Well I took the old girl out for a test this afternoon and I could get into all gears in low and high, in Low the changes were a but crunchy but I could select all gears OK. When I had the problem I was towing a Caravan so I am wondering if the problem only shows when there is extra load.

Mine used to do this all the time and I never really found the cause however, at night, I always lock mine with the key and not the fob, I think this disables a internal sensor which was tripping the alarm, the rest of the alarm function still works.

Yes exactly what I thought, it can't happen but it does I am going to have a play tomorrow but what happens is that I just cant get it to go into 3rd it feels as though something is stopping the lever moving.

Hi My 2003 TD5 Defender wont go into 3rd gear in low ratio. I am not sure when the problem started as I don't use low very often, I noticed it when I was trowing a caravan and was using low to help with maneuverability. Gears are all fine in high but I cant get above 2nd in low. Looking for advice on how to confirm what the fault is and how to solve it. Thanks

Hi All, I think my wiper motor has failed as the wipers are not working at all. Does anyone have the part number for a MY03 TD5 Defender 90 Wiper motor? there seem to be more than 1 type for defenders. My trucks SN is 3A657*** (from VIN) Thanks in advance PS is it easy to remove the wiper motor? someone told me it was a pain.

Yes breckland lrc are a good bunch, they normally do lanes on the last sunday of the month. I am hoping to be out with them on Sunday.

Thanks Western, but i am wondering if I need the whole kit or if I can just put he adjustable bit on my existing mounting? I have just found this on Ebay, I like the design as it has 2 pins but I dont know if it will fit on an TD5 90, anyone used one? adjustable tow drop plate

Hi I am toying with the idea of getting an adjustable tow bar for my 03MY TD5 90 so that i can use it to tow as well as for recovery etc. I think that the official part number is LR007221 for the 90 (and LR007222 for the 110), but there is also Part number TC50255AA (TOW BAR KIT ADJUSTABLE TD5 DEF 90) and I dont know if that replaced LR007221 or the other way round or if ther are completely different ! I already have a fixed towbar on mine and I am wondering if either of the above will fit on my truck? I cant find out what the difference is between them, but I am hoping that the plates are the same and that either will bolt onto my existing bars? Does anyone know what I need to convert my fixed bar to an adjustable one?

I would love on of those southdown ones but they don't seem to do it for the TD5 90

HI Just to add a bit for clarification to this, its the part numbers for the rubber door surrounds that I am after. Any advice on how to stop the water that pours in would also be appreciated, I have done what it suggests in the water ingress manual but I still get the waterfall down the inside of the passengers door when I start to move after rain. Its annoying and its alread susted the bottom of the door.

Hi I am looking to replace mine even though they seem OK because rather than sealing the doors and preventing water getting in they seem to act like sponges and fill up with water which then pours into the car when I move it. Are their any improved seals available? Also I need the bottom rubber seal for the back door as mine is split. Thanks.

I had to take my roof tent of a few months ago in order to go laning. It was pig of a job to get of with 2 of us as its fairly heavy and moving around the defender while trying to hold it was very difficult. Now I need to put it back on and I wondered if onyone has any tips on how to to do it? Its a MAGGIOLINA roof tent.

Hi All, well as far as diff changes are concerned OI dont know, I have owned her for about 18 Months and nothing has been changed in that period. I will have a good look at the diffs next time I get under the truck, is there any way of telling what ratios the difs have? The tyres are the same size but the fronts are definateley more worn that the rears. I will probably change the tyres fairly soon anyway as I dont like the ones on it (General Grabber TR). The slide doesnt happen all the time, mostly its fine but then suddenly it will slide and its alwasy the same way.

I dont use the diff lock very often (only when I am off road in slippery conditions) but I have noticed that sometimes when I do have it that the back of my defender slides in a strange way. It may well be that this is expected behavior but I would like to be sure. What heppens is that the back slides to the right (truck turns left), its a bit disconcerting and unpredictable. Anyone know whats happening? Its a MY03 TD5 90.

Thanks, how do you fix the jate rings on the front? A friend of mine didn't like the idea of using the tow bar for recovery, he said its dangerous, not sure why though?? However I think front recovery is probably most important for me so that's the priority.

Useful thread this, I am looking for something similar for my 03MY Td5 Defender 90. This thread has given me all I need about tyres and shackles I think but I am still uncertain what to do about recovery points. I had to be towed out of a ditch yesterday (twice actually) and we used the tie downs which I understand are not really up to it. So what the most cost effective way of providing sturdy and safe recovery points on my truck? Is it best to have 2 at each end or is a single one enough? I currently have a tow bar fitted but I might consider removing it if the best options for the rear use the tow bar mounting points. All advice on the options available and recommendations gratefully received.

Hi All, I want to take my Defender through the tunnel a few times over the next few months. Looking at their web site its a bit confusing and I am not sure what criteria they will use to charge me. My defender is a 90 and will have a roof tent on it and some bikes on a rack on the back. Eurotunnel have several categories of vehicle that might be relevant for a Defender: -Cars -Car higher than 1.85 metres -Caravans, campervans and trailers However the price is higher if they categorize it as a Camper van, the price is the same for cars whatever the height but the higher cars get put in a double height carriage. Has anyone here got any experience iof how they will charge me for my car? Thanks.

Thanks guys, that doesn't sound too bad, and anyway I cant do anything about it. Re the Dartford Tunnel, I did get caught out by that once when I didn't have any change and I used a manned lane, but now I always go through the auto toll and pay £1.50 and sometimes I even use my Dart Tag from another car ! Does anyone know if reduced speed limits apply outside the UK e.g. when driving in Europe.

I have just taxed my 2003 Land Rover Defender 90 TD5, It has 2 seats and no side windows. I had not really taken any notice before but I this time I saw that the tax was £180 and the class is LGV. I had always assumed that it was a PLG. I have done a bit of searching and to see what the consequences of being an LGV rather than a PLG are, It seems to save a few pounds onn the tax but I am concerned that it might have a downside as well. In particular am I subject to lower speed limits? Anyone know if there are any downsides and if so if its possible to be reclassified?

Landybear, did you get one? if so what did you ger and what sort of price did you pay? I am looking for somethings like a Ifor 126LM and have been watching ebay for a while, a lot on there look as though they have been very well used and not knowing too much about trailers I am starting to think a new one might be the best bet.
