  1. sounds like a sticking caliper to me- have you been through water and then parked it up for a while>
  2. well it is nice to see that the thought police have once again stuck their opinions in. Every forum i have been on has a couple of massive thread count armchair experts. Clearly they have been drawn like flies to a **** to a thread that they dont agree with. Thank you for proving a point! May i suggest that you stop writing so many negative replies to peoples ideas and get out once in a while.... love you all signing off
  3. I would definitely agree about the P38. I am not commenting on the styling of the new shapes, I do like them and wouldn't object to one in the least. I just think it is a shame that there seems to be a lack of build quality (in the drivetrain and electrics) that puts me off. I am not suggesting that we should stick to the stone ages of carbs and half a yard of electrical wiring but it certainly isnt as good long term as the new disco 3. (or a landcruiser )
  4. not really I think that LR have totally missed the point with the new RR and have lost out to the land crusier.
  5. With all this talk of P38's and that new BMW derived drugdealer wagon thing, i feel the need to upset the apple cart and suggest that the classic is a more useable car in regards to reliability and running costs. Mine is a 1984 classic with 3.9 on carbs, manual gearbox and 2" lift. Only had to replace the fueltank, waterpump, fuelpump, fuel-filler cap, tailgate but it now works! I still rather do all that than sit watching an in car computer screen telling me that the mortgage money pride and joy isn't going to make it home without the men in florescent coats. Cant imagine a L322 breaching the Darian Gap can you??? Would you trust the reliability to drive one through Africa? I do appreciate the engineering in the new rangies but i cant help thinking that they have slightly missed the point with it. What do you think? I also have been led to believe that the parts arent up to the job on road let alone off it. Have landrover built a bone with the L322?
  6. I think it is a peugeot colour- will try to get a match over the next few days and let you know
  7. After swapping my 200 TDi 90 for my new rangie, i have finally dealt with the mechanical issues that were doing my nut. New fuel tank, fuel pump, water pump, towbar and all sorts of fueling problems- it is now done. Goes like stink and sounds really good. Is a 3.9 manual running on twin strombergs. More frugal than my old 3.5efi auto too. Hope to get the axle breathers done over the next couple of weeks GW
  8. pics of fuel tank- holes were hidden behind the crossmember!
  9. Having found and fitted my wierd V8 waterpump (thank you Dunsfold DLR) i filled the tank up and went for a drive and found that the fueltank was mostly a mix of rust, holes and leaking fuel. I thought the fuel consumption was a little excessive! Went to Keith Gott to get the new tank and finally fitted it. No more leaking tank and no more dissolving driveway!!! pics to follow.
  10. challenger 4x4 are superb for welding. 01252 325930 Near Aldershot
  11. http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=427 is the sort of pump i need. Is this a common one- why dont paddocks sell it?
  12. Is there more than one type of waterpump for the 3.9? mine is leaking and i need to change it pdq. Any suggestions for where to get it? island 4x4 list one type but paddocks have two. Chris
  13. wound out the smoke screw and it has cured it. Adjusted the tappets too- one was at 0.60! Must have been a combination of the overfuelling and not clearing the exhaust properly causing the problem. Have moved my fuelpump diaphragm 90 deg's too- makes a hell of a difference! Gw
  14. how do you replace the valve stem seals on this head? is there one of those techy diagrams to aid the process? gw
  15. My 200tdi is smoking. I have reduced the boost to 11psi at full welly and made a little difference. I have a sneaky suspicion that the head gasket is on the way out as it was using water. I used some holts wonderweld which has stopped this. My suspicion is that where the oil goes through the gasket into the head, it has perished and is putting oil directly into a piston. The fact that this is intermittent only makes me more convinced of this. I have changed the Injectors to good ones as a precaution and has made little difference. My turbo however does have some oil around its compression vanes- is this normal? and could this be causing the problem? The other odd thing i notice about this engine is that sometimes when it isn't smoking, i get into traffic, it idles for a while and when pulling off, it smokes like the red arrows display team. Does anyone else experience this? I am doing the timing belt tomorrow to make sure that the timing is correct and see if that makes a difference. Might have to whip the head off at a later date and see if it is buggered. What are the usual signs of a head going on a TDi??
  16. where can you fir it to read manifold pressure? and is it much different than mounting it as pictured above?
  17. anyone have a good guide how to set a Zenith up? which is the mixture screw and which is idle screw? never done these before!!
