i would ask here as there is a post already.

    My rear prop has gone, so needs replacing, so am looking at:

    A ) pattern part £60 (but have haven't had good experience with these(sliding joint on the front prop wore quickly.)

    B ) GKN propshaft for £80 plus +VAT.

    C ) wide angle prop as i have a 2inch or so lift plus increased articulation. I don't think the prop binds at the moment but i may do further mods to it in the future.

    So where is good to buy a wide angle prop, I have seen Qt have them and propshaft clinic have a good reputation. As i need to get a new prop ASAP (well delivered within less than 2weeks.)

  14. Cheers Steve. I was going to but I am now doing seven sister 2 weeks before though so should get enough of an off road fix. Would like to come laning but probably not going to make that as am going home that weekend for easter as get kicked out of student digs for easter, so will have all my stuff with me.

    Just wondering if there are any other i can do inbetween times. when i get a quiet weekend.

  15. I should probably start another thread for this but where abouts in North Wales are there any good lanes. I am at uni in liverpool, and will have the Land Rover up here in march, so am looking at doing some lanes not too far away. Just wondering which areas are likely to have most lanes and which maps to buy. Or any others in the liverpool area.

  16. Looks like you like deep water so a snorkel, and raised breather pipes, for axles, transfer box and gearbox would be pretty high up my list. Also dont forget to seal the air filter. There are threads on here about that.

    Main thing is enjoy it and you will gradually find out what you need or want for it.
