I see your rubbish campers and I offer you this gem from a year ago.
Annoyingly, it's probably more practical than most other suggestions.... But look at it.

I can measure my 3.5 V8 one that came out when I went for an aluminium one (for extortionate price) if you can wait until after the weekend.
...and probably remind me.

Outstanding design/engineering/workmanship.
I hate it.

I'm running out of ideas what else it could be, though having tried to replace some of them before I did the last rebuild (with the cylinder liners), it didn't exactly go well for my brand new cam.
The only parts remaining from it's original state are the rocker arms and valves (not the shafts or valve springs) and the pistons. It's ruining my enjoyment of driving it as it just sounds broken. I've spent a lot of money to end up with something I don't like driving.
-
I have very noisy lifters/valves/springs/rockers/I don't know what, so I'd be very interested to hear if new lifters solve it.
-
It's definitely a stud. I found a photo I took of the box when I took it off the first time... should have looked sooner.

The foam filled tyres section of the above website appears to be in latin, something along the lines of "love is pain". Not sure I see the link myself.

I agree. It's convinced me to do a lot less whinging about far smaller issues, but consequently I now don't post.

That hose looks good. The biggest problem I've had is the steel wire separating from the rubber inside the hose, or tearing the hose open the minute you trim it, you can see that's not the case from how it's holding together in the photos.
-
I would still use Turners without hesistation for bits for future rebuilds, and you can select the individual parts. I am sure some of it would make that kit look cheap, but I trust their judgement on what parts they are willing to stock for the money they charge.

That's very kind of you, but your oil will fall out of the hole!
I have ordered a stud which I'm hoping to fit tomorrow, I can't see what else it would be and why I would be missing a bolt when I've found everything else.
I really appreciate the offer but please don't go to any trouble for me.
-
Ralph, you are - as ever - a legend.
I think you're right, there is meant to be a stud in there but for whatever reason it hasn't got one now. It would make sense as I have found a mystery M10 nut while searching for this missing bolt that doesn't exist.
I will order...
Neat trick for the bolt hole length, by the way.
-
I have done something very stupid and lost a bolt which holds the gearbox and Tbox together. It's vitally important I find the right part number OR the length for the bolt, I only know it's M10.
Here it is with a stand-in bolt just to stop the oil pouring out, but without knowing the proper length I cannot be sure it has enough thread engagement or isn't too long and doing something nasty inside the box.
On this diagram, I think it's this hole circled. Note - no bolt pictured.
There is nothing shown in the holes it could be in this diagram:
I am stuck. Any help appreciated, I just need a length!

I was trying to work out the last time I was up at the Sisters. Reckon it was 12 years ago , give or take. After going twice a year or more for ten years. Obviously the weather doesn't change. I've applied for a permit for the September bash, with things looking positive.
Be interesting to see just how much it has changed. I stopped going after it became popular with the challenge scene and all the fun places had been trashed. Now that Challenge has turned to Ultra 4x4, I'm hoping at lot of the fun places have settled back to being fun again
Going by that timing, that'll be when I went with you and Mr Neale. I think you were running the event.
I would like to return to 7S, if only to test the car out in its current configuration and see what it can/cannot do. Options to not get too demanding (read: damaging) would really be what I'd look for.

I have one more place to try tomorrow hopefully but otherwise I would be interested, what Dia and length do you need?
3" and from the air filter to the plenum (60cm?) And from the wing to the filter (1m ish). 3 meters would be enough to make sure.
I think Stephen's give you a better offer though, go with that!

I had this exact problem with hose, Wyrem was only available in 30m lengths....
If you want to go halves on 6m (unsure if that leaves you with too little, or if you only need the 640mm)....

That's been on here before...or the other thread.
It's wrong yet somehow right.

I pinged the ebay ad the facebook link and he wasnt so happy - he reported it and confirmed it wasnt for breaking.
That makese sense, I couldn't work out how a cash on collection deal could be a scam. The vehicle itself could be 'dodgy', but not a scam in that sense as it relies on physical possession of the asset.

I just cycle any old clothing through a rags stash, when they become uncleanable they get binned. Still wasteful but they've replaced x number of paper towels in that time.
Socks make great polishing cloths as you can put your hand inside them and really apply pressure. Makes for a disturbing sock puppet show though.

I worry that's the same brand of Chinesium that the other kits are made of. I'll be going to a fixings supplier as suggested, it's just easier.
Can anyone confirm the actual torque figures for these, I have found wildly varying figures.

What is that air pipe made of? I'm looking at options for something that won't rip like the cheap but expensive carp I've got.

Anecdotally, that does seem to be the case. From people I know who 'deal', they're saying the selling price of middle aged vehicles has slumped. Asking prices on eBay may not reflect that (yet) though. In one case £5k for a 2004, Td5 in reasonable condition was all he could achieve, having gradulally dropped the price from £8k & it took months to sell.
A lot of TDCis that have been put on various forums/Auto Trader/Car and Classic at anywhere between 19-40k and not one has moved in over a month. There's been a couple of TDI in ridiculously nice condition that can't acheive £12k.
This time last year you could have asked £20k for a middle of the road HT or Pick Up and it would have gone without question, they're hanging around now at less money.
-
Meanwhile, the arse has well and truly dropped out of the (old) Defender market with only very late or very early models in standard, as-new condition really hitting the figures we're used to seeing.
I need to sell my Jag urgently due to the house move and that's worth a fraction of what I paid for it.
Can't win.

Well that's fairly conclusive then, I know of a very good fastner supplier locally that I can take an example nut and bolt to and ask for the same (but better).
Thanks very much for the assistance, All.

James T of 4x4 Adventures used to offer one to one tuition, he taught me how to properly control the vehicle when I first got into off road driving and if that isn't the mark of patience and understanding, I don't know what is.

It would very much be worth getting in touch with him, he runs events across the South West and one of the sites he used for tuition was in Crediton.
