  1. windows are not an MOT point, so no worries there.

odds are it's one of two things. first is the inhibitor switch pressed in? do they work on the front switches, or not at all? if none of the switches make them work, then it's the window ECU. this is a little black box of tricks behind the glovebox, next to the ABS ecu (if you have it). there will be a couple of dry solder joints in there stopping the relays from operating the windows.

do a search for window ecu on here, or have a look at the fix click me here

  2. it's surprising what can cause it these days......most things if you believe the men in white coats (the scientific ones, not the doctor ones :) )

anyone else notice how most of this stuff is all labelled as "...known by the State of California to possibly cause...."?

that was my point, it's always something to do with California, be it the big C, hybrid <cough> cars, or anything else for that matter

  3. it usually stipulates for fully comp that you are covered to drive any vehicle not belonging to you that has it's own insurance policy, in which case you are only covered third party - which is the minimum standard.

What I meant was would I be covered if I drove Fred's car on my insurance (any car with permission cover) but Fred didn't have a current policy for that car.

no, you wouldn't be covered, because the owner of the car does not have a policy on that vehicle.

a good site to go to for temp cover is www.tempcover.com who specialise in supplying anything from 1 day upwards - quite pricey, but useful to know.

  4. did think about this before getting the 300tdi disco, but it worked out too expensive to have a 2nd car, as the disco is averaging the same as my Sierra 2.0 was on the daily commute ~ 32mpg, so wouldn't really gain anything, especially now that the gap between petrol and diesel prices has narrowed so much. plus it gets used 7 days a week for all sorts (baling at the moment)

  5. You can only get a vehicle off a SORN by getting an MOT

Surely you mean by taxing it? as the SORN relates to the road tax, not mot.

personally speaking it's just not worth the risk for all the reasons mentioned - £200 for a transporter is bound to be cheaper than £60 fine, plus the potential for all sorts of other complications and fines etc if you manage to rearrange the rear end of a eurobox.

  6. Get well soon Bish, had mine out when i was 10 yrs old - got a month off school too.

my vote goes with the technic lego, design some new fancy suspension systems - or get a decent r/c kit off ebay and build a miniature version of your own truck.

pity the weather is going to be cooler this week, bird watching on weston beach sounds like perfect recuperation.

  7. it will be the flasher unit playing up. had the same on my old 200tdi, indicators worked fine, but the flasher light on the dash would only flash once.

the trailer light on the dash flashes once on all models - nothing to worry about there.

new relay will cure it, it's behind the fusebox cover under the column - bit of a pig to get at but certainly diy-able

  8. Took the disco to have the air con done yesterday, only to be told there was a slight leak from the pipe that runs under the coolant bottle (300 tdi, 94 model). No problem i thought, take it off, get it repaired with some new stuff we have got at work, and bung it back on.............

If only it was that simple. It turns out it's a common problem area on Disco's. Where the air con pipe is clipped to the inner wing, Landrover used a steel clip, with a rubber insulator, to hold the aluminium pipe - and we all know what happens when steel and aluminium stay in contact..........

Number 5 in the diagram, and a new one is around the £100 mark (There is a thread on here involving something similar, if you search for the part number, BTR7230). The clip that causes the problem is number 8.
